K612 Pro is really fine if the preference is classical / instrumental chamber string music. It gives us the clarify and soundstage. Compare to 6XX (which I have replaced the stock cable with the silver type material), K612 like sitting at the mid row of the small hall while 6XX more forward with impression quite near to the performers. For historical recording of classical music will have good presentation with K612 which is out of my expectation compare to K702/HD6XX/DT770/DT1990. I tried K702 but the can seems more “flavoring”. So I think most depends on the type of music, whether one is for mixing or just own enjoyment of listening. The major problem of K612 is too much sound leakage and the un-detached cable.
@HomeStudioBasics3 жыл бұрын
Yeah I kind of do enjoy K612 for classical as I think that's really the only genre it works for. I can't even do jazz with it. With other genres I feel like everything just melds together in a jumbled mess of fondue or something haha.

Great update vid!! Your K612 statements remind me of the Shure SRH1540 closed-backs that I'd tried out a few years ago. Basically the same outcome: headphones that are so flat-sounding that although everything sounds right, they just aren't any fun to listen to really at all. And I've seen a couple other reviewers on KZbin say the same thing too. (I ended up returning them within a week or two.) Yeah I'd consider the K702s to be perfect as well. And although I ended up selling them for the HiFiMan Sundara, I honestly consider BOTH to be perfect headphones, just in somewhat different (though not drastic) ways. So basically I'm saying I consider them equal and would never argue with someone who said they like the K702 more. Also, did you intentionally make a video on the K612 6:12 long?! 😂😂

I brought k612 after slight recommendation from Oratory1990, for mixing and critical listening. Damn it, you were right, those headphones are like the most common girl on earth in your review. They have such an fake soundstage that after listening to many things/voices and all I thought I was going crazy, they add tons of not realistic sounds that normally aren't heard on studio monitors. I wish I could love AKG, I like their design, comfort, and velour pads that come with many models but it's nothing special. Beside that, mine pair sounded like if someone added very tight slope for both bass and treble. Like If I was missing details in region of 0-80hz and from 8.5Khz to 12Khz, even with PEACE EQ it's not an headphone for working with audio in my opinion. Cheers.

I've been looking for a reliable daily driver for mixing duty, I want a neutral reference phone but am wanting to stay under $300 because diminishing returns and all that. I've got the K240 studios rn and they're fun but not quite what I want. Do you think the K612 being as neutral and balanced as it is would be a good fit? I liked the K612 as I find them to be more neutral than K712. Why buy a 712! Instead use a good tube amp to flavour the chain and take advantage of the higher impedance.. Though most commercial tube amps sound slow & cut out the details in top end. There are good tube designs though like ECP audio Torpedo I, Zana Deux, Aikido OTL, Soundgate Otomon, Apex Teton.. Dynamic drivers are more sensitive to amplification than electrostats: they scale up pretty well!

Hello! I'm looking for headphones to master, mix, produce trap/ryb/experimental/dubstep and occasionally record, but if they don't give good results I have others. I do not have acoustic treatment to isolate. I'm between the Sennheiser 560s or 599, AKG 702, ATH m40x, Beyerdynamic 770. Which one do you recommend?
@HomeStudioBasics8 ай бұрын
Hey man! 560S has a bass shelf, 599 rolls off some. Depends on what you're after. I typically like some bass roll-off. K702 is my main mixing headphone when I'm not using my Yamaha HS7s. 40x is trash, 770's bass is tuned wrong. Never use those 2 for mixing ever. You're better off with a 50x But i'd say 599 or K702.

@@HomeStudioBasics At least the K612 has a wide stage and okay imaging. It's better for classical and maybe even a bit of casual gaming than the HD6**. But the HD6** scales a bit better with gear. In my opinion, the K612 has a very niche and specific place for someone who is dead set on his or her preferences. For 100-150 bucks, it's still better to go with a K702, DT880, K361, SR80e, TYGR, used HD599.
