Hi Clay, yeah, it was a freakishly nice day. I didn't intend to make a video, it just happened to all work out, except for my mic. New one should be here today. Thanks for watching!

Hi Darren from southern New Zealand 👋😃 yeah love that fondant from hive alive, interesting solution to the corner problem with that plastic tool. I cut the corners off and add it to liquid feed😂 but i love the way that tool gets through the plastic👍 might try a few i think.oh lol, i have a matching blue queen to your red queen, marking my new queens i thought she was dry enough to go back in the hive but nope and a worker walked paint across her😅👋

Last year I was cutting one of those corners off with a box knife and got a little wild and sliced open the bellows on my smoker! LOL That fondant tool works great. I was surprised how easy it sliced through the plastic.

It was great that you didn't run across any deadouts, Some of those hives looked nice and strong. Maybe 2025 will be another bumper crop.

Hey Russell. Yeah, things are looking pretty good so far. See how it goes in the next 30 days. I bet I'll put all that fondant out, and then on to Pollen Patties to get that brood going. Thanks for watching.

Hey Darren. I uncovered a half of a Hive Alive fondant patty and placed it in one of the old style Apimaye feeders set to solid feed on 4 hives. Went back after about 2 weeks and they had hardly touched it. Don’t know if they didn’t need it or were in cluster and didn’t find it. At any rate, I removed it and placed it in the new style feeder. It as you know will accommodate a half patty. I did find that cutting the very ends off the package allows it to fit better so the plastic cover can seat better. Russ from Cross Plains.

Hey Russ. That's interesting. I've seen where they will go to that fondant before their own honey. I bet they didn't know it was there, or it was too cold to go up that high away from the cluster. I knew it was going to get pretty cold, so I wanted it right above them. I sure like the new ten frame apimaye feeders. I have 4 or 5 of them now.

@@JeromeBeeFarmI think you are correct about it being too cold for them to break cluster and get it. I will try to update how well those new feeders work in the future.

Hi Darren, I don't know what you think about this but I learned from another beekeeper that the inner cover notch should be up during the summer months and down during the winter months. The thinking is that it changes the ventilation through the hive in the summer and in the winter the ventilation is more along the wall, then out of the hive. Just thought I'd share.

Hey Texanfirst. I've heard both ways. In many things in beekeeping, it's probably fine either way. I've always leaned to the up way, that way there's not a direct path into the box area to defend. I suppose if they didn't like it (down), they would just propolize it shut. lol Thanks for watching and stay warm in this cold blast!

how old is tha apimay double nuke bottom? Looks like the UV is really getting to it. That is my concern with these plastic hives , modern plastics suck.
@JeromeBeeFarm
@JeromeBeeFarm 13 күн бұрын
It's 2 years old. I think what you see is a dried film that probably came from the snow. They are made of HPDE with UV protective additives.
