great performance! also, thank you for not ignoring the haunting 1st and dreamy 2nd movement. a lot of the youtube pianists only play the popular movements from beethoven sonatas and wrongly push the other great less known movements away. hoping you play the waldstein sonata soon.

🤩 Merci beaucoup!!! J’avais envie de faire toute la sonate (comme avec le Hammerklavier) - j’ai trouvé ça dommage de faire les mouvements séparés dans ces œuvres. Bien vu pour la note en plus - en fait, quand j’avais appris cette sonate c’était avec une édition un peu spécial (Craxton/Tovey je crois) et cette note est répétée - sûrement une erreur - mais j’aime beaucoup et décidé de la garder! Merci encore!

I learned the sonata about a year and a half ago and played the last movement for solo and ensemble. To this day it remains my absolute favorite sonata! Thanks for uploading a performance of the whole thing! Really well played too!

A legendary rendition, however I think Gilels' tempo for Movement one is the best tempo for mvt.1 just my opinion

Thank you!! I agree with you about Gilel’s version - I used to listen to it a lot and it has to be my all round favourite recording of the Appassionata (and probably the Hammerklavier too). But maybe only Gilels could carry off so well the 1st movement at this tempo. I think I normally play this movement a bit slower though, and probably got a bit carried away (or got influenced by Pollini 🤔)

Well played! I'm also learning this piece! Your interpretation of the appassionata is similar to how I interpret it, which was a pleasant surprise. Subbed bc you play the entire sonata and not just one movement. Can you play the waldstein too?

Thanks!! I’d love to do the Liszt sonata and Islamey, but I’ve got some other pieces I’d like to do first - trying to concentrate on pieces that haven’t been done in this format yet (or not in their complete format), and Traum has already done brilliant versions of these two…

I’d already played this piece then just worked it up again before recording - learning the whole Appassionata in 2 weeks would be a serious challenge.
