Camera people- Nobody really gives a fig about the string pizzicatos. Even the ever -present clarinet. This is the biggest 4th horn solo in the universe, show some respect! Beautiful job, by the way!

Nod of approval on that low Bb from the cellist at 0:50
@gnypp454 жыл бұрын
😂 It certianly looks so! Or... is it just a cellist that leads his section by marking the silent start of the pizz triplets?

Lovely rubato on that ascending scale in the horn solo.👏👏

Beethoven is an extraordinary composer. He is strictly classical, I suppose, but more romantic than even the greatest romantics.

Am i the only one that can tell the difference between all the instruments and can instantly recognize the noise of a french horn because if that unique soft trumpet tone that is absolutely beautiful

obviously not. that's the whole point of having different instruments.

No you're not the only one. I can guarantee you that every person who arranges or writes music can tell not only the sound of each instrument, but of each instrument in each of their ranges, plus combinations of instruments. telling the instruments apart is kind of like learning the alphabet. Putting things together is like writing a novel. And a Horn and trumpet are about as different as a triangle and a viola 🙂

How to play the low Bb on the F-horn? Lipping down or is the horn tuned in Eb?
@AFGalopp9 жыл бұрын
Even if he's using a Eb crook (and he's not, as we can notice from the fingering), it has to be played as a pedal note. So yes, he must soften down the lips!
@KarlBonner19826 жыл бұрын
It's a wolf tone, halfway between the fundamental (pedal) and the second partial.
@aidanchristensen15814 жыл бұрын
@@AFGalopp Actually, using an Eb crook, that low Bb could be played as 1-3.

Why play the solo the 4Th horn? It must play the 1st horn no?
@zacdavid99198 жыл бұрын
+Daniel Sánchez :3 It is a low horn solo. Historically, and at the time the symphony was written, horns 1 and 3 were high horn specialists and horns 2 and 4 were low horn specialists. This being a solo set particularly low in the range, it was given to the fourth horn. Beethoven may also have very well known the particular player who was on fourth horn and written the solo to be played by him. Today, the solo is often played by the first horn anyway-- who is otherwise resting-- but it depends on the conductor and regardless, is written into the fourth horn part. It does appear that the first horn is playing the solo in this case.

+Zac David Ow, thank you so much.
@zacdavid99198 жыл бұрын
You got it!
@pope03318 жыл бұрын
@pope03318 жыл бұрын
Sorry but that is NOT the real reason why the 4th horn carries the solo. Historically, the 3rd Mov. required natural (valveless) I and II horns in Bb whilst the III and IV horns were in Eb. The passage happens to be in the key of Eb major and so the horns in Bb where unable to play it since they did not have the notes that the Eb horn can play (and viceversa). You are only correct by indicating that in present times this passage is played preferably by the 1st horn since it has now valves and therefore can play any notes. Conductors here usually let the principal horn decide to play the solo or to even allow the 4th horn to play it provided that they are using the Wilhelm Furtwängler modern edition and not the original by Beethoven.

Come on someone have the conductor take a look at Sara Willis playing this and have him embody that please.
