You cannot be deregulating fully and removing subsidy if there is no functional refinery. We are lucky that Dangote came on stream when he did.

This was an excellent guest, he stayed on topic. Instead of asking dangote, go to the government, go to NNPCL. Dangote is a private business, why is NNPCL now increasing their price

The last time they said subsidy was removed it was not. I don't believe this subsidy discussion anymore. I also feel this is much too complicated. We have crude, we have refinery, we have high demand domestically. I feel like any normal functioning country would find a way to make this beneficial for their citizens.

I completely disagree with the guest that since Dangote is buying in naira, the impact of exchange rate should be minimal... Yes he would be buying crude in naira but the naira would be the equivalent of the prevailing exchange rate at the time of transaction....ie spot rate. The only plausible way that Dangote buying in naira could bring down the pump price is the reduced demand for the $$ for the importation of refined crude and also also a big refinery like Dangote not having to further exacerbate that $$ demand by having to also pay for crude bought from the Nigeria in $$$. Less demand for $$$ for importation of refined crude, less pressure on the naira... Less pressure on the naira means less demand for the $$$ . If the demand for the $$ falls, it's value will fall and that is the same as saying the naira would appreciate. Lastly if the price or value of the $$$ falls relative to the naira, the conversion of crude oil price in naira equivalent would also fall...cheaper crude in naira means Dangote's input cost or cost of his most important raw material which is crude oil would fall and so would the price he sells and consequently the pump price of fuel would drop. In summary, fix the FX issues aka exchange rate and pump price of fuel would drop.
