Tudor listens to their consumers. That's why I have purchased every modern Tudor since the release of the black bay 41. Every watch geek wanted a smaller dive watch in a material that is lighter and less scratch resistant. A better bracelet because they didn't like the look, a better clasp with a extension. Tudor gave the clients all this in this release, but it doesn't matter what they release, every watch geek think they know better and find negatives. I personally think it's an amazing watch. Thanks Teddy for the great review.

I imagine it would make for a great 1 watch collection (even though we all know there is no such thing). Not that I'm suggesting 'get one and sell everything else you have'. Just that, if a friend or colleague suddenly became a watch nut and told me their budget was enough to include this as an option, right now, it's the one I would recommend. Especially after comments like this. Thanks.

They really nailed the design. The dial is perfectly balanced. The square hour markers are fantastic and unique giving it a vintage feel. The snowflake hands suit the hour markers exceptionally well. The understated matte look is utilitarian and functional. Submariner is beefy and shiny where this is like the Rolex Explorer. A classic for times to come.

I recently picked up my P39. So far I am very pleased with this watch. It feels very high quality and has a modern sharp feel to it that I appreciate. I was slightly concerned about the size of the clasp but on my 17 cm wrist the clasp is center nicely and does not feel too large. My watch runs at around +1 sec per day which is very impressive. For this price you'll be hard pressed to find a better diver.
@anthonystevens8683

I popped into my AD a few days after launch to enquire about the P39 and they had one in stock to show people the real thing before selling it. I looked at it and was pretty stunned how different it was from the LHD that I've had for some years. It's so much lighter than the 42. I did notice the long clasp but felt it should be OK (the LHD has quite a long clasp as well) so I registered my interest. A couple of weeks later I had the call so went back and picked it up. Some reviewers have commented negatively on the sunburst dial saying a dive watch should have a matt dial but the sunburst finish is very subtle and in most lighting conditions it look a deep black tone. The bezel has a little more pronounced sunburst effect but works great. The lume is brilliant and I think it's super readable. I had mine sized so the clasp was in the middle (with links removed from either side like all my watch bracelets) and have no issues with it. In summary I have no regrets purchasing the watch. If there was a slight negative it does take some wrist time away from my LHD but it's different enough from its larger sibling I can't bring myself to selling my beloved super comfortable LHD. If anyone has reservations about the sunburst parts or the clasp all I would suggest is going to see one if you can. I do understand that this watch is not for everyone.

I’m loving this watch and with the T fit clasp it fits perfectly, with the Titanium case & bracelet it doesn’t fall off your wrist to the side like a Rolex Sub, its a great timekeeper with great lume. I love the 21mm lug to lug, makes the watch chunkier but I’m with you on the clasp, this is not a dive watch and doesn’t need the dive extension, this is an all round utility/sports watch, apart from the large clasp and maybe a date this watch is just perfect! The other bonus side is you are unlikely to be robbed (especially in UK) as its not a Rolex😉.

As a person who wore a Speedy Schumacher 03 for 10+ years, this is super tempting. Honestly, the only thing I do not like about the watch is the Titanium. There is something to be said with a weight of a watch and when you are dealing with something as compact as this, the obvious Submariner from Rolex and the higher grade of Ti, I would say it is the only slight miss in the watch. There are so many grades of stainless to consider as well as various alloys thereof. Maybe it is me, but I like the feel of the weight of the watch I pick. That is not to take away from this watch nor anyone else's choice. When you think about having 2-3 watches in your collection, you really want to make sure it is something that is wearable as both a piece of art, a time piece, and to a lesser degree a subtle nuance to what you are like as a person. Absolutely beautiful time piece. Love the red. Would have liked to see a bit more game in the palladium, rhodium, stainless steel, chromium, cobalt and other alloys. I work in med-tech. Metal selection has a human factor element that is so important. Bring it over Tudor.

As someone who owns two Black Bay 58s in black and blue, I thought the P39 would be a "can't miss" based on the perfect case dimensions and specs; it went to the top of my short list. But when I tried it on in person, something about it didn't quite click. Couldn't identify what it was, maybe the double sunburst. It felt off though. Sterile. Bottom line: check it out in person and don't just make assumptions based on the specs.

Nothing against grade 2 titanium (I have a watch made if this) but a watch in this price range should be grade 5. Also, if the bezel is 40mm, then industry standard is to go with the widest width of either bezel or case for stated dimensions, so this should be called 40mm. Finally, if your wrist size is small, a clasp that long is going to look weird and uncomfortable anytime you rest your hand on anything, like a desk or on your own leg when sitting, and sometimes even when holding your hand up. I went through this with my Omega watches. I started with a 40mm Railmaster that has a long clasp, which for the previously mentioned reasons ruined the fit on my small 6.5 inch wrist. I eventually got rid of that watch and got the Seamaster 57 LE which has a compact clasp and have been happy ever since making the switch. I’m a fan of Tudor watches but I’ll give this one a hard pass. Great review as always. Nobody does it better.

I do like Tudor but I saw this in person and it's quite a dull watch.. if it was my only expensive watch, I would rather get Omega, a Tudor FXD or many other watches... to be honest I also prefer the black bay 58... EDIT... several months later I am changing my mind hahaha. we watch people are mental. The more I look at this watch the more I love it. I prefer the square markers to match the hands, and the weight too... The shiny dullness I can get used to . It's not the most exciting look, but sometimes that is just "classic" and something that makes the watch a keeper (think Explorer, Speedmaster, Submariner etc)

I always said a smaller Pelagos would be my perfect watch, but two things massively annoyed me about this release. Firstly no date, like the original 42 Pelagos, which makes this little more than a BB58 in a different shell, and more, a Pelagos 'lite' Secondly, Tudor/Rolex need to stop messing with the lug widths, like how they've done with the new Explorer, these are supposed to be 'tool watches' and therefore utility rich. Stick to the standard 18/20mm lug widths, not 19/21mm. I think this watch would look 'amazing' on a green nato, but where are you going to find a decent quality 21mm nato strap??

Everyone is making a big deal about the clasp but I don't see it as being much of an issue. True, the dive extension is very uncessary especially considering they already lowered the water resistance and removed the helium escape valve. The overall watch is so light though, that the large clasp helps balance it out.

I don't see the reason why to buy Pelly 39 before BB58 for majority of potential customers for it's higher price. Tudor advertises this as a "fashion watch", so their aim goes not towards professional divers who could appreciate it's higher "toolishness" and I don't expect there is many pro divers listening/needing this as a backup watch anyway. BB58 is simply more dressy and with it's higher detail level more beautiful watch.

Yet again also, so many people don’t understand WR for watches or just in general. The pressure created while in water isn’t just about depth! While moving through water, pressures can exceed depth. So a 50 metre WR watch, when being moved through the water can sometimes be subjected to pressures that exceed 50m. That is why a “swimable” watch needs to be at least 50m. If you took a 200m watch and used it at 200m it could potentially be useless- or go to those depths but don’t move it around. I actually think that iP ratings should be used instead. Pro dive watches are rated to much higher depths because a 1000m dive watch even at 300m depth could still be subjected to pressures that exceed the capability.

Pelagos 39 has been on my short list for months while waiting for a call from Rolex that never came. I had all but removed the 39 from that short list because I was worried about the bezel and dial finish based on the close-up views and lighting of some of the review videos. Once I finally saw it in person today, it did not take me long to pull the trigger. The video reviews of this watch really put a microscope on the finish, in a way that it just does not come across to the naked eye. In person, the finish to the bezel and dial is like "eggshell" to use the terminology of latex interior paint. It's not glossy or even semi-glossy; just one step removed from matte. I think because the size is diminished, it has a more subtle wrist presence that Tudor offset by adding just a wee bit of sheen, while preserving a matte look.

I was very excited about this watch. It hit everything I wanted from a diver, but then... no date. I own a BB36 and really like it, but the no date bugs me often when I look down and it's not there. It's a must now. Except on a dress watch which I wear rarely and care more about being slim with clean symmetrical esthetics than anything.

Thanks for measuring the clasp length! (46mm.) I spent an embarrassing amount of time on web searches the other day trying to figure that out. It's my one hangup about this watch, and the nearest Tudor AD is over an hour away. Didn't wanna make the trip just to find out whether or not the clasp would swallow my tiny wrist!

I have the a blue 42 , 39 is a bit small and light for my taste. But it is a real nice piece for smaller wrist for sure.

Just my opinion of course. Think I would rather have the Zodiac Super Sea Wolf. Seems to win all categories except power reserve. (not a big deal.. 30 seconds to set and go)

When I hear the descriptive words “for medium to large wrists” I shy away, I am definitely leaning towards “smaller to medium size wrists” I have a 7 inch wrist and love 38mm with a lug to lug of around 47mm

If I had to guess why they went with a 21mm lug width, I’d say it’s because a taper to 18mm at the clasp isn’t enough going from 20mm. Or at least, that’s what some would say. But I agree with you, Teddy. I think a 21mm is a swing and a miss. Great video, Teddy. Thanks!

It tapers to 16mm, same as the BB58 which has a 20mm lug width.

I actually think they made a different size so you can't put a bracelet/strap on from another model... the rubber strap comes with a buckle whereas I would have prefered a clasp like the black bay 54's rubber strap....

This watch is absolutely perfect to me the only thing I can actually think that would make this even more perfect is having a dat calendar but then again there would be barely any face difference from the the old one so I also get it

I just wish they would have dropped this with a date complication. Starting to think that Rolex is never going to let Tudor release a date complication watch with a thickness less than 14ish mm.

Just got mine today. Wish it had no diver extension and smaller clasp (won’t use anyway like 99% of other owners) got the bb58 bronze with t-fit clasp and it’s a much better size and comfort. So I will probably wear it mostly on the provided rubber strap 😅.

I absolutely love it, everything about it, the only thing is I’d have to see the sunburst bezel insert in the metal as I’ve never seen one like that ever and I’m not sure, as with all things though watches definitely look different in your hand than any video or photos on the web, I do really really love the watch though, 100% my kind of watch, I hope to pull the trigger on one soon, thanks for the excellent video Teddy 👍🏻

This is an amazing watch, I think you nailed all the pros and cons. This can very well be my next watch. I purchased the BB Pro several months back and that's my daily wear. I wish Tudor would take the bezel on the Pelagos 39 and use it on the next gen BB58, obviously in stainless steel. Also use the crown and T-fit clasp from the BB Pro and price it in the low $4K range and you wouldn't be able to keep it in stock. Great video Teddy. 👍

Good luck buying one. They are all on "allocation" with no projections of delivery. Received this email this week from my local AD: _"We currently do not have this timepiece available, nor do we have visibility on future allocations as it is a new timepiece from Tudor."_ It's been this situation literally since the day the watch was announced.

I guess it depends on the area , I was on the "list" , randomly went to the AD to see if they had one I could at least look at. They had one arrive that morning and said I could take it. I had no prior purchase history but had popped in a few times and talked watches.

The 6-digit Rolex Submariner is now too large for smaller wrists. The Tudor Pelagos 39 is the perfect alternative. 39mm cases fit better on many owner’s wrists.

Not the biggest fan of the snowflake hour hand, but it works so much better compared to the BB due to the square/rectangle indices of the Pelagos imho.

Large clasps on small wrists should have fewer links at the 6 o’clock than on the 12 o’clock. It will center much better and hang less.
