One of the things that always cracked me up about this scene is the Beetlejuice is in this huge hurry to get done with the wedding, but when the undead priest dude asks if he takes Lydia to be his wife, he runs a couple feet away and has a little talk with himself about whether he actually wants to do it. I like to think of this as one of his flaws. He's got immense power, but his two great weaknesses are the name being said three times and his inability to be serious for any great length of time.

the part where adam tries to say beetlejuice and his jaw falls off is kinda funny but also weirdly wholesome. first of all, he’s literally being exorcised and his body is decaying. yet he still tries to save lydia. and second of all, the way barbara grabs his jaw and tries to put it back is adorable in a super sad way. like obviously it’s hopeless but her first instinct was to fix him. this is kind of dark but it reminds me of how jfk’s wife was reaching out the back of the car when he was assassinated to grab brain matter (this is just a theory)

It’s strange that after seeing firsthand how Michael Keaton could play this bizarre character, he was chosen to play Bruce Wayne instead of The Joker in Tim Burton’s next movie Batman. Maybe Burton didn’t want him to become typecast.
@luckyDancer100Ай бұрын
Apparently Burton said he met with a lot of good looking types to play Bruce, but wanted Keaton because he looked mild mannered, but also had a bit of crazy in his eyes. Burton said physicality didn’t matter much because the suit would make up for it. Keaton started working out anyway till Jack Nicolson asked him “why are you doing that?” 😂

Beetlejuice isn't necessarily good or bad, and he doesn't really care if you are either. He's just mania and chaos personified.

Exactly this. He’s really not a villain, but he’s still scary because you never know what he’s going to do, or what he’s fully capable of at any moment.

I love how Lydia throws her purse in the hole at the end. This movie is such a classic, I could watch it a million times and it never gets old. I watched it on Spectavision with my sister and dad when I was vacation in Boston way back in 1989. My dad didn't want to watch it because he said it seemed too much like a kids movie but by the end of our trip he was quoting lines left and right. Good times back then.

This movie is a film masterpiece and this scene is so good. It's scary and creepy and laugh out loud funny and makes sense the more you watch it and study it. The set is amazing. The characters are so good and well-acted. The shots are great. It's so well-written and improved and directed. It took me rewatching to realize that's ALEC BALDWIN playing Adam. (Of course, I also know him from 30 Rock mainly, and he's a bit older and in a very different role, lol.) I love this movie and franchise. I hope Beetlejuice 2 / Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is just as good.

BJ's greatest weakness is his commitment to the bit, like he genuinely would've wrapped up his whole plan here so much faster if he literally just didn't crack jokes the whole time but I doubt he could stop himself even if he wanted to
