@@BeezBlades On a high dollar knife, the "split" or "seam" does not show. Just adds to the cost for precise milling. One of the things that take them out of "budget" label knives.

Today is the day of the Malibu. I just finished watching Zach's Stuff video. I'm a button lock fan and I fidget them like crazy and it helps with my ADHD I think. I only have a Cogent right now, but looking to expand. Great video man!

Holy cow everyone... I've owned so many Malibus, & although I know about the pivot being a 1.5mm / 1/16in bit & not a T6, only just today I realized that's not the only screw! The TWO BODY SCREWS NEXT TO THE POCKET CLIP ARE ALSO 1.5mm / 1/16in hex!!! I just verified with a magnifier & I'm stunned. I always used a T6 on those & it worked okay, but with magnification I can see where the T6 has been rubbing the inside because it's not a perfect fit. So I tried a 1.5mm hex bit on those two & VOILA, perfect fit! 😃 A T6 WILL work, clearly, since I've used it on these screws many times without noticing, but if we want our screws to last as long as possible, we should be using 1.5mm / 1/16in on the appropriate screws moving forward. Now keep on mind that the SMALL SCREWS ON EACH SIDE AT THE BLADE END OF THE HANDLE and the actual POCKET CLIP SCREWS ARE IN FACT T6. So we have a situation where 1.5mm / 1/16in hex bits are: pivot screw & two screws holding the scales together next to the pocket clip. And everything else is a T6. That means the pocket clip screws & small screws on each side of the scales near the ricasso/base of blade end. Four T6 screws, three 1.5mm / 1/16in hex screws. This concludes my PSA for the day. I am still shocked by this discovery, & I'll never be the same! 😆

The ProTech Malibu is a high quality, well made American manufactured knife. My first Car was a1969 Chevy Malibu way back in the day, I wish I still had that car. You Sir should enjoy that knife for a lifetime. Again Congratulations.

Luving those textured scales, but the hardware on the Malibu are both Torx and Allen head screws. The pivot and the bottom body screws are hex screws and the clip & top screws are Torx. The T6 will fit them all tho, but I wouldn’t recommend it 👍🏼…

Beez, look carefully at the pivot, it is NOT a T6! It's a hex key but I don't have one on me right now so I can't remember what size. I believe 1/16 in. Edit: It is in fact 1/16 in, or 1.5mm also works fine. I've owned ten Malibus & still have two of them. I learned about the pivot being a hex directly from Derek at Protech because I needed a replacement pivot screw for a Malibu I had where the original owner ruined it with a T6 bit. Please don't use Torx on your Malibu pivots, people!

What a good looking knife! IT seems to have a great action and you're a lucky guy to have friends like that. I got a Civivi Riffle this week and also an Eafengrow 0456 that is a chunk of a knife. Surprisingly, the Eafengrow has no markings whatsoever. It kind of makes me wonder if it's a knock off butwhy would somebody knock-off an Eafengrow? I like the feel of it though so it is a keeper either way. Once again, You're a lucky man Beez!

Just found your channel, great reviews. It's unfortunate that most all these knives I've looked up from your video, are not made in the USA. It's sad really, need more USA made knives. I own several knives from other countries like China, Taiwan etc, but just can't be that hard to find 100% made cutlery here, is it?!?!.

I get naysayers that dog me for having chinese knives, but I don't get many replies when I ask where I can get ceramic bearings, 154cm, 14c28n, great scales, smooth action, etc. for under $100. I'm a newly minted collector too (just mounted my first wall display case and knife #12 arrives next week) and you're so right, forums like this are invaluable. I've always carried a folding knife for work, but it's always been a $10 Walmart super cheapo. When I started upgrading my EDC tools a few months ago I casually researched more quality knives. And down the rabbit hole I went. I was mesmerized by the number of manufacturers and how many endless models and styles and sizes there are for any price point. Never expected to start collecting them, and channels like Beez Blades and KnifeCenter have turned me on to so many great knives and answered so many questions.

Congrats on getting a very cool knife. Protech has about the best button lock system on the market. Not a big fan of aluminum and buttonlock knives but this is one knife that I would make an exception for and I'd love to own. Great blade for EDC and a light carry. Hi Beez, Paul UK here, luv the Malibu you lucky so an so. Since getting my penguin as the 1st in my collection I have bought a job lot of 3 knives from mate for roughly $50. A Camillus 3.75 blade cura, a crkt Monashee and a Byrd cara cara 2. Know they are not the best but the price was right for boxed hardly used kit. Stay well and healthy, respect. Paul.
