I don't really like that the orchestra isn't more involved. I would go like full on Pathetique orchestration and have the orchestra convey everything the piano can and more. That is, if I was to orchestrate this sonata, which I probably wouldn't. I would probably keep it at Quartet and leave Piano -> Orchestra expansion for the likes of the Pathetique and Appassionata Sonatas.

Congratulations not only to an excellent pianist, but to a master arranger! Others have tried to do orchestral arrangements of this piece for years - but this one captures both the original composer's essence and the orchestra's diversity of tone colors and articulations WITHOUT overshadowing or in any way overdoing sentimentality. Beethoven himself would have congratulated you on your exquisite taste and on its wise application to the infinitely diverse possibilities of musical interpretation!

I like how the piano is even in front of the conductor, as it highlights how central to the piece it is - the conductor follows the pianist, and the rest of the orchestra follows him. Beautiful
@ShaunakDesaiPiano2 жыл бұрын
For most works consisting of piano and orchestra, those often known as piano concertos, the piano is always in front of the conductor. But importantly, the soloist in a concerto (violin, clarinet, flute, whichever) is always positioned next to the conductor instead of directly in front of them, so the pair can easily communicate during the performance. In the case of the pianist, this results in the piano being in front of the conductor.

Imagine being the pianist at this moment, the pressure to play perfectly, knowing that if you fumble, the entire rest of the orchestra will follow suit, the expectation to play with milimeter accuracy, especially during the third movement, is definitely enough to crush the piano itself. The weight of the Orchestra is entirely on the pianists shoulders
