I loved the second movement. It reminds me of why I fell in love with Beethoven as a child, why I studied German at University. A lifelong passion for a culture which is so often misunderstood. I listened to the second movement with tears. Oistrakh plays this with understated reverence. Sophie Mutter reveals the passion of the romantic German soul. I would like to hear a recording by Menuhin if there is one.

I'm mesmerized. She's memorized these Sonatas. She plays flawlessly. She plays without a shoulder rest for crying outloud! She brings a freshness in interpretation. How does she do all that, and still find time to maintain that killer athletic body?

It depends on how long your neck is. Short necks don’t need it as much. I was fine playing without it when I was a kid but as grew as needed it.

Trista soarta, sa fie atins la un organ care este indispensabil unui muzician.Era prezent la concertele cu magnifica lui muzica dar el nu auzea nimic, muzica ii suna doar in cap. Mutter is a living Legend. When I want to really discover the emotional depth and meaning to a piece, I search for Mutter's version. Never fails. Her interpretations are at a different level.

@@tonyqunta32 You can listen to Oistrakh's old Philips recording. That's how I would play it. If you can't sense how ridiculous her rubatos are, I can't help you. Get a new pair of ears or get a new hobby.
