In his hands the Tempest becomes a Reality, you can feel it, you can see it, you can touch it, you can see everything in details - every change of the Tempest movement, you can even imagine the color of the Tempest. Indeed, it's a Masterpiece! Thank you Wilhelm Kempff!

I listened to Kempff's recitals in Tokyo in 1976, in one of which he played Tempest. That performance was the most impressive one in my life. This recording, I'm certain, is the one in which he is in a trance condition. In such an occasion, God spoke behind him. But this can be sensed only in the performance on the stage. I would like to know people all over the world that Kempff was the most popular pianist in Japan in 1950s, 1960s and 1970s. He visited Japan altogether 10 times. Most of the listeners in Japan loved Kempff and call him "Kempu san" with affection.

Hey newcomers. Ive been watching this performance for at least six years now. Other videos were around. Earlier I was addicted to one of these other videos of that very performance with over 1 million views and with loads of interesting comments. Scrolling down the comments was just as interesting as listening to Kempff, I must admit. From what I know, that concert took place in Paris in 1968 or 1969. KZbin deleted that video like 1 year ago for undisclosed reasons. I remember top comment, someone, don't remember his / her username, wrote : 》》Wilhelm understood Ludwig《《 It collected at least 500 likes, maybe more. Also, many users in comments praised that beautiful male/female at 1:40. I personally love how he/she blinks with her/his watery eyes at 1:44. She / he is in awe of master Kempff, of this masterful playing. Someone wrote 》marry me《, someone wrote ( I remember that quite sharply) "being that beautiful should be forbidden". Ok, end of the story of a certain forgotten video.Damn, I wish to have that video back... I suppose that's very 21thcenturish, nostalgia after webcontent and Im more from 20th century, but .. but I cant help it. ...written on January 2018.

Kempff was a brilliant pianist. One of the things I always like about his style was the relatively minor characteristic that he hardly ever seemed to move his body. There was almost an economy of motion to his fantastic playing, never over dramatic like many others, just to the point and exactly what was necessary. I have modeled my own efforts after this man's performance style.

Listened to Schiff playing this recently, which was awesome but I still came back to this video. Kempff held the tempo tighter which created a feeling of ethereal force forward. Schiff, in comparison, used a little bit too much rubato and occasionally felt stressed technically.

Wilhelm Kempff is the best pianist of the 20th century. A spiritual student of Franz Listz, his impeccable technique and innate virtuosity, uniting the technique of the organ and the piano, make him the undisputed master of music. Curiously, he was born in 1895, the same year that Carl Orff and Paul Hindelmich came into the world.
