Probably one of my all time favorite movie endings. The exchange in the end is iconic. "Baby, you are gonna miss that plane." "I know."

I saw this in theatres. Just randomly, with a friend, decided to go watch it. Hadn't even heard of the first one at the time. We're both writers, we were working on the same TV show at the time, so it really hit us. The art of it. We walked out of the theatre, and we were just, like, "What the hell just happened?"

The car ride really gets me in this installment of the trilogy. When Jesse is baring his soul and Céline reaches out to touch him but pulls back, I'm in tears. I like the way Sunset mimics the way Sunrise showed all the empty locations that they had visited but this time we see those locations before they go to them.

I had to zoom in on that particular moment where she tried to touch his head but then pulled back because I thought it was so sweet.

I think the relatability of age is a big thing. I can totally appreciate how you related to their situation and the dialogue at the stage of life you're in now because these movies came out in real time for me. The first movie I was in my early 20s. And the second, I was in my early 30s just like them. And the final one, I was the same age bracket as well. I am glad that you have stumbled on these films and enjoyed them. I had always bemoaned that I could never really discuss these films with anyone because in the current methods of streaming and media consumption, no one else would know what it would be like to have these films as a kind of companion every 9 years of my life.

When I have moments of loneliness, I don’t think about the people I’ve actually had a romantic relationship with. Instead I think of the girl I had a crush on in my class, but was too shy to talk to, when I was still a little boy. Celine’s grandmother dying, the business card you kept in your pocket… missed connections are the hardest to forget.

This movie is so beautiful. I love all 3 movies, but this is def my favorite. I only watched it for the first time 2 weeks ago andit's now obe of my favorite movies. I love the angst and they're more mature. I love their chemistry even more here. The ending is perfect ❤️ I love that he's fiddling with his ring and when he decides to stay he puts his arm down. And the way he looks at her 😩 I also love the playful scene on the park bench. And of course the limo 👌🏻 I'm actually getting a Jesse/Celine tattoo tomorrow lol. Can't wait.

Great reaction. I've come here because I, too, am a Before trilogy fan and this is my favourite. It's like your comment about watching real people and also the feeling of being in real time. And, like you said, every line of dialogue is important in this movie. Of course, it's scripted or structured but it feels improvised. One of the best 'real time' movies of all time and one of the best romantic ones.

I'd forgotten that I was the same age as the characters for the three films, and maybe that's why they resonate so much with me (aside for the realistic dialogue). This film is my favorite of the three, as it actually deals with consequences generated by the first movie, and it ends with a perfect "lady or the tiger" ending of "you're going to miss that plane." When it came out it was an extremely limited release film. I had to drive 5 hours to a major city (for something else, but it coincided with the film showing at a local art-house theater in the city) in order to finally get a bit of closure on the first film I'd loved. And the one showing I got to see, the projection broke some time when they were on the boat. There was no rescheduling of a showtime (I don't remember if the print was damaged, or if the theater was hard down, or what). So I had to wait like another 3 months for it to come to a video rental store to see how things finished.

I had a hard time with this movie when i first saw it, because the first one was just so captivating. Like everything was so up in the air. This one, however, felt like I was gasping for air constantly because of what they're like now compared to the first one. Not to mention knowing Jesse got married already. But now that I'm the same age as Jesse and Celine, i relate to what they feel and who they are. The feeling of being in between the sorrow of who we once were and the anxiety of what we might become is so real when you're in your 30s. Your input and comments on the first one were all interesting. Here, besides your commentary, I love how your reactions explain themselves. Cause, as you've mentioned, it just hits hard. We are just at a loss for words because of how relatable this film is at our age lol Looking forward to seeing you watch the last one!

I didn't feel like the ending was a cliffhanger like the first one. I feel like with that last scene and those last two lines there was no way they wouldn't get together. My favorite of the trilogy.

I've been refreshing your page for the last day or so after you mentioned you'd be reacting to this. I was not disappointed. I once stopped dating someone because she didn't like these movies. I mean there were other signs, but that was the one I couldn't ignore. They're too reflective of who I am and what I value to be able to be with someone who can't relate. Anyway, thanks for the reaction, I think it's wise to wait a while before doing the next one, but I will look forward to it regardless.

I have a set schedule of Mondays and Fridays at 20:00 UTC for video drops. Mondays are MCU/The Last of Us right now and then Fridays are other videos. I always share schedule/info on my Community tab, so no refreshing required. 😊 For next time, just wanted to point that out. Glad you enjoyed the reaction!

BTW the trilogy is filmed realtime over 18 years. as in 9 years pass between every film, both in the story and production. at the same time linklater filmed boyhood on and off over a decade covering the life of the main character, also with ethan hawke

Seems like plenty of people see this ending as a cliffhanger. But to be fair, when I first watched Before Sunrise and Before Sunset about fifteen years ago, I was also curious if it continues some way.

I saw the first movie because I liked Ethan Hawke’s work. Julie Delpy surprised me and together with Rich Linklater made a wonderfully intimate and real feeling film. It doesn’t hurt that I’m the same age as our lead actors. When this sequel came out I was certainly a bit more jaded. I appreciate how flawed the characters are and them struggling with the world’s expectations. I loved the ending and felt it was the natural progression of these characters. I saw this with a friend of mine who is several years younger and she hated the ending.

I see someone else already covered it in the comments, but yeah, while many years passed between 2 and 3, it's the same amount of time that passed between 1 and 2. They have discussed the possibility of making another one, but at the 9-year mark, Julie Delpy was trying to get a film of her own made and finding it a struggle, and she mentioned in an interview that she had turned down a fourth film at that time, so if there ever is another one, it will be a longer gap than the first two movies. Looking forward to seeing the third one in June. They are nothing like this, but another pair of movies that I really like are the Trainspotting movies. The first one is quite intense, and then 20 years later they made a sequel that I thought was honestly kind of a miracle, one which, like this movie, really felt like it reckoned with the fact that so much time had passed between the two movies in a way that made the sequel more interesting.

I could finally watched your reaction and I really liked how you were so touched by their reasoning and experiences once again. I didn't remember how old the characters were in this movie so I was a bit surprised to realize that even though I was super young when I first saw this movie I also connected and appreciated their dialogues. See you in June! 🌌

Some of the best character work ever committed to film, and all the better that the actors themselves wrote most of it.

I guess we’re looking forward to the third. I don’t remember it well so it’s not as memorable as the first two for me. I do remember being depressed after watching it though and wondering why there needed to be a third movie. I guess we’ll find out why together in June Lol.

Great reaction - I didn't have your self-discipline, and went straight to this after watching your vid on the previous one - someone pointed out that when they met in Sunrise he was reading Kinski and she was reading Bataille - both books providing a pretty frightening view of love and passion - but I think the idea of how these films are made is closer to Proust (though I hear Joyce is also invoked a lot) - poignant to see the psychic toll the years have taken on both characters/actors - Hawke esp feels a bit ravaged
