I happily bought the LCD-X for studio work only. I was very disappointed with its top end, (I know, you can eq it with software) I literally could not hear the hi hat during a mix. So naturally one would just increase the db right? WowChiE! When I listened to the playback in a different environment I was shocked to hear the hi hats so damn loud. Iv'e owned them a couple of years and only used them once. My DT770 are much, much more accurate on the high end. I do wish it wasn't the case. They'll be up on ebay for sure...

I bought a pair on a whim simply because I needed another set for my studio. They sound like a$$. Compressed, no bass, scooped midrange and dull, blended, muffles highs. The 9500's sound much better. Sad.

The 9600’s are really good all around, can’t really beat em for the money. Paired with the Vmoda Boom mic, it’s seriously a really, really, good gaming mic setup as well. I will admit though the Koss KSC75X’s are godtier much like the Casio F-91W in the watch world. 👌🏼

In my country, the AKG K702 is available for $125 while the Sennheiser HD 560S is for $191. Is the HD 560S worth paying $66 more?

It makes sense that the K240 sounds better than the SR850: they costs a little more and they're made by AKG. If you can afford the slight price increase then go for the K240, but if you really can't, then don't worry and get the SR850; they're a great value and they're praised by many people

Let me propose an idea about burn-in. It is something that was quietly started by industry players, and allowed to grow. Think about it. The audiophile hobby can be very expensive, and this leads to the trend of people buying various expensive headphones to test them out. Then, after finding the perfect one, they return the other headphones within the timeframe provided by the return policies. Audio companies must seriously HATE that policy. So, by introducing the idea of burn-in, they can mitigate at least a part of that problem. "Give it time, your headphones will break in, and then it will start to sound real good. Give it about 6 months." Just in time... For the return window to close.

The HD280 pro changed the eq curve in the newer ones. You can tell the difference on the body. Luckily I have an older pair before they changed the curve. The ones at 1:23 are the older ones, compared to the revised model, I think the older ones sound cleaner and clearer, when I had both versions to A&B side by side.

Are you talking about DAC chips or DACs as a whole? Because a DAC that you use is much more than just a DAC chip - it has a USB interface, an analogue section, a power supply, and so on. All these things affect the sound. No, I have 3 cheap DACs - Dragonfly Red, ifi iDSD micro and Hegel DAC. They all sound different - Dragonfly is thin sounding with a flat soundstage, Hegel DAC has a thick, fat sound with a fine soundstage but less detail, ifi DAC is the best of the three (and the most expensive) - has detail but it's not sharp, nice soundstage width and depth, have that kind of smoothness of sound that's very pleasant to listen to. The only drawback compared to the more expensive units is the lack of full scale dynamics.

I have 3 DACs (akm, r2r, cirrus) and all sound different. I guess it depends on your hearing skills & biology. Look up for DIY boards where you can swap out these chips to hear the difference from the same boards.

I own several. Tested my Apogee Ensemble, Motu M4 and am my UAD Arrow. The Apogee was well balanced, the UAD has less defined high frequencies and the Motu has the clearest sound. All sounded different but all useable. So.......maybe more testing is needed.

You are correct. The quality of the master recording is probably the most influential aspect as to how a complete system sounds. I have 3 DACS. 1 ESS DAC, 1 R to R DAC and another ESS DAC built into my headphone amp. They unquestionably sound different. That difference is subtle, but, irrefutable! Yes I could indisputably identify them in a blind A-B test. I also have 3 amps, 5 if you include the preamp and headphone amp. A premium, vintage, British, class A-B integrated amp. A pair of premium, class A-B monoblocks and a class A-B premium stereo power amp. They all sound so different that I know, beyond any doubt, I could and have, identify then in a blind A-B test. Coming a very close 2nd to the master recording for making a huge difference, are speakers or headphones. Making a more notable difference than source components, DACs or amps. As for interconnects or cables, well, I’m not going to get tied up in that circular argument. Enjoy the music

Really great work here. For fun I built an R-2R ladder DAC using a cheap micro controller and very closely hand matched resistors. The difference in the pull up vs pull down pin drive resistance limited the SINAD to about 72 dB or the equivalent of a 12 Bit DAC. I demonstrated this DAC to all of my audiophile friends and these guys with multi-thousand dollar DACs raved about the sound of my DAC. As vinyl records have a SINAD of maybe 60 dB on a really good day, I would say many audiophiles have no clue that a 90 dB SINAD system greatly exceeds the resolution of their hearing. So it is hilarious to see people talking about upgrading to these 120 dB SINAD systems from the 108 dB system they bought a few years ago. I spent a few months studying and measuring the performance limits of vinyl records. It was very enlightening to see that the very best systems had distortion of 0.5% at 1 kHz with 5 cm/s standard level and it the distortion increased with increasing frequency from there. Audiophiles are not interested in high fidelity.

Buying a refurbished 560s my next paycheck and a 6xx on black Friday was my game plan, this video cemented it. Watching this on a 599SE I got for $60 which is also pretty good, I think they'll all complement each other well.

SHP9500 does sound 50% better with a DAC or when connected directly from the back of the PC. If you are using it on the front connection of a PC you are ruining it basically. After having a DAC I started to truly appreciate the SHP9500. Thinking about buying a HD600S2 but is getting discouraged after understanding it has a narrower sound stage. I just like the wide sound stage I am used to getting more. Unless HD600S2 is really worth it regardless. (I understand it is quite similar to HD600 with just a bit of boost in sub bass)

A real Audiophile is born with super-human hearing, rivaling that of dogs. Plus, they are not poor and can afford very expensive power cords, that will transform miles of electrical flow, in the final 6 feet. The process of the electrical transformation is also known as FM. No, not Frequency Modulation.

The fact that HD 6XXs are cheap makes me think they are made in China. Americans like Chinese products. Europeans prefer quality.

Hey there, not sure if you are familiar with teh 599 as well but what the heck will ask ya anyway, for gaming and casual use would you go for the 599 or 560s where I live they are the same price? In terms of Breathability and comfort which one is better. Also do they leak a lot of sound or I need to max them up a lot? Thanks!

Too easy...the type of DAC chip, the analog output stage, the type of power supply and quality of parts used. That's just for DS DACs. R2R DACs...the type, amount and spec of the resistors in the ladders and/or type of multibit implementation plus all the factors above. Really?! If you can't hear a diierence try harder or get a more resolving system.
