Yea hahahah. I'm from Bremen and i find It hilarious.

@@nicc9759:D Considering that Matthias Claudius was born in Holstein and died in Hamburg, Bremen is not really the farest place you could possibly think of, even back in those days.

It seems that Beethoven was not a bad-tempered man all along.

Am I an idiot, when I think that beethoven wasn't very good at vocal writing? I mean obviously everything instrumental by him is unbelievably awesome, I love the symphonies and piano concertos and sonatas, but this...

Well I have listened to some of Schubert's and Brahms's lieder and they are quite resemblant. It's the whole genre of lieder that is not particularly appealing, I think. Schubert, for example, wrote around four hundred lieder but pretty much three of them are remembered: Erlkönig, Ständchen and Ave Maria. The rest of his songs, in my opinion, sound very similar to one another, and to Beethoven's and Brahms's for that matter.

@@jakubedwardschiffauermedraj yeah i guess that's true, but i'm also thinking of fidelio and the masses, some of the pieces in there are undoubtetly very impressive and also very moving - prisoner's choir, the finale of the second act etc. - but other parts are just boring, and i feel like you can tell that an aria is supposed to be melancholic, or passionate, or whatever, but it's just not doing that. I'm always a little surprised by that, given that beethoven was so good and innovative at expressing emotion in instrumental pieces

Schumann is the real man of lieder. It shows his genius.

@@jakubedwardschiffauermedraj Don't forget Ave Maria! Not as famous, but Du Liebst Mich Nicht, Auf Wasser Zu Singen, Du bist der Ruh, Der Doppelganger - I may have mislabeled some of these but Schubert wrote incredible lieder.
