Corey, very few of these stories are known. The Jews who fled are already older, in their 60s and 70s. You can record a few videos, but is anyone working to preserve these stories in large quantity? Is any university in Israel running such a project? We continue to spend so much money on Holocaust investigation, education, memorials... Is anyone doing something to preserve the memory of 2500 years of Jewish life in Arab lands? In another 30 years the refugees will be gone and the Arabs will say that life for the Jews before Israel was great.

The guy asked her do you know their names, she said No! How do you help some one escape from Iraq to Israel without knowing their names? She then said it took them 1 year before they can escaped and she said "I was just a girl not grownup yet! You were just a girl? but can help grown up escape to Israel? Sounds like made up story with holes all over it.David you what know about Iraq Jews read a book written by one, that is a book title: "Ben-Gurion's Scandals " BY Naeim Giladi still alive living in the USA today. Migrated from Iraq to Israel (he got bad experience in Israel) and then USA.Painful truths about the Zionist rape of Palestine and deliberate planting of anti-Semitism in Iraqi Jewish communities during David Ben-Gurion's political career to persuade Iraqi Jews to immigrate to Israel. The Zionists' goal was to import raw Jewish labor from the Middle East to farm the newly-vacated lands and fill the military ranks with conscripts, to defend the stolen lands.

I am an Iraqi girl from Baghdad by origin we are Jewish. We had to leave Iraq in 1991. Absolutely terrible things have happened. However, there are many sweet and beautiful Muslim Iraqi people. I get the idea that Muslims are portrayed as a beastly monster to the Jews and the Jews are portrayed as a monster to the Muslims. This is a strategy that Hitler also used to exterminate the Jews. Sabrine, It is safe to say there are bad people in every group, no matter the group. Politics and propoganda are music to the ears of the naive, and there are plenty of them. Israel was the only place They could go after being homeless because the state of Israel picked them up and brought them there. That was the reason why my grandparents are zionists now. This woman is beautiful!!! OMG I loved hearing her story!!! You can see her truth in her eyes. For all the people picking her apart, claiming she said she wasn't allowed to go to school...but then "contradicted herself" because she went, and that she is a liar!! Pay attention people!!! She didn't change her story. She clearly says @ 2:21 and they didn't let me study in Iraq or develop my studies (or what we would say "further her studies") obviously at one time. Because when Corey asks "Because you are Jewish or because you are a woman?" She replies "Because I am Jewish." Cory asks "Was it not allowed for Jews to study?" And her answer is for all who claim she contradicts herself: "Yes, THERE WAS A TIME when Jews were NOT allowed to study...Jews had to have their own schools...and THEN... there was a time they let the Jews study in the University. But it depends on what era, every era there were different rules." Obviously she went on to go to University when the rules changed. She didn't contradict herself, she clearly admitted both situations existed at different times.

@Orthodox Fox you must be one of the biggest idiots alive. Hebrew was revived in the late 19th century by a (more or less) Lithuanian Jew named Eliezer Ben Yehuda. It had been dead for millennia before since it only was spoken to read the Torah (similar to Latin for Christians). So, yes, he was an Ashkenazi Zionist, but guess what, all people speaking with that accent THAT LIVE IN ISRAEL are Zionists as well. Why are they Zionists? Since they live in Israel. That simple. Overall, if u understand that Jews come from different areas in the Diaspora, you'll understand that, based on the language they spoke, the accent will be different. No one is forcing Israeli kids to speak French-influenced Hebrew.

What I see in her eyes is endurance and perseverance to continue along the road leading to the end of servitude, belittlement, and humiliation in her birth country that betrayed her aspirations and those of her family. A volatile society that could respect you and tolerate you one day , and turn against you another day, just because. As a Tunisian Jew that also fled i felt every word she said as if it weighed 100 kg each. The society was not as treacherous towards us as it had been in Iraq, but I tremble to the thought it could have happened today as radicalism is much more prevalent

I am also a Jew from Tunisia. My parents had to flee in 64 because there were rumors that Jewish Jewellers were trafficking gold. My father's workshop was famous, he even had official commissions, but he saw his friends disappearing one by one leaving no traces and he knew he was in danger. We had to leave for France in a hurry. We had lost everything and my father died of grief one year after. We never received any help from a refugee committee, only from Jewish charities. In our childhood we were often hungry and cold, twelve people living in a 2 room flat with no bathroom. And we came from the "benign" Tunisia. I can't imagine the plight of Iraqis, Libyans or Syrians. As opposite from Palestinians we were obliged to leave, it was not temporary, we didn't wait for our neighbours to be slaughtered so we could take back our possessions and steal theirs. Another difference with the Palestinian "refugees" instead of becoming terrorists and subversive criminals, we studied. We became doctors, lawyers, engineers and high ranking civil servants. I can't understand how the world can choose the side of these savages in the conflict. They never did any good to the rest of humanity, they only brought war, terrorism, subversion and destruction. We, on the other hand behaved like good citizen wherever we wandered.

Yo Corey, great video man such an awesome project that you are doing with these questions, massive credit to you for the idea and taking such action. I have also heard similar stories from my grandparents who fled Iraq in the 1950's. Does anyone know what efforts were ever made to help the Jews living in Arab states during this time? I cannot understand why there is such solidarity and support for Palestinians yet undoubtedly there was nowhere near as much support (if any) for the Jews persecuted at the hands of the Arabs as this lady accurately describes. Is it sheer anti-semitism? Or perhaps it is the fact that todays modern media has more platforms to reach audience today mixed with political agenda?
@oremfrien
@oremfrien 8 жыл бұрын
+Don Joe _Does anyone know what efforts were ever made to help the Jews living in Arab states during this time?_ First, you have to realize that Israel was extraordinarily weak, having barely won the Independence War. However, there were, as far as I understand, portions of the Israeli government that were actively trying to airlift people out of the Arab Countries, provided they could get to a neutral country, like Iran or Turkey. Jewish groups in both the US and Israel put pressure on the Iraqi Regime to lift their ban on Jewish emigration (which was active from 1946-1950), which led to the mass exodus of 80% of Iraqi Jewry from 1950-1952. Within Israel, huge refugee camps, call Ma'aborot were set up while Israel collected the funds to start housing the Jewish refugees. The Ma'aborot were operational from 1950-1957. _I cannot understand why there is such solidarity and support for Palestinians yet undoubtedly there was nowhere near as much support (if any) for the Jews persecuted at the hands of the Arabs as this lady accurately describes._ Support from who? The international community cared about the Arab Refugees since the Arab States in the United Nations kept going on about them and lying while discrimination against their Jewish population continued. The lying still goes on. Turkey tried to turn the Synagogue of Edirne into a museum and was defeated by public opinion, so Turks use this as "demonstrating that they are opening a new synagogue". Jews in Iran have one Ayatollah-certified representative in the Majles so Iran can deny that Jews are state prisoners. It's sick, but most countries do not want to seriously investigate Muslim treatment of minorities. _Is it sheer anti-semitism? Or perhaps it is the fact that todays modern media has more platforms to reach audience today mixed with political agenda?_ It is, in my view the rise of Postnationalism and Postmodernism, which value victimhood over resilience. Since the Jews are resilient and take care of their own, they are not worth pandering to, while perpetual victims, like the Palestinians under UNRWA, need to be coddled. This derives from the Edward Said and Noam Chomsky vision of the world in which only the West has the ability to influence people and the method of that influenced has been an oppressor-oppressed relationship. The oppressor is, de facto, morally culpable because they have power and the oppressed is necessarily morally non-culpable since their will is simply at the hands of the oppressor. No matter how horrible the actions of a Non-Western group are, it MUST be that those actions are a result of a Western action. (This is why Chomsky denies the Armenian, Cambodian, and Rwandan Genocides -- these would go against his worldview that "oppressed" Non-Westerners are incapable of having motivations that do not derive directly from Western oppression.) This view of the world is promulgated throughout Left-Wing circles and has become part of their belief system. Said's contribution, that Islam was the religion of the Non-Western people and, therefore, similarly morally non-culpable has been the most pernicious aspect of this belief as regards criticism of Islam and the actions of Muslims.

Don Joe At the time of the creation of the Israeli state, a British backed monarch was ruling Iraq. Nouri said was an obedient puppet and took orders from the Brits. It is no wonder that he would kick the Jews out Bc the British were the ones who struck a deal with the Zionists and promised them land in 1917. So in order to build the Israeli state they had to force out the Jews from Iraq and threaten them if they don't leave. Nouri said was hated by the majority of Iraqis and that's why the 1958 revolution happened. Before all of this though my parents told me that thousands of Jews coexisted with the muslims and the Christians. Iraq had been a land of many religions and people had religious tolerance. Sadly, things have changed for the worst in Iraq.

Iraqi Muslim here. Growing up my parents and grandparents always taught us that there was no difference between the religions and we were all one. In fact, my father who is now 70, his best friend from birth is Iraqi Jewish. It is important to say that although there are bad arabs, there are also good arabs and this is just like any other place in the world. After all, Iraq is the cradle of civilisation and the true Iraqis would never treat Jews like this. Politics and corruption is what ruined us. It’s not just the Jews that fled, Muslim and christian Iraqis fled too. Anyone who was a good person fled as they would have been targeted. It’s also important to say that there is a big difference between Judaism which is respected and welcomed and Zionism which is not.

You are so funny. Zionism is the idea that Jews have the right for their own country in their homeland. Zionism was a big part of Judaism all the 2,000 years of our diaspora but for now Zionism is irrelevant since it has already achived it's goal. But still we, the Jews, always pray for Jerusalem and always remembered and will remember that Israel is our homeland.

I was born in Baghdad Iraq and I do not recall experiencing any of the things she mentioned. We lived amongst Muslims and there was no such thing as discrimination until the farhoud incident. I am not denying that there were cases of mistreatment and violence influenced by certain political ideologies. However, to generalize and make assumptions about Iraqi Arabs is absolutely disgusting and ethnocentric. My family and I stayed in Iraq till the early 70s and we would've continued to live there if it wasn't because of the restrictions and limitations placed by the Ba'ath party. We lived with Arabs, Kurds, Assyrians and we never felt out of place. It is unfortunate to see certain people make ridiclous comments about millions of people and assume preposterous things about them because of the action of certain corrupt politicians who are deeply influenced by certain countries. Anyways, I kindly ask you to speak to more Iraqi Jews and get a better perspective about the truth. Our world doesn't need more hatred and poisonous ideaologies that will contribute to more pain and suffering.

Mike Letterst Love from an Iraqi Muslim ! I'm also from Baghdad. The history of Jewish Iraqis have always interested me and my father has told me many stories about the past. He says that many Jews were merchants and some were one of the wealthiest in Iraq. My grandfather worked with a Jewish merchant in Shorja Baghdad and praised the Jewish man's sincerity in work. We still own a closet that a Jewish carpenter built in my grandfathers house! The once Jewish presence and influence in Iraq can be felt by many Iraqis today. Iraq's political history saddens me and I'm not proud of Iraqis silence even though I know the Baathist part ruled by fear and placed spies everywhere. But I still feel like our people should have done more should have resisted the tyrannical regimes and overthrew them before America would in 2003. From an Iraqi to an Iraqi, I'm sorry for what happened.
