Alan talks about the differences between mobility scooters and leisure vehicles?

I'm with the 'in favour' group. I have difficulty walking, that's all. The speed, twist-grip, hand-brakes are not a problem. There is a magnetic brake, which is useful but not essential for me. If I could get my foot up on the pedal I could still cycle. These faster scoots are a good bike alternative. I can do the same speed (almost - it struggles to get above 15mph) and I can do all the off-road tracks I used to do, providing there are no kissing gates or other width restrictive obstacles. If a horse can get through then so can I. It's too heavy to lift over, same as the horse. I've got 2 lithium batteries on board so have a range of max 40 miles at 15 mph, which is enough. It is infinitely adjustable. I can zoom along or creep along. I don't object to it being referred to as a leisure vehicle. It certainly is that but it is also a mobility scooter. Mine in the Green Power Fastest. These are also known by other names (Veleco Faster, or Luxxon E4800 to name 2) and are made in Taiwan (I think). It has 4 big wheels and muchos ground clearance so can do curbs but not steps. Hills & rough terrain don't frighten it. It loves trips to the pub even when it has to travel 15 miles to get there. It can also pootle around the supermarket at 4 mph or less. If your only disability is walking then it's one of these you need, not a low power, low range, low speed, tiny-wheeled high-price alternative. It doesn't fold though. Finally, I don't lose any sleep at all worrying about what the DVLA think about it all.

Ok, these scooters go bicycle speed. So If you can’t handle that don’t get one. I on the other hand love mine. I can get to the market, Dr’s office, pharmacy, and it can cover long distances quickly. I like a little speed now and then, and if there are pedestrians, simply slow down. If you can handle a car on the road, then you could very well handle this on the sidewalk. In the U.S. these scooters are legal anywhere a wheelchair is legal and I think that’s great. But if you are unsure of yourself or your reflexes, try before you buy. Cheers!

I love mine. Been riding it since January 2021. They dont take off fast unless you want to go fast, thats why it has a throttle control like a Vespa. Mine has 3 speeds controlled by a switch. I mostly leave it on *1* and its a fast walk or as stop (I have control). I am so sick of people messing with new ideas. Im 77 my version has 4 wheels. I often swop between my wifes electric wheel chair and my new eScooter. Her chair is Far more dangerous up and down curbs. DVLA have no authority over Disability vehicles used off road. Mine has a sign on the back (Disabled Driver) MY Medical Social worker stated if a battery vehicle suites my needs and quality of life and has Safety Certificates (Mine does) for use in public then dont worry. Anyone remember those big noisy 3 wheel petrol vehicles as Mobility vehicles? *Throttle and hand brake* controlled to. No one complained about them, so why complain at these smaller safer units that cost so much less. Yes Retailers dont like them because you can buy your eScooter so much cheaper! Tut-tut!

Its not the scooter that causes the damage its the person who's in control that cause the damage... I love mine...I reduce the speed when approaching and turning corners as mines a three wheeled one as in the video.. And DVLA its not an issue they tick all the boxes when it comes to there regulations of class 3 I do agree tho i think insurance must be compulsory, This is just my opinion on the scooters

I have the "fastest" name of model, restricted to 8mph, supplier would not supply it with the 15mph speed. I have had it 3 years and had been pretty reliable. The twist grip automatically returns to zero on release and the scooter stops without using the brakes. My only complaint is the turning circle of the 4 wheel fastest is abysmal, no good for shops. For a fun cheap scooter I'd recommend it.

To be fair it's one of the best scooters on the market for a very cheap price, it climbs 60 degree hills with ease in the backstreets of Scotland and it's been running great for three years now and the only problem with it is the battery. It usually doesn't last longer than 6 months which I think is the case with most scooters.. and the other problem is back break ...There is also a button for the top speed of 8 mph that you can change, because it's 8 mph in the UK but 16 mph in the EU.. so If you speed up, the problem is with the driver
@jameskenney6533
@jameskenney6533 6 ай бұрын
You are correct. These scooters can reach speeds of around 16 mph. This is because that is the maximum speed they can be used in EU countries. There should be a speed limiter built into the machine, so it complies with the maximum 8 mph speed requirements for use on the UK roads and also a switch on the tiller to further limit the speed to 4 mph so the scooter can legally be used on pavements. If someone switches the speed limiter off, then that's their own lookout because you will definitely be speeding on UK roads, and the police can charge you for that and also, in certain instances, take the scooter as well. I found out about this doing research into purchasing a scooter. I hope this helps.

I wonder what the DVLA would have to say about this? I have also had customers unhappy with these scooters, My reccomendation would be to spend your money on a proper mobility scooter and future proof yourself as These are a grey a area and the dvla will possibly take some sort of action in the future! Great video alan! Hope to see more soon.
@wobblywheel295
@wobblywheel295 Жыл бұрын
Your exactly correct. The only way to get it to creep along is start in the high speed setting (3) then switch to (1) if you start in (1) it takes off like a formula 1 racing car, great for shopping in Asda, our one as a top speed (On a private driveway) of 25 mph on the flat, the other problem is the 3 wheel configuration, (Ask any one who had a Reliant Robin, I did) coming on and off a pavement, at an angle, it seriously tilts at low speed 1 to 2 mph, and like the Reliant, if you turn sharply, it comes up on 2 wheels, alright for me I'm used to that happening in a Reliant, but someone, who has never had that experience, will have an heart attack! Really not fit for stated purpose, and should only be sold as a 3 wheel electric vehicle, certainly not a Mobility Scooter. Would suit London ULEZ scheme for those delivery guys or going to work, 20mph speed limits in London!

It's an electric bike. I don't have this one mine is much bigger When I looked on the manufacturers Web site I found mine being sold as an electric bike then they had the same model being sold as a mobility scooter with a name change. The only reason it gets away with being a mobility scooter is because it has a key to restric it from going over 8mph . The key can then be used to unrestrict it once your on private land. Mine is not what I would call street legal. Has lights indicators and horn. But no hazzard lights and no bleeping when you reverse. It was also hard to get the insurance company to insure it but in the end they did once I told them about the restricted key setting
@charlesterski1461

I would like to add, don’t buy one of these types of scooters thinking you will be using it in your home. They are made for open spaces, and large isles like in stores. And the U. S. law is that if you are able to walk alright, a store owner could ask you to leave it outside. And if you can’t walk, he has to either let you in or do your shopping for you while you wait. I one time went into Aldi’s and the manager said that I could not bring in a motorized vehicle, and I corrected him by telling him this was a mobility scooter and showed him the legal documents explaining where it can be driven, he now greets me with a smile when I come in. I take it in Meijer’s, Walgreens. I rarely go top speed, but it nice to have it just in case you need it. These scooters have a low setting which makes it very simple and easy to safely navigate around people on the sidewalk or in a store.

My view is that anyone who uses one of these on a public road or footpath is breaking the law, as they are not properly speed restricted & have no automatic breaking system - both of which are required before a vehicle can be classified as a class 3 mobility scooter. If one was involved in a serious accident, the legal repercussions would be harsh. You also should be aware that even though you pay no road tax, if you use a class 3 mobility scooter on the road, you still need to register the vehicle.

There was a comment made that “Disabled people are not ‘old farts’” I like the sentiment but not all disabled people are old farts is better and this scooter makes that clear. If you are infirm, and really need a “Buggy” to get around then this is not for you. You are better with an 8mph maximum buggy. This Scooter is more like a trike and suffers from the same stability issues that a small 3 wheel buggy does only it’s bigger. Again if you are infirm or have balance issues yourself a three wheeled vehicle is not for you!! This Ztech ZT-15-E Trilux is a very good scooter for those who are more active, have good balance and motor skills - whether they be disabled or not!! I have one of these, an early “B” model and it is by far my favourite ever, though I would prefer it as a four wheel version. Up to 37 miles on a full charge it pretty much saves its cost in a year in savings on petrol - two years if you are a fair weather rider... I agree that the weather protection for the electrical system should be better designed but a handy “son (in law)” and a couple of £5 electrical junction boxes will help with that. I like it and my only problem is whether to service/maintain/repair it this year or buy a more modern one.

This is definitely more then a Mobility Scooter. Mine goes up to 23km an hour. It depends where u live and the municipality whether u can drive it on the road and/or sidewalk. Where I live I can only drive it on the sidewalk unless there is no sidewalk. If u use common sense. IE. Don't drive 23km on the sidewalk and give priority to pedestrians you'll be fine. Go slow. The speed is adjustable. I can even bring mine into the local Supermarkets.

With over 15yrs experience of driving, servicing and repairing these scooters, I can honestly say they are not suitable for the UK market. The damp/wet climate plays havoc with the on board electronics. The newer versions of this particular scooter have actually had electronic break assist fitted, but it acts more as a retarder and kicks in violently as you start to slow down. (Quite disturbing when you are still doing 15mph). The on board control unit (the scooters brain) is bizarrely fitted on the rear panel in between the rear lights and has absolutely no form of protection from water ingress. I have personally been on one of these scooters during a rain shower in the UK, it was only a couple of weeks old, but it still ended badly! The water coming off the tyres was continuously being splashed underneath the bodywork, as a result the control unit was having an unwelcomed wash. This caused the controller to fail, cutting the motor and the scooter came to a sudden stop at the side of the road. On the flip side, I have some of these scooters in Tenerife, where the climate is dry and warm. Some of them are approaching 12yrs old and they run without fault. If you are in the UK and are looking to buy a new mobility scooter, DO NOT buy one of these, they do not give you the same safety levels as an actual mobility scooter does, most of these don't even have seatbelts fitted. A lot of registered mobility equipment sold is crash tested prior to gaining a safety licence. I have seen the aftermath of a crash with one of the scooters above, they crush and snap at the front section incredibly easy. They certainly wouldn't pass a crash test study.

The government say one thing, But a Judge in Norfolk hit this on the head by saying after the police where pulling disabled people for these bikes..That he has a car that will do 160 mph, but he sticks to the speed limits, And just because these bikes can do 18 mph doesn't mean that most people will ride at this speed. Case not found and the police where ordered to immediately stop this nonsense. Like a car you can only be pulled if your exceeding the 8mph limit.. end of.

I had a test drive and experienced no problems. As a road legal scooter crawling along at 4mph is dangerous. A higher speed capability for road use would be a sensible direction to improve road safety. They have 3 speed settings 4mph, 8mph, 16mph Europe Legal. Riding the trike common sense tells you not to do a tight turn at a high speed. The scooter is not dangerous. It is the driver who is dangerous. Some folk are incapable of using 4mph pavement scooters as they collide with pedestrians. This scooter is a good buy and is available with a 1000 watt motor for tackling slopes without burning the motor out. Baby scooters cant cope with hills.

One of few that has a basket as well as the lockable compartment under the seat (I hang bags from the basket. I have my mother's medium sized mobility scooter and the ZT15 is so much bigger (71cm wide vs 65cm wide Comet). They are heavy to push and accelerate quickly. I do not take it in supermarkets or even a shopping mall. I do take it to the high street but always leave it outside a shop where as I drive my mother's scooter inside supermarkets (I can put groceries in the front basket). The supplier I used offers test drives. I love mine. It does get me to the supermarket quickly. I would advise to keep both scooters if you get one.

I definitely dont want an "ordinary" mobility scooter (after seeing my neighbour tip over on his going down a steep hill) and love the look of these bad boys, probably because of my love of motorcycles which I used to ride. I can walk, but get breathless very quickly so Im practically housebound since giving up my car due to insurance companies almost doubling my insurance (even though I had never made a claim or been at fault in any accident). Then there's petrol, road tax, MOT etc, I just couldnt afford to keep my car. Reading through the comments here though would put me off buying one of these if they are going to change whats legal and whats not in the future, I could end up having to get rid of it anyway because I dont break the law.
