Fun fact: When Beetlejuice kicks the tree, it was not supposed to fall over according to the script. When Keaton says "nice f**king model", and honks himself, he was actually yelling at the prop department. Tim Burton liked it so much, he kept it in the final cut.
@fripp25422 ай бұрын
Supposedly, when the film was being screened, the person that was there to give the movie a rating fell asleep during the part when he said "Nice effing model" and that is why it is PG and not PG-13. This opened it up to a wider audience and more success.

Michael Keaton is the reason this is the black comedy you watched. He's only in it for fifteen minutes, but he asked Tim Burton for permission to play the role however he wanted. You see, this film was supposed to be more of a drama--but when Keaton played it as solely a comedy, he realized it was way better, and so changed it to the film you see here. So thank Michael Keaton for this amazing cult classic, because without him it wouldn't exist.

As others have pointed out, Keaton was in comedies early in his career and was known for Mr. Mom, Night Shift and Beetlejuice. When he was cast for Batman there was an uproar because people didn't think he could pull off an appropriately dramatic role. He has since had a few serious roles and now younger audiences can't believe he was so good in comedy. Lots of suggestions here for The Frighteners already. It's one of the best horror/comedy films, up there with Beetlejuice, Zombieland, and Tucker and Dale vs. Evil.

"Are you a ghost, too?" "I'm a ghost with the most, babe." Fun Fact: Michael Keaton, playing the title character, only appears in 14.5 minutes of the film. Music Enthusiast Fact: Tim Burton feared the Day-O (1956) by Harry Belafonte sequence wouldn't go over well, since in his opinion it wasn't very funny. He turned out to be wrong, audiences loved it and think of it as one of the film's most iconic scenes. Parapsychology Foreshadowing Fact: At the dinner party, Otho (Glenn Shadix) states that people who commit suicide end up as "civil servants" in the afterlife. This is actually expanded on in the film. The civil servant ghosts that Adam (Alec Baldwin) and Barbara (Geena Davis) meet are people who appear to have ended their own lives. The receptionist (Patrice Martinez) says she committed suicide, there is a man who hanged himself, and the crushed messenger (Carmen Filpi) is implied to have done it to himself. Juno (Sylvia Sidney) looks normal, but there are scars on her neck that indicate she cut her own throat. Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton) is said to have been a civil servant and Juno's assistant; it was going to be explained in the film that he hanged himself (incompetently and very painfully), due to heartbreak. While this was cut out of the film for running time purposes, it is hinted when Beetlejuice is surprised at Lydia (Winona Ryder) wishing to die.

Beetlejuice's short appearance in his own movie reminds me of all of the Godzilla movies. He's usually not in them for more than 20 minutes. The trick is to make those minutes really count. In Godzilla Minus One I thought he was onscreen for at least 30-40 minutes, but he's only in the movie for 12! Each of those minutes are *intense* though, much like when Beetlejuice is onscreen.

The 70s were known as a low-point in fashion particularly for men's clothing. Othos's reaction of horror is the joke because he considers himself a New York sophisticate. So for him to be caught in a Leisure Suit would literally be a terror of terrors for the elitist he is. The joke doesn't translate well with the passage of the decades. 36:19: "I had no idea he'd be so good at comedy." Michael Keaton was mostly known for comedies when he got the role of Batman, leading many to believe the movie would be like the unbearably campy Adam West TV show. So many were thinking "He's the *LAST* person you'd expect to be Batman!" Which was precisely the point, as Bruce Wayne is the last person you'd expect to be Batman. Now, it's said that between comedy and drama, comedy is harder, but few realized what kind of range Michael Keaton really had, and he really got to flex as Bruce Wayne and Batman. But this still remains probably his most famous comedy role, and he's barely in the movie at all.

I'm writing that my name is Josh and i've been reading online that Beetlejuice Beetljuice will have an official 4K HD digital release on Tuesday October 8, 2024. the digital release will also include special features including a second version of Beetlejuice Beetlejuice with an audio commentary by Tim Burton. this means that everybody at home can do first time watching videos for Beetlejuice Beetlejuice beginning on Tuesday October 8, 2024. i can really confirm that there won't be deleted or extended scenes to be included on the 4K Bluray and DVD release on Tuesday November 19, 2024. that might be the exact same day that Beetlejuice Beetlejuice becomes available to stream on MAX.

Danny Elfman was in a band called Oingo Boingo. You really need to check out his music from the '80s

Keaton can definitely do comedy - he used to do stand up comedy, back in the day. I remember seeing his showcase on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson.

I think these two would appreciate The Frighteners with Michael J Fox. I would like watching that reaction!

My kids were young when this came out on video (vhs then disc). We all loved it and they had to have the action figures, Halloween costumes, birthday decorations and of course watched the Beetlejuice cartoon when it came on Saturday mornings. Lydia’s character definitely inspired some Goth clique attire. To me, Charles Dietz was still Ferris Bueller’s Principal freshly retired and Delia was still Kevin’s Mom after she had a mental breakdown 😂 Familiar characters in a dark comedy was everything we wanted.

not sure if you were aware, but michael keaton was mainly known for comedy even at the point this came out. he got his start alongside henry winkler in a film called night shift (1982), then broke big the following year in mr mom and has continued to do a variety of roles including other comedies since. batman was his first major non comedy role. with how much you guys liked this you should definitly check out mr mom for a more dramatic comedy, and night shift for a great preformance from henry winkler and shelly long alongside micheal keaton. if you want to see one of the comedies he did later on you should check out multiplicity (1996), its really underrated👍. oh its also been awhile but i forgot to mention congratulations on the baby, im sure itll be just as cute and funny as you two

The cast in this film is fantastic. I'm really happy most of them are returning for the sequel.

33:28 Barbara is OP. She figures out HOMEHOMEHOME on her own and takes the sandworm and is the only person shown banishing Betelgeuse during the snake attack

Another gothic fairytale from Tim Burton thats worth a look is "Dark shadows". Its with Jhonny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, Michelle Pfeiffer, Chloe Grace Moretz and Christopher Lee. It has the same creepy/funny mix like Sleepy Hollow and, as usual, is a feast for the eyes. And with Wednesday Tv-series you get even more from the typical Tim Burton Creepshow. I hope you will watch it and have fun.

Deliciously dark and funny, smart, creative, with a brilliant cast - it's a wonderful film. I knew you'd love this, and loved your reaction to it. Thank you! It is very much of its time though, and very much Tim Burton doing what he did best - I'm not sure what the new film is going to do 36 years later. I'll eat my hat if it is in anyway decent. We'll see!
