vw beetle documentary: the shape of quality (2/3)

This australian vw beetle documentary is called: the shape of quality. This documentary focusses on the technical issues of beetle production in Australia in de early '60s.
That makes the documentary less interesting for the general public, butr even more for insiders: people who are 'into the beetle'.
For instance: it strikes me to see that during beetle production the window rubbers are put into place manually with a hammer, with the risk of damaging the fresh painted body. Also the use of a thread to push the rubber in place from the inside of the car is easy to see.
The film was directed by Fred Schepisi.

I'm sure you can still find some good Mexican VW Beetles. They were made up until 2003. Every improvement that could be done to the Beetle was done to those cars.

I REALLY LIKE THE 1967 GERMAN MADE BEETLES Australian made 1967 beetles were the same as the 1962 beetles... they were made all the same... I have a 1968 automatic beetle with 12 volts, disc brakes, two speed wipers and IRS rear suspension.. made in Germany.. The German made 67 beetles have a one year only outside door handle with a round push button.. different door glass, large windows plus many other modifications that came from the 1965-66 beetles.. I own a 1978 superbeetje convertible. My dream is a pre '67 model convertible, but prices are skyhigh! But it's a bit too much to say Yuck to a post '67 beetle. They still are beetles. Their shape is still beautiful!

3000 for a good beetle is ok!!! I drive a convertible now. Like you, I prefer a pre 67 beetle, but especially old convertible prices are skyhigh!

i dont understand why you would say yuck,the vw bug shape basicly stayed the same .except for bumpers,engine size,alternater instead of generator.maybe you are thinking of the super beetle which i would agree does not look as good.

Interesting to see that they painted the car with the fenders on. I thought they painted them separately and THEN put on the rubber in between the fenders.

They look like 67s, The tail lamps are to large to be 64s,and the bumpers are definitly pre 68. There you have it.

itersting I had a 1965 for YEAR SOME SAY THE61 to 66 I b elieve were the bestI feel it was one with a little more house power I misted i t even if my gripewas the gear shifting fri I have rather short arms the lever was sort of far back because o he rer enigne my next car a,64 volvo far better shiftng
