I earned my BSW then went and got my MSW. I’m a LMSW and only qualify for entry level jobs with low pay since I have no experience. I gave it about 2 years then I went ahead and got my CDL. Kind of wish I made that move earlier and not wasted my money on a social work education.

work is the exchange of time and energy for money period even in something as virtuous as social work.

I seriously needed this. I am about to graduate and I'm already wondering if I'm not cut out for this. I feel so guilty about not doing 'good enough' with the people I work with. I feel so incompetent.

You're not alone in how you're feeling, but you're also probably a lot more "ready" than you might feel. The good news is that a social work degree is never going to be a waste even if you end up doing something else, so there's that! Happy to have a conversation with you about your next steps if you'd like: richsocialworker.com/call.

Yeah! Definitely learned this before I decided to get my degree. We advocate for others and don’t advocate for ourselves! SWers need to stop doing that!

Hey Ms. Forde! Love what you are doing with the channel and I am inspired again. Here in Jamaica, I have worked in the field for about 2 years, and I realize that social workers end up doing sooooooooo much other things in the profession that isnt even our role. I think that the govt and even private institutions are greatly misinformed. For that reason, some of us dont enjoy the profession anymore. I even went into Guidance and counselling for another 2 years...but I had a light bulb moment over the past few days watching you. My place is being a social work entrepreneur.,

I’m no longer a practicing sw as I do more work in sw education and freelance work. However, after some 35 yrs in this profession I have come to the conclusion that whilst this work has given me a somewhat rewarding professional life, the financial rewards have been slim, especially when I consider my level of education, skill and knowledge. I’m making the transition to radio broadcasting and will use the transferable skills I have gained - not sure I will ever be financially rich but have a wealth of experiences lol. Thanks for the video, as usual much food for thought and some actions👍🏾

I’m an LCSW and I think you missed an important point. This profession is historically and traditionally female. Doctors are historically male and they get paid big bucks. The low pay and poor treatment at work is a result of sexism.
