Glad you had fun with this one, Ange! It's a classic from my childhood. The spelling of the main character's name is weird, but there's a reason behind it. "Betelguese" is the English name of a star in the constellation of Orion. It has a number of possible pronunciations, but one of the most popular is 'beetle-juice'. So the title character is named after the star (for whatever reason), but the movie's title is probably written that way because it's easier to read, and maybe sounds more fun.

22:36 - Technically, it was. You see, for Tim Burton, he actually drew that skull in that particular style for years. And since he did the designs of Jack Skellington for the animated feature, the design of Jack was somewhat similar to the skull featured in this scene but is not Jack's skull. So, technically, it could be seen as an appearance of Jack before the eventual release of A Nightmare Before Christmas, but it can also just be seen as a skull in the Tim Burton style.

@exile220ify2 ай бұрын
Up until this film, Michael Keaton was known for his comedic roles (see "Night Shift", also starring Henry Winkler). After the success of Beetlejuice (correct spelling is actually Betelgeuse but the studio heads figured audiences were too stupid to pronounce it), Burton cast him as Batman. There was a HUGE outcry at the time, saying he's a comedian and the role needed a dramatic actor. Keaton then proved everyone wrong and knocked it out of the park, opening up a whole new career as a dramatic actor.
@Elementarian2 ай бұрын
Don't know how many times i've seen this movie. Countless. Absolute classic. I think personally one of its charms is that we don't get more of Michael Keaton in the title role, adds to his mystery, his unique character and his impact cannot be understated. Also, Nightmare before Christmas is more of a collaboration. It's Tim Burton's story, and he was a producer on the project, but he did not direct it. That was Henry Selick. Burton also produced Selick's James and the Giant Peach.
