One of my friends expected I'd want a 4runner since I previously owned small sedans, Subarus and a Jeep Liberty. But i picked the Tacoma. I wanted a bed to put in mountain bikes, camping gear and coolers plus I tow a pop up. I did get a Double cab even though I'm a single guy. I'm 5ft 11 also and I hit my knees on the bottom of the steering wheel when I get in, also had to duck to get into it. The 4Runner/Tacoma's are better if you are under 5f 10" tall. I couldn't get used to the 4Runner's cramped space, so I sold it. The Tacoma was about the same amount of space as the 4Runner. The 3.5L in the Tacoma is peppy. Vehicles assembled in Japan are very rare thing in the U.S.A...I think it does make a difference in respect to longevity. With that, I have to go 4Runner. I also like the engine and interior better. But there are several times this year when I definitely could've used a truck bed and my 4Runner wouldn't quite have enough space. I will say that I'm a little disappointed in the softness of the paint and the interior plastics used on the 5th Gens. My 4th Gen was better in regards to that.

I have both current models & for my applications I say the Tacoma with a slight edge. More useful mods IMO, better MPGs (not that i care), more HP & torque with OV Tune (no tune for the 4Runner), i can throw wet surf gear or anything wet in the back of the Tacoma without worry or cleaning up (I actually use the bed). Don't get me wrong I really like the 4Runner. But I'd give the Tacoma a slight edge. Waiting for the new Tundra to see what Toyota brings to the table 🤙🏼

If the 4Runner feels a little lazy it because it set for the best gas mileage. You can add a power booster like the "Sprint booster", or others. These are electronic devices that changes the engine timing and the transmission timing, and it take literally five minutes to install. They cost about $300 and they make a huge difference without shortening the life of either.

I’ve spent the last year and some months saving for a new vehicle . At first I took to Facebook marketplace to look at old Chevy s10’s & old Ford rangers. Then I looked more into reliability. Which led me to looking into Toyota’s. I also work with vehicles, so I’ve seen that Toyota’s have truly been one of the vehicles I see with much less problems . I went back and forth between Tacoma’s and 4runners from 2000-2008 . All this time later I’ve got a 2018 Tacoma . Although, I don’t think I would’ve minded if I had found a 4Runner with a better price
@gwot3 жыл бұрын
FYI the "proper" distance from the steering wheel is having your wrist rest on the top of the steering wheel. You are nowhere near that, and your arms are straight in the 4runner when you held the 3 and 9. So if you move your seat forward in the Tacoma, you can sit in the back with a lot more knee space. But Tacoma is the only option for me, manual transmission.
