The orchestration for Eroica is only this; 3 horns, two trumpets, two flutes, two oboes, two clarinets, two bassoons, timpani and strings.

Using flute a bit out of tempo in attempt to make it more romantic or joyful, didn't work i think and the horns are unnecessarily piano, to me of course;) Other than that this was a good interpretation.

Too much short phrase. I like 70-80 grand big orchstra. 4trumbe 6 horn 10kontrabaß Espacially. 1982 100 jahre konzerte Berliner philharmoniker with karajan. Its Long phrase and heavy sounds. Thats too much small members....

Only an ordinary performance without any special interpretation from the conductor! Berlin phil should be able to make much better music than this!! Compare this with the great performance of the same piece conducted by Karajan in 1980s.

@@thaliarice3891 I see your point and respect it. Bur for me Rattle is not a conductor that generally fits my preference although I have a high opinion about his Beethoven. I'd rather prefer late romantic-style interpretations and orchestral sound that Karajan, Wand and Celibidache pursued. (Brass sound forms the main frame of the entire orchestral sound and especially trumpets play very important roles like the pinnacle of the gothic cathedral.) Among younger generations, I have high expectation on Kirill Petrenko and Andris Nelsons for this reason. Anyway thanks for your opinion!
