The double sided deadbolt is for security. My house has the same locks and someone can break the window and unlock the door. A month after I changed my lock to the Double deadbolt, My neighbor came over and said their house was broken into when they moved in by their French doors.

here in Indonesia, we generally have pretty bad crime rate (burglary and the likes) so all the houses here are either totally closed off from the outside (full wall around the house or high fences) or barred on all windows and doors. my house got infiltrated by my own neighbor twice before too (once they come in from the roof and broke the ceiling and the other time they just broke the back door with some heavy tools). So I have no choice but to install bars all over the house (literally steel bars like prison cells). Caught them red handed the 2nd time and called the cops because it was pretty loud when they break in.

@@Jay-rg5mt Well, I was intentionally exaggerating. Most of the houses in my price range in my area (CA) either needed a lot of work, had cosmetic upgrades that I didn't like but still needed a lot of work, or were new. Those "inside locking deadbolts" are to stop a burglar from being able to quickly load out, especially large things. I had a burglar break into a 2nd floor bedroom window and only got a hand fully of stuff because he couldn’t leave through the door. He had to go back out the window he broke through.

A safety expert warned us not to have the keyed deadbolts in our home because in case of a fire the key might be dropped or inaccessible and you are trapped inside a burning house. It is illegal for businesses to have a keyed debolt. Firefighters have found a pile of dead bodies at an exit because a key was necessary to get out the door.

An accent wall in each room is a bit much to my taste. I never saw that until the 80s and it was usually in the livingroom. Also dark colors or black on walls are not usually favorable. I know grey is finslly going out of style, i like light colors, especially palest blue or pink. I once had a real light almost white pink bedroon and 3 windows on different walls. As the light changed throughout the day it was like candle light in there. In the fall there was a tree with red/cranberry leaves and that made the room a burgandy at dusk. Really pretty and relaxing.

The use of space on the 2nd floor is very interesting. The bonus room off the master was obviously a 4th bedroom in the original plans but why steal sqft from a bedroom to give another room a 2nd closet in addition to a very large walk-in closet? The location doesn't imply any ducting or other services made an awkward nook that made more sense as a closet.

I'm happy to see that you have a new video out! I imagine the keyed deadbolt is to keep someone from breaking out a pane of glass and reaching inside to open the door. Did my eyes deceive me? It looks like you built that back deck on top of the broken slab. Why wouldn't you fix the slab? Doesn't that make your deck unstable? I know you were trying to keep costs down but the showerhead in the master bath needs to be higher. And I don't care for the tub. And I think there is way too much gray throughout the house. But then I don't do this for a living so what do I know?

The idea for a deadbolt on the inside is that someone can easily break a window pane in the French door - and then unlock the door. Not sure if it will actually slow down a thief, but in general, thieves are lazy and will move on to an easier target !;-)
@kristend3442 жыл бұрын
My youngest had autism. When he was really small, we had to install a double deadbolt to keep him from bolting. (The key was on a stretchy thing so it was in easy reach at all times - but out of his reach.) And a double deadbolt on a french door means a thief can't just break a window to open the door.

If i was was in the market looking for a home the gray walls will not go with any of my home decor so i would have to spend money to hire a painter to repaint the walls. Just stick with neutral colors and let the home buyer determine if thet want an accent wall and what color.

I think walls should be left neutral in any renovation project. Also I've noticed you never add any interior window casing to any windows. There is always a window sill but never any casing which looks weird. Maybe you could use the budget for the accent wall paint for the casing in future renovations.
