Dvořák is such an underrated composer. I've only listened to a few works by him (this and the american string quartet) but I love his characteristic sound so much.

È la prima sinfonia che ho udito: avevo 21 anni ed ora ne ho 74 eppure la commozione è sempre quella. Peccato che all'autore non sia stato dato allora il successo che meritava, ma il tempo (ed il pubblico) è galantuomo per cui la Sinfonia continua a descrivere ed interpretare l'anima piu vera degli Stati Uniti. Grazie a chi continua a regalarci tesori come questo.

Karajan gets immersed in the music but still remains more or less controlled. You can see he's into it, but he's "dignified" about it. Dudamel got me worried at first because I thought he was having a seizure

by the 1960s cinematic cameras were capable of capturing decent footage, as long as you had the money to pay for it. Panavision 70 was capturing full colour with even higher resolution in the same era.

Since my early youth, this is one of my favourites. What is better than Karajan and the Berliner Philharmoniker. I met Karajan at his house in the Salzburg area and frequently at my work at Basel, Switzerland. Nevertheless, I could tell the reader some episodes as well.

It is 1/2 step higher than the natural key, due to an old recording proclivity. And thus faster.

2:13 to 2:48 is some of the most beautiful music ever composed IMHO. As Beethoven said, ''music should strike fire from the heart of a man, and bring tears to the eyes of a woman''. I think this accomplishes that beautifully.

The composition was not written as a celebration of the kingdom, but as a reaction to the turbulent world and mainly as a longing for home (Czechoslovakia). The composer Dvořák was not paid for the composition (he received a bad check):-(
