The first live classical concert I ever went to was Roger Woodward playing this at the Sydney Opera House in about 1976. I still remember that wonderful transition to the rondo - it brought tears to my eyes (admittedly helped by being with my date who was a student pianist I was madly in love with). That didn't happen again until I listened to this (about 15'50"). What a fabulous performance.

Back in the 70's i went out and bought a load of Beethoven. My first excursion into clasical. It went in one.ear and out the other. I left the Waldstein on repeat on the turntable and laid down and fell asleep. Somehow the last bars of the grave section woke me up and the arpegios at the beginning of the final movement gave me goosebumps. I have been a Classical fan ever since. Thank God for Beethoven, Vladimer Ashkenasy, And, the then, modern day technology.

Dear Valentina-- There is so much recorded music in our age of internet and we take a lot of it for granted. Sometimes it just fades into the background. But your piano pieces always cuts the pieces of the backdrop and gives me goosebumps. There is just something about how you interpret the music that speaks to me. Val .. You played the Octaves passage ( right and left hands) in the finale of the third movement incredibly simply( as it is written, piano legato and swiftly, which represents extreme difficulty to all pianists), in fact I've never seen it played like that before (all great pianists had played it Glissando octaves),, you're unique and matchless my lady,, God bless you. and keep you sound for us ever.

Possibly the best thing she has uploaded and that is saying a lot as all of her playing is superlative. But this is beyond. Completely mature brilliant interpretation. Fire Beethoven would have been proud of when it is called for and perfect tender lyricism to balance it out. And such clarity. No hiding with the pedal here. Just pure unadulterated incredible technique. I can tell she must have a special affinity for this piece. And also may I say her choice of clothing is refreshing. Suits the piece in a classy way. Sometimes I wonder these days what some females pianists (no names mentioned) want to you pay attention too!

That was absolutely marvelous! Valentina, your interpretation and skill have completely swayed me. This was the most compelling performance of the Waldstein I’ve ever heard. The sheer clarity and range in contrast you achieve through your technique and virtuosity deserves the greatest commendation. Thank you for being here on KZbin, and for allowing me to imagine Beethoven himself performing his piece, but realizing that even he may not have been as good on the piano as you are, he just relied on his ability to hear it in his mind. Although it’s hard to say for sure, as he was renowned for his ability to play and improvise. I digress. Much respect and admiration, - Cole
