my obgyn said the insertion wouldn’t hurt at all - it then proceeded to be the worst pain i’ve ever felt in my life thus far. I felt nauseous and couldn’t even stand because i was shaking so bad. I’m terrified to get it out but this video made me feel better. I wish we had sweeter obgyn’s like you

I had the same experience... It was the worst pain ever. If I knew that, I wouldn't have decided to get it. My cervix is now traumatized - it's extremely sensitive. I'm so scared for taking it out, especially that my strings are not visible.

I was also told that it would be painless and experienced a large amount of pain. I was also told that there would be no change to my monthly cycle (I was getting it for birth control and was asking what to expect after insertion). It's been 5 years and I'm scared to have it removed. This video helped a ton!

Same. The insertion was uncomfortable and I can handle pain pretty well. The cramping after insertion was mind boggling. I had to lock my office door at work and lay on the floor writhing in pain. Two days in a row. I thought I was going to pass out and throw up from the pain.

I’ve had the copper IUD for a week and am getting it taken out bc the cramps are killing me. Almost crying and hurts to move. Getting it put in was the most painful thing I have ever experienced, I passed out on the way home in the middle of crying in pain. Update: I got it taken out after 5 days of having it. Again, excruciating pain. 20 mins on the way home I was having a full on panic attack and couldn’t relax any part of my body bc I was in so much pain. After laying on a heating pad at home for about 10 minutes the 5 day pain was completely gone. I’ve heard it doesn’t hurt nearly as bad to take it out for some people. Looking back, it was horrible and I’d never recommend it to anybody just bc of that traumatic experience. The dr who took it out was very rough with my body when she opened my legs, didn’t give me a warning and just ripped it out and I was screaming in pain and said something along the lines of “hope you feel better have a good day”then walked out. I could hardly walk to the car. My husband was there every step of the process thankfully. They really need to knock us ladies out before inserting them.

First IUD I had was Skyla. It was amazing! I got a very light period probably once every 3 months. Little to no symptoms. When I went in to get it replaced, they told me Skyla wasn't available so I got Kyleena. When they took Sklya out, I cramped right away and It didn't go away for like 10 minutes. The doctor told me to push through so she could place in Kyleena. I really don't like Kyleena. My symptoms have become worse, I have chronic migraines now and varied symptoms every month. I guess the only good thing is that my period is regular. I know exactly when it's coming. Getting this removed tomorrow, I'm so ready! 🙌

I understand and i can only tell you what i would do... First time it was horrible for you coz u didn't expect it... There are big chances it will not happen because your body will go back to the state it was before, my two friends took iud out coz they were very depressed with it and felt such a release when it was out, they disnt experience a crash... They both said that maybe the were feeling like that with iud coz it was not fitting to get more progesterone and as soon as they got it out they felt like their old self... Idk if that is true.. but i do think its much harder when u are not prepared... When you know something could happen u can handle it better than the first time... Stock up a mont before with all the nutriants, vitamins, food, walks... Prepare your body and mind and face it... I believe in you and you can do it! Thats what i will do.. big chances that the fear was for nothing and we will just experience relief! 🎀 Good luck u got this

Hi Jaylin, I'm so sorry to hear that! Definitely check in with your provider to have a more thorough evaluation done to rule out an infection or structural abnormality of your pelvis, a pelvic ultrasound would be helpful. I had the IUD in for 6 years, removed it and got pregnant 6months later, but ended up in an ectopic. Lost my right fallopian tube...and the only tube left is blocked. Tried some things here and there, but Dr told me only option is IVF...

I think these practitioners should stop talking about whether women will experience pain or not. It is entirely subjective. Insertion of Mirena 5+ years ago was easy peasy. Very fast and I couldn’t even feel it. I just had it removed two hours ago and holy smokes! She could not see my IUD strings. It took her 4 attempts to get it out with forceps, graspers and a hook. It stung, was kinda painful and felt like heavy cramps. It was unpleasant but also not terrible. Also you must see your IUD when it comes out. That’s very important. You need to see that the procedure was done properly and nothing was left behind.

So now I am freaking out, tomorrow I have to go and have a ultrasound done to see if the broken piece is still in my body and where. @LG777.mother

I believe you can have it removed any time if you choose so or if something is wrong. I believe the doctor usually has you come back shortly after insertion to make sure it’s in right place and make sure no bad side effects etc. I also remember the first few weeks or months some ppl do have cramps or abnormal bleeding but it’s considered normal, it’s different for everyone like our bodies react differently takes a bit to get “used to it”. I recall having crazy cramps but nothing bizarre, didn’t last long, and I used to get cramps as a child (when first had my period) so again I felt it’s my own body getting used to changes. All this to say you can choose to do what ever you want but talk to doctor and talk to friends or family that had similar procedure to compare what is expected. Everyone is a little different, but it’s nice to know you are not alone if you not feeling 💯 Hope all is well.

Hi Dian, there is no need to wait, it can be started right away. Severe cramps is a side effect of the copper IUD and most likely will resolve when removed.
