I have always called Beethoven's 4th symphony the "forgotten symphony" because it is not performed nearly as much as his other symphonies. I have watched a video of Barenboim and the West East Divan orchestra perform this symphony at the BBC Proms several times and thought that it was the best performance. However, this performance was even better. The orchestra as a whole was tight. They knew each other so well that they outdid much smaller chamber groups. I definitely love the way Barenboim conducts the second movement. Where most conductors do it fast and jumpy, Barenboim takes his time and makes it flow like a river.
