I am getting very weary of KZbin reviewers because of their conflict of interest w/ affiliate programs, but this guy is on a whole other level with his affiliate links. I've never seen so many affiliate links crammed into a video description and a stickied post. I wouldn't trust this reviewer at all.

@sammyprestwood31823 ай бұрын
The best razor-sharp knife blades are made out of very high carbon steel and they hold an edge like nobody's business.
@achimgeist51853 ай бұрын
The sharpness of a blade is determined by the geometry of the blade (thickness, grind, cutting edge, etc.) and by the structure of the steel; the finer the better. Melt steels are generally inferior to powder steels in terms of the fineness and distribution of the particles in the structure; larger carbides occur and this is more likely to lead to breakouts on a fine cutting edge, for example. There are melt steels that have a fine structure, such as Sandvic 14C28N, which was developed as blade steel, e.g. for razor blades. The edge retention depends on the blade geometry, as well as the steel and the hardening. Super steels have high proportions of components such as vanadium, which form very hard carbides that enormously increase wear resistance and thus also edge retention. No carbon steel can hold a candle to a good chrome steel or tool steel, let alone super steels.

No, i don't pass on most knives that are tip up. I only pass on 100% of knives that are tip up. I also pass up on just about 100% on any knives that cost 3 digits or more. I buy a knife to use it when needed. Whether it's cutting up a coke can for some random on the fly repair, or any other random use. I'm not going to buy some prize knife that I won't want to do that with. And probably 99.98% of people with a knife won't ever use it for self defense in their entire life. If I'm spending anything 3 digits or more, it's going to be on another carry pistol, rifle, bow, or shotgun, which also pretty much have a 99.98% chance they'll never see self defense action, but it will 100% get used to shoot some targets or animals. That's for sure.
