Came over from Honda Passport. This is definitely a truck, passport is a soccer mobile. Added a high flow stock air box, oiless air filter, gas mileage is 22..3-22.8mpg. Replaced stock TRD pro wheels with Method MR703, 17x9/-12mm, stock Nitto tires. The offset helps the 4Runner corner more flatly; high reduction of the “sway” due to the wider track; stance looks good too without pushing to a 33” tire to get even worse mileage.

Perfect video, thanks! Most videos for "first mods" or "cheap mods" are all suspension, metal bumpers, etc mods that aren't cheap, and also not necessary for 99.9% of drivers. I do mild off roading and the stock setup has been flawless, I bet I offroad more than the vast majority of youtubers with those clearance mods (I'm lucky to be in Utah with endless dirt/mountain roads). These are some real world mods that also don't break the bank!

I wanted to comment on the rock sliders that you discuss near the end of the video. I've never been a fan especially if they are bulky enough to lower the contact point of the center of the truck. But, my wife and I are getting older... she's a shorty with lower back problems while I'm 6 foot but I've had 6 spine surgeries, four lower L4-L6, so I plan to get the electronic fold down type. They tuck up nice and clean when not in use and lower down and outward to make getting in and out considerably easier. Not for everybody but they will be a great addition for us.

Snorkel in the dry areas is very useful not for water crossing but against dust and sand. Especially when going by a few cars in the row and using a Cyclone on top of snorkel. It significantly helps keep air filter much clearer. 😉

Interesting, thank you for sharing!!
@jakubgruszczynski4069 Жыл бұрын
That is correct. If your rig gets in the water that deep as to cover almost entirely or most of the engine components, then there is no snorkel in the world that would save you from a disaster. Snorkels were made to gather cleaner air in the dusty environment when riding in the group or to get less dust in the CAI in general.

Great Vid! Rock slider section I would definitely include C4's ones in there. The reason I went with those are that they are angled, giving you maximum clearance but then also have a plate you can option that make a flat step, giving the best of both worlds. This is great especially if you have little ones as it makes it a safer entry platform. You aren't then angled into the car and don't run the risk of having foot go through the tube work. The build quality is second to none, just factor in power coating which can get pricey.

The cargo net came with my 21 T4R ORP I bought a couple of months ago and I absolutely love it!!! Definitely worth having!! My truck has the XP predator package and therefore has the predator steps. For one, I’m 6’2” and don’t need a step, but my main issue is it’s mounted to the body and not the frame. So if you hit them or a car hits them, you’re going to have more damage than if you had sliders that mounted to the frame. I think these “look” ok from a side profile of the truck all together, but that’s relative and they really don’t serve a purpose unless you’re vertically challenged then you may need a step, but I’d imagine most of us don’t. PS: I’m gettin the blackout handle covers but they’re always oos!! Very popular! Last one I did was the Toyota emblem blackout cover on the steering wheel airbag / horn. Now the door handles “chrome” stands out even more since blacking out the steering wheel emblem lol
@VikingsGarage Жыл бұрын

I was thinking of installing a snorkel because I drive on a lot of dirt roads. A snorkel minimizes the amount of dirt hitting my filter. Why are car washes a problem? Real overlanders don't use a car wash. They use mud. A car wash is for those who own a Limited (or the TRD Faux). If I'm faced with going through water that deep, requiring a snorkel, I'll look for another way around. The thermal differential between cold water (especially this time of year) and a hot engine could lead to disaster. Also, if you're going to go through water, you need a way to turn your radiator fan off while submerged. Damage will most likely result to the fan if you don't turn it off.

I vouch for the predator steps. They have saved rocks and sticks jumping up and hitting the lower part of my door panels so many times. Don't even have to worry when I hear a solid "thunk". Most people dont trail these super hard so I doubt it is worth taking them off for rock sliders. I really want a snorkel on my 2022. It improves air quality so much in the amount of dust I am in. I just don't want to do it because it would be super invasive. Kinda want a bull bar, but will eventually get a slimline bumper probably. I just received my set of Meso Customs door handle covers. I ordered them in June from Cali Raised Offroad. It just took forever to get because they were on backorder. Good luck. They fit good, but you can tell the door handles have a little added resistance or wonkiness. I will get the blackout hoodscoop soon, to go with the vinyl I have over the fake hood scoop (helps with sun glare). I should have got the blackout hoodscoop first, because I will have a small gap of paint, but no one will ever see it so whatever. Biggest project is converting my mirrors to the premium ones, where you get turn signals and whatnot. Will get a mirror that has better blindspot views and an integrated turn signal. I probably need to do a build video when I get my suspension done.

Be careful with the "Rocksliders". They are only considered true rocksliders if they are bolted or welded directly to your frame. The picture first shown was of a pair of steps that looked like sliders, but were the ones you bolt to the body of the vehicle. Anything bolted to the body should NEVER be used as a true rockslider when it comes to wheeling or lifting the SUV from. Just pay attention and know what you want, I'm sure those steps first displayed were made to look cosmetically like actual rocksliders, but they have no practical function compared to actually rocksliders other than being a step for occupants.

Unfortunately, my truck came with the "Predator" (laugh every time I read that) steps. They scraped several times off-rad, you lose ground clearance, and they do nothing to protect the truck - totally useless IMO. Replaces them with Westcott sliders.
