The Three Piano Sonatas, WoO 47, were composed by Ludwig van Beethoven in 1782 and 1783, when he was eleven and twelve years old. The sonatas show a certain level of precocity and has a precursor to the masterworks he later produced. They are dedicated to the Prince elector Maximilian Frederick and therefore also known as the "Kurfürstensonaten".
Like Mozart, Beethoven's musical talent was recognized at a young age, and these three sonatas give an early glimpse of the composer's abilities, as well as his boldness. Beethoven was writing in a form usually attempted by older, more mature composers, as the sonata was a cornerstone of Classical piano literature. Since they were written at such an early age (and Beethoven himself did not assign them opus numbers), the works have historically been omitted from the canon of Beethoven's piano sonatas. However, Barry Cooper included the trio in his critical edition of the sonatas created for ABRSM, arguing that "A complete edition has to be complete, and if you ignore early works, you don't show the longer trajectory of the composer's development."The inclusion of these three works raises Beethoven's total number of piano sonatas from 32 to 35.

It actually is indeed very similar to the Pathétique; It has a slow introuction, a fast part, the slow part again, then the quick part to the end, the same as the Pathétique 1st movement!

Mozart was completely stunned by the piano playing of the young teenage Beethoven.

interestingly this reminds me a lot of the pianistic virtuoso style from scarlattis time? especially the last movement. hearing this on a Hammerklavier is a treat! thank you for posting :)

As a young composer he was stunning but not a Genius like Mozart. He grew slowly and.....at the end, completely deaf composed op 111, op 135 the ninth Symphony!!!! This is amazing!!!!

12 year old Beethoven and 28 year old Mozart before him both foreshadowing Pathetique in minor key sonatas(I'd say that the Mozart is closer overall, but the Beethoven is closer in the first movement specifically), that's interesting. Among the similarities between the Mozart C minor and the Beethoven Pathetique are: Mannheim Rocket at the start of the Mozart kind of resembles the staccato figure in Pathetique second theme Similar Alberti Bass like texture beneath melody and then that C, Bb, Eb figure that starts Pathetique Second Movement Dominant Preparation of Mozart second movement resembles the Dominant Preparation in Pathetique Third Movement in texture Slight resemblance between third movement openings There's a spot in the Mozart third movement that resembles Pathetique First Movement melodically in the bass and Pathetique Third Movement retransition harmonically Both end in energetic C minor outbursts

1rst movement played too fast, IMO. You have to be able to hear the individual 16th notes. But that fact that the performer can do it at all is impressive.

It says allegro assai for a reason, it is a bit fast though

Why is the first movement played like Alla Breve Prestissimo? It's just Allegro assai, not even Vivace

I agree. The Allegro is much too fast.

Obviously whoever played this was like "This sonata is so similar to the Pathetique Sonata in terms of first movements that I should just use whatever tempo I'd use for Pathetique for this sonata." or something along those lines. Cause that's the tempo I hear in Pathetique, the same tempo the pianist played the F minor first movement in this recording.

See my main comment later (I agree. No sense playing the notes faster than the listener can hear them).
