J'ai beau chercher, je crois que dans toute l'histoire du disque, personne, aucun chef, aucun orchestre n'a jamais entonné, chanté le thème final de "l'Hymne à la Joie" avec une telle perfection. Perfection sonore, densité de couleurs, articulation idéale, phrasé, dynamique soutenue des graves.... Un idéal, un paradis perdu.

Der ebenso unvergleichliche Maestro dirigiert das weltklassige Orchester in inspirierenden Tempo und mit perfekt kontrollierter Dynamik. Die verbesserte Tonqualität ist auch erstaunlich hoch als eine originale Aufnahme von vierundsibzig Jahren vor. Wunderbar und tiefempfunden zugleich!

It's so powerful that you can push it up from the bottom of your stomach. I often listen to the 9th because of the relationship, but the thoughts hidden inside seemed to be powerful and released to the outside, and I was thrilled and enjoyed it very much. Thank you for posting.

As one who grew up on Karajan's 1977 Ninth, and who still argues that it's 'the greatest' recording, this 1947 remastered reading must now even surpass K.'s 1984 digital effort in sound quality terms, while also being a far greater performance - with us also getting the two Lizzies, Kath Ferrier's partner in the famed Bruno Walter 'Das Lied' recording, Patzak, and 'Wotan' as the bass! Une version extraordinaire, il n’est pas lieu d’en douter. Seulement j’ai du mal avec la classification d’enregistrement du siècle. C’est ainsi renier pour moi toutes les versions aussi singulières les unes que les autres qu’à pu nous léguer Wilhelm Furtwangler - à commencer par celles de 1942, sans parler de 1951, 1953 ou 1954 -, en premier lieu, ainsi que les formidables gravures de Fricsay, Abendroth, Leibowitz, Schuricht ou Schmidt-Isserstedt, des versions qui n’ont rien, absolument rien, à envier à Karajan sur la maîtrise d’une des œuvres majeures du grand répertoire, la sûreté d’une conception artistique innovante. C’est beaucoup donner à Karajan que de le qualifier ainsi, car c’est non seulement discutable sur le plan concurrentiel - combien de grands chefs ont su aborder cette œuvre avec une oreille nouvelle et une musicalité extraordinaire - mais également sur le plan conceptuel et artistique que cette interprétation se discute. Un « enregistrement du siècle » - comme vous dites - se doit de pouvoir s’enorgueillir d’une évidence unique, mais Karajan pioche à plusieurs reprises durant le premier mouvement, est un poil sucré dans le dernier - je ne vois pas pourquoi l’on ferait ce reproche à Stokowski sans l’adresser à Karajan. Si le casting est indéniablement l’un des tous meilleurs de tous les temps, si la direction contient des fulgurances uniques, et même si l’ensemble tient d’un compact et solide bloc cohérent, je pense tout de même que c’est ici sur-évaluer cette interprétation historique.

Chers amis, pour la neuvième, il n’existe pas un seul enregistrement du siècle, c’est à dire, un seul enregistrement avec une note maximale, fort heureusement, et certaines des versions que vous citez sont également des enregistrements du siècle. Celle de 51 par Furt, que nous avons publié il a maintenant quelques années est sans doute la plus grande des grandes. Mengelberg nous a également épaté dans un enregistrement plus rare que le cycle de 40 et que nous comptons publier prochainement. Karajan à réalisé un exploit en 47 qu’il ne reproduira plus par la suite et cette version est légendaire au même titre que Furt 42 et 51.

Je partage dans ses grandes lignes les critiques que vous faites de cette interprétation de Karajan et de sa classification. Toutefois, ce qui m’interpelle dans votre commentaire où vous citez quantité de chefs, c’est qu’à aucun moment il n’est question de Toscanini. Je crois avoir compris l’admiration sans bornes que vous avez pour “...wängler”, dont personne ne s’aventure à contester l’immense talent, mais je ne me souviens pas avoir souvent trouvé mention de Toscanini dans vos “uploads”. Pour l’inconditionnel que je suis (depuis mes 17 ans) de cet extraordinaire chef d’orchestre qui m’a fait découvrir à travers ses interprétations volcaniques les symphonies de Beethoven (comme personne avant lui… et très très peu après lui), cette absence est douloureuse, même si elle peut s’expliquer par des tempéraments différents ou des conceptions de Beethoven divergentes. Quoi qu’il en soit et pour illustrer l’admiration que j’ai de mon côté pour Toscanini, je me permets de vous recommander l’interprétation, unique, phénoménale pour ne pas dire géniale, qu’il a donnée de la 9e à Buenos Aires en 1941. Je ne chercherai pas à choisir entre tel ou tel chef, je me contenterai de dire mon émotion, le rappel de ce qu’elle fut dans ma jeunesse et d’ajouter qu’elle est dans cet enregistrement de 1941à son sommet. @@alombredeslava2468 J’ai mis du temps à apprécier Toscanini, mais je dois reconnaître que je suis immensément admiratif de sa capacité à insuffler une extraordinaire énergie dans ses interprétations. Mais ce n’est pas dans Beethoven que j’aime le plus Toscanini, je le préfère dans Schumann ( la 2e ! ), Brahms, Rossini évidemment, ou encore les classiques ( la 88e de Haydn et la 41e de Mozart ), et bien d’autres choses bien évidemment :). La seule et unique raison pour laquelle je ne publie pas d’enregistrements de Toscanini est la gestion des droits par Sony, cela pourrait m’attirer des bricoles…

Karajan's best-ever, and one of the greatest-ever, Beethoven 9ths, the others in its class being Cluytens, Swarowsky, Konwitschny, and Neumann. If I had to choose only one of those, it would be Swarowsky. That's because everything in the symphony is up to that high level, even the third movement, which no other conductor even came close to matching him on.

El problema de Herbert von Karajan, es que no sabe extasiarse lo suficiente ni profundizar en los movimientos lentos de las sinfonías . Por ejemplo la Novena de Beethoven, el "Adagio molto e cantabile" apenas le dura 15 minutos, en cambio en otras interpretaciones de otros grandes directores alcanza los 20 minutos, me refiero a Furtwängler, Bernstein, Solti y algunos más que no recuerdo ahora...y aunque a alguien le pueda parecer un dato sin demasiada importancia, no es así, este Adagio sublime de la Novena hay que recrearlo lo máximo posible para sacarle todo la profundidad y emotividad que contiene, y el gran Furtwängler lo entendió perfectamente y otros que ya he mencionado... Lo mismo le pasa con la "Pastoral" que se la ventila en 35 minutos, cuando las grandes versiones duran 45 e incluso 50 y más.... Es lo único que, en mi opinión, se le puede reprochar al gran director salzburgés...que por otra parte es uno de los grandes del siglo XX. Me gustaría saber vuestras opiniones en este sentido y si estáis de acuerdo o no. Un abrazo desde España.
