This performance is notable because they give all parts equal recognition, instead of trying to make the first violin dominate the whole quartet

The first movement you hear a few times and then it is never forgotten.When ever i come back to this it's amazing how every phrase seems to only be possible as it is.Isaac stern once said of Mendellsohn violin concerto that it ws perfect and every note followed the previous one and couldn't be any other than it is . I feel the same could be saif about this music .Must find the score

The cellist is the best :) I like how the first momvement goes between all HEctic and dramatic and then back to sweet and light, like it gives you a rest every so often :)

Can't stand it when some say they're sick of Beethoven! There's always something new to discover from the great man - paticularly from such a committed performance as this! Many Thanks.
@LakhnBer7 жыл бұрын
If you're sick of Beethoven, then you haven't been listening. But some of his works are broadcast so often that one stops really hearing them. (I live near Boston, so: Please, WCRB, don't play the warhorses more than once each every six months! Don't let great music to turn into wallpaper.) But I can't remember hearing this quartet any time recently, so it's a treat.

i thought he was pretty lame at first but hearing his earlier stuff i think he's pretty good. His baroque elements in the second movement are pretty unique especially since it was made in the transitional period to the romantic era. So its good.

Brilliant playing, with subtle nuances, fully dramatic range of dynamics. The recording is outstandingly good; and the filming sufficiently varied as to be neither too static nor too erratic. The visual spectacle enhances the drama of the music.
@pimogens2223 жыл бұрын
I disagree about the filming. I prefer a fixed camera so I can see the interaction, that is where the drama is. Beethoven and four gifted musicians, should that not be enough; the camera (wo)man has no part in the show. Each time one player is focused the others are out of view. And displaying the sheet music (where the notes they are playing are hidden) is just dull.

This performance is remarkable for the marvelous way all the four players are interacting. This quartet will easily become a show piece for the first violinist, which was clearly not the composer's intention. But there are so many ways to perform a musical masterpiece, and they may all be acceptable and enjoyable.

Dear Shi; musicians are not meant to be looked at and being judged by their looks; they are there to play and be listened to, and these are marvelous interpreters of Beethoven.
