Thank you for the tempo of the final movement! This is Beethoven’s (I believe) only programatic piano sonata, depicting the aching pain of one’s departure and then the ecstatic flood of joy accompanying their return. So many pianists play the last movement as to depict someone planting flowers. IMO, this interpretation is closer to the bold emotions that the piece aims go depict.

...yes, the emotions.- But to this tempo he sacrifies some notes, which he are not able to play. he let them away. anyhow - it is some extreme experiance ny listening to this performance.

When negotiating one of the most difficult Sonatas of the great Beethoven, we cannot but find that middle ground which allows our abilities to illuminate the music in a sensible and effective way. Any other way, would lead to a 'show' that doesn't really show the point!

@@cbdpianist He is a great pianist. But it was not a pifie, but several. And the interpretation of some silences is exaggerated; it's not natural. "Truth is the only reality." Arthur Rubinstein was the best interpreter of this work.

I agree with some of the criticism. Is there another performance on KZbin? This is the only one I've seen. Thanks.

There is a lack of inner peace, hence the mistakes. Technique also includes security. The final sequence with the broken octaves is simplified by unbroken octaves ... in contrast to Yulianna Avdeeva and Boris Giltburg, he will be forgotten in a few years.

Beethoven by Giltburg is certainly unpeaceful. Mr Levit is showing through sound and articulation another kind of performance. Sorry you cannot appreciate. Besides, the Sonata was written to be played and to be listened to. So, the pianist can choose fingering if it does not affect the music.

What a nonsense. I like Giltburg but Levit's Beethoven is definitely more thoughtful and characteristic.

Dull compared to Levit. Super dull. I've seen him in performance a few times and nearly fell asleep.
