I used the maintenance supplies I got from you to take apart my Civivi Praxis last night and the pivot was the exact same as this one. Took me a minute but I got it. I want this one in a bad way. Also bought the wood handled model, sexy knife!! As a woodworker I enjoy the wood models when available. My only knock on this knife with the wood, don’t know if this applies to the other non-wood models, is some clip wiggle. Of course I’m being super critical there is no problem with the clip, I just am aware that the clip moves more than my other pocket folders. First thing I did was check to tighten it, it was not what I’d consider to be loose. Even after torking the screws down….still wiggles, so I removed the clip and dropped some superglue into the holes and the flat contact spot the tightened it down again…..no change. My clip does not move at the base, but …it gives the impression of cheap despite all the beauty this knife does have. As you mentioned, a recessed clip mount area may change this or a clip with more substance? No matter this is an awesome EDC and prefer this over the cogent and the button elementum.

Gday Beezs!! I lost ones Civivi Cogent, went to go get it from the same spot I put all my knives and "BANG" no Cogent. Got the lock stick sorted on her so the last few times we had together were great. Shame, we could of really made sum beautiful music together but it wasn't to be. Im sure I saw her with another man last week and the one before, he looked sharp with great handles, like the type who put at least 5% in. It cuts me up sooo much to loss such a knife. May have to replace it with the one in the vid. For breky today I had Herring that I got from a local beach this morring. Well I used to be a total spyderco and bench made guy. I wouldn't carry anything made in China. The world is changed if you don't order a handmade knife. I have been a meat cutter for over 27 yrs and I know a good blade when I see 1. I retired and quality meat cutting knives are thru the roof. I subbed your channel. I also would only buy Merican, but the truth is a lot of American companies have fell behind in the design game and in quality control. My first Chinese knife was the Civivi Cogent and I love it. Now have three Civivis and the Kizer Original. I'm a logger myself and understand the need for quality sharp objects. I still love my Benchmade and Protech knives but I love these Chinese designs also. Hoping the US companies will step up their game.

I ordered the wood handle one and it came in the mail yesterday. When I took it apart the exact same thing happened to me. I cured it a little different by putting the C back on outside of the knife using some locktite. Then I put it back together no problem. That was new, I have about 8 Civivi knives and never had that happen before. 😁

Great informative presentation, Beez ! It looks as if we all need to take advantage of your missteps and assembly methods for our memory banks, regarding this new deployment button lock style of folder. I am new to collecting, so I cannot say that this is my preference. However, I sometimes have a tendency to search for a frame lock with my thumb when there is nothing there ! haha I do like the wood handles. I have one wood handled knife in my small collection, the Buck Decatur .

Civivi pivot is a three piece affair. The loctite broke loose on the wrong side. I had one do that. Red loctite on the show side took care of that. Mine does the same, cleaning helped and I’m sure using it will clean it up over time. Another 👍🏻

Opposite experience on my Cogent : I dried everything on receival, after noticing heavy lockstick. Thats what I do everytime, cleaning everything with Isopropyl Alcohol and then lubing only the wanted parts with KPL. However, I was forced to open the Cogent bacj several times as no solution to lessen the lock stick worked. I ended up having to lube the plunge lock part of the button.

After disassembly I noticed that there is a notch in the button, right on the surface that interfaces with the blade tang. I bet my kinfe has a faulty part and it still did go through QC. I e-mailed civivi 2 months ago but no reply

@@TopDog8762 I think I just got unlucky. Kizer always responded, I only had problems once with one of their knives and they sent me both liners and new washers to fix the problem. Maybe go towards a Kizer button lock if you want to be sure ? Otherwise you can pick a dealer that accepts to check the knife for lock stick before sending it your way :) for the cogent it's only some of them that have it, people make more noise when there's issues than when everything's fine.

I have the Conspirator with black micarta and the Altus with cuibourtia wood. Both are great knives. I have no button stick on either knife. Picking my favorite between these two would be like picking my favorite child. The Altus is a more compact EDC but the Conspirator feels so good in the hand. Tough choice.

Nice review. I have around 10 different Civivi’s. I just got this one today. I have noticed that the detent is fairly weak. It deploys ok with the light switch, but is hit or miss with the button. I hope I can tighten the detent a bit.

You got me hooked - ran across a couple of your videos the other day and been pigging out on them - so I subscribed ... might be of interest - in my geans, I opened the bottom of the pocket watch pocket ... and that's where I clip my EDC - kinda like a tailor-made case and it doesn't snag up with anything in my pocket..

Beez, I found from the disassembly on my Cogent that how I put the screws back in and tighten them down affected the button stick. I also shifted the scales a bit before tightening down to see if that would help and I managed to get rid of mine that way.

I have the Cogent in black and the Altus in wood. The Cogent has been perfect. The Altus had button stick like crazy. I took it apart and sprayed the spring with cooking spray and dripped KPL in the button itself and that fixed it.

Looking to buy my 2nd civivi, my 1st one being the imperium, carbon fiber copper, black blade nitro V. I haven't opened mine yet but wonder if all civivi's run thier bearing against a painted/coated surface like this. That could be modded to really make the action sing. Might open my imperium to see, bet it's the same. Also wood moves over time, so keep an eye on the centering.

Neeves had a good trick for (some)button stick. Theory is the scale is off kilter, possibly because the pivot is backing out and putting pressure on the scale. Loosen hardware then retighten each one slowly and evenly, moving between screws. Think of it like lugnuts when your changing a tire. He also recommended using loctite during this procedure, so I'd make sure that is indeed the issue first.

That button stick is an interesting issue. I have that same issue on a Kizer Cormorant… bad too! But, it’s only when I use the flipper, or thumb flick it. If you press the button and flip the blade out, it doesn’t stick. No other button lock I have does that. I have a Kizer Assassin that has absolutely no button stick… at all! I hate a mystery! 🤷🏻‍♂️

One more thing: if you draw on the blade's lock area with a graphite pencil, then open & close several times, then grab the button with your fingertips & rotate slightly, & repeat a couple times, it greatly helps with lock stick.

I've got both and I love them both. Wish the Altus had a flipper tab. The Cogent is a pretty big knife but my favorite fidget knife.

I have several wood scale knives now. The Sencut Honoris and CJRB Scoria versions are very nice, too. Gent knives without feeling like you're 80 years old.

Agreed! The feel of this reminds me a lot of the Shamen in-hand. I was just reading about the Cuibourtia Wood, and it's a tropical hardwood that seems to have a good reputation for inlays, instruments, etc. Man, I am so glad I opted for this one and paid the few extra bucks. Acetone disentigrates styrofoam. You didn't learn that from me. I got this version of the Conspirator & it made me sell my final Cogent. If you don't like the pocket clip, Civivi has them on Amazon in a two pack of the better flat ones for $5.00. This knife, though with a weaker detent, has smoothness rivaling the Malibu for me. Great knife, love the feel, the fuller, the size, the price. I did have to disassemble & reassemble mine to fix smoothness & centering issues, but ever since it's been perfect. Liners likely weren't seated properly. This also eliminated the lock stick.

Love this knife, I think I'm gonna chamfer the edges of the wood scales a little more, and hollow out spots on either side where your forefinger rests like the micarta grips. Then it'll be perfect!

Once you have the spring and button in place , hold it and put the blade in the closed position and it will lock everything in place so you can have your hands free to screw it all in place .

Thanks, Beez for the share. Classy-looking 3.5" drop point PB lock knife ... the Civivi Conspirator. Also ... thanks for comparing knife sizes by aligning pivots for an instant length contrast for both blades and handles/scales. I also appreciate your teardowns/assemblies of the knives. My only long-term concern for this knife is that pivot screw relying on the wood riser/boss to prevent spinning (wear-life?).

Being left handed,Liner locking folders are useless to me. This button lock model in a flipper is quite innovative. Will I add one along with my Contegos? Not sure.
