Hey Kajun. Yeah, I saw all that snow down south. Crazy weather. It got down to zero the night I shot that first segment of this video. I think that's the day you were getting all the snow too. I saw Mike Barry and Randy McCaffery posted videos/pictures with their snow. One of them said it hadn't snowed since 2008.

Hi Tracy. I think it will be one of my go to molds. Everyone likes tapered candles. I doubt I will sell many, I don't have a lot of wax for candles. It's more of a just for fun thing for me, and I will probably give them as gifts. Thanks for watching.

Yeah, usually the receivers of candles at Christmas are very happy. I made some scented ones 2 years ago into glass containers with nice lids. If you can find someone that has some of those empty Yankee Candle glasses, those are awesome. Good luck!

MannLake and BetterBee have candle wicking needles that make wicking tapers a lot easier. I think the wicks absorb some of the poured wax so it pays to top them up after a few minutes to avoid weird bottoms. Never had candles crack like that.. wonder if it had to do with the tightness of the wicks?
@JeromeBeeFarm
@JeromeBeeFarm 11 күн бұрын
Hey Nancy. Yeah, I should have topped them off a second time. It was too cold out there for me though. LOL I think those ones that broke was from gas bubbles. I could hear it bubbling up the tube as I poured the wax. I'm wondering if it was from the mold release boiling. My wax may have been on the hot side. Thanks for the tips.

The candle that had the void around the wick before you pulled it from the mold, was it one of the ones that was separated near the base after removed from mold?
@JeromeBeeFarm
@JeromeBeeFarm 11 күн бұрын
I'm not sure. I think my wax was on the hot side and made the mold release boil and outgas some. The bottom cooled before all the bubbles got out on those two and made that void. That's my theory anyway. Maybe poking a tiny breather hole next time and then top it off twice. Thanks for watching.

Hello from Oklahoma just had a thought watching you prepare your molds. You said the hardest thing is to keep your wicks, straight tie the poor end to a toothpick across the hole on the bottom end tie a nut washer something heavy that will pull the string tight.
@JeromeBeeFarm
@JeromeBeeFarm 10 күн бұрын
Good to hear from locals! What part of the state are you in? The tiny holes on the bottom are small enough that they hold the wick tight. I tied the pour end to a straight piece of 12 Gauge copper wire. Thanks for watching.
@cliffordmontgomery2830
@cliffordmontgomery2830 11 күн бұрын
Jerome try using 2 bobbie pins to hold the ends of your wicks. You dont have to tie them then and you can cut them close, not wasting any wick. Just cross them to center your wick.

I have a 10" mold but it only does one candle at a time. I use bent paper clips as my wicking needle so they are long enough to pull out the top of the mold. I have the same cavities forming and it's been frustrating me. I read that warming the mold up helps the wax cool evenly (you could probably do this easily with your heat gun before you pour.) I use a hair dryer (you could use your heat gun) to keep the top edge of the wax as a liquid so the bubbles get out before it fully dries. You can try topping it off but the bottom sort of makes noticeable rings if you wait too long and I think it may weaken the candle as we've also had some crack at the bottom. Using the heat gun to level the bottom while it's in the mold has yielded the best results so far. I'm still testing and tweaking to get them to look right though. I also use parchment paper over our counters because if wax hits it you can get it off and just toss it back in your wax melter. Thanks for sharing!
@JeromeBeeFarm
@JeromeBeeFarm 10 күн бұрын
Hi Brian, that's what I suspected is that bubbles caused that. I bet the heat gun and some tapping on the mold will get them to rise out of there, and then top it off while it's still liquid. Thanks for the tips.
