I don't think they realized how much they needed their own space until they got it. They can stretch out! And I have noticed that they settle down much faster when they're not smacked up against each other. LOL! :) That must have been interesting with 3 sisters together in your room! Hopefully you guys got along! :)

I know the prices for wood, especially plywood, is crazy this year. But maybe if you had built the headboards las well as the frames you could have matched the stains and beds’ design. This might have also allowed you to build the frames a little bigger to fit the mattresses. Another thought is if you removed the bottom framing on the dresser, added some support boards to hold new legs, maybe ones legs that matched the nightstands, then paint it the same yellow.

I 💜 the black accent wall. I love the entire project! I always pick up such useful tips from you. I do agree that the blue was a bit of a miss. I think that particular blue has too much grey in it to go with the yellow (in my opinion anyway).

You're right. Even my son Ohene was like, "I'm not sure about that blue, Mommy..." LOL. I love the shade of it, but not for that space. I think a nice gray would be great. I'll be repainting it soon. Thank you for the compliments and feedback, Darnia! :)

I’ve kept track of my grand kids heights by using blue painters tape on the inside of a storage closet door. Each child has her/his own strip on which I draw a height measurement line & date each line. They enjoy looking back at their growth.

That was the difficult part, especially in finding the comforters. There aren't many comforters that are made with a masculine look. They're either too girly, too plain, or just plain ugly. LOL. I was lucky to find these! I think it set the tone for the room! :)

Using antique headboards makes a room pop. I used 'full size' headboard for a room. Unfortunately, I had a queen size bed.... so what I did was to hang the headboard on the wall. So easy and looks great!

Was cool that you made those headboards into beds but they could just be attached to metal frames. I have done that before because I am not a woodworker like you. Just a tip for non wood workers. The room came out lovely. Good work Mom!!

I have never used primer when painting over dark-painted wall. A good paint will do the job in a couple of coats.

I think you are right about the blue, a different color might be better. A color has to tie in elsewhere in the room at least once to make sense.

You can have your primer tinted darker so you don't have to do 2 coats. Alternatively, Behr's paint and primer in one at Home Depot is excellent hiding paint and 2 coats covers everything.
