I'm on day two of my cycle. The state health insurance here is terrible and I've had such difficulty making an appointment for removal. I just sat on my toilet after reading and watching this. I grabbed the string, bared down a bit and slowly pulled it out!! Ever so slight cramp, virtually painless and my body felt INSTANT RELIEF!. I was prepared to go to Dr if complications came up. I am soo happy!! ❤

There are women are doing it themselves because they are going MANIC from unlisted side effects like copper toxicity and their providers are pressuring them to keep it, won't get them in for months, in or refuse removal. The side effects and risks are not being disclosed to patients in an honest way.

I did a bit of research (not much tbh) and pulled mine out this morning. It was easy and painless. My uterus sits at an acute angle so I was a bit nervous. It took a few minutes to locate both threads but fortunately they were quite long so I gripped them and pulled very slowly whilst bearing down a bit. It’s free for removal in the UK but I had been waiting more than two years to get it removed. Every time I went to the doctor he gave me another excuse as to why I couldn’t have it removed. The last time I went he said I might get pregnant. I’m 54, post menopause and my partner had the snip over ten years ago. I have lost all faith in the NHS over the last few years.

Not a doctor. Just telling you what I know from reading up on it and watching KZbin vids and what I did with that information. Took mine out today. I learned that it’s better to wait till right before the period starts or during your period so that the cervix is lower and the strings are more reachable. There’s a risk for sure, but I was thinking about that the pain of it being in than the pain of doing it wrong. But iud was intact and now I have zero pain. I had a bit of cramping while I was pulling it out. But no more. But my strings were hard to grasp, I had to squat and I put my thumb and pointer finger in together to grasp( it was difficult but successful). I’m very glad it’s out. No more pain!!

OMG!!! I just took mine out after 3 years! Did it In less than 1 minute. I have been trying for months to get an appointment or even to get someone to look at but unsuccessful each time. Today I finally found a place, called first, they told me to come in. So i took the day off. Just to get there and the Receptionist told me, "sorry too many people came in after you called, we can't accpet you today, come back another time". I was just done with the whole hassle. On my way back home, I thought let me just Google this and see if there's a DIY. Found this video, watched it and read some comments. Went into the bathroom, sat on the toilet seat, washed my hands, inserted a finger, felt around and the finally located the string. Inseted my index finger and my thumb. It was a Very short string. Tried grabbing it but my fingers were slippery. Then I pushed down as though giving birth and grabbed the string, pulled gently and out it came!!!! Just a little bit of discomfort as though it were a cramp. Very easy! Felt immediate relief! TG for KZbin and all the comments from all the brave women on here. Y'all rock!!!!

I've had 3 days of excruciating cramps that have left me rolling around on my bed unable to really do much. Since I'm on my period, I just figured they were especially bad menstrual cramps. Due to being on blood thinners, couldn't take any pain meds. So today I felt a surge of blood come out and started to wonder if my womb is trying to push out my IUD. Decided to feel around with my finger and sure enough: could feel that the strings were waaaaayyyyy longer than they should have been. Called the emergency health advice number and asked whether I should just try and pull it all the way out. They consulted the gyno clinic while I waited for more instructions. They said it's ok to try and remove it myself, BUT if things get worse after this: bad pains, bad bleeding, bloating of my abdomen, fever etc, basically anything appears to be an infection, I need to go to the docs. So, right after the call, sat on the toilet, took a firm grip of the strings and tugged it out. The IUD was encased in a huge blood clot, no wonder my body was trying to push it out!! Felt immediately better after that and the cramps stopped right away. This is now my second attempt at using an IUD and I guess my body just isn't built for using them. I know many women love them though. What a shame, since the main reason I had one put in was to control heavy blood loss due to being on blood thinners.

I told myself that if I took it out, I’d comment, so here I am😭😂 I am 20 years old. I’ve had the Kyleena IUD for 4 1/2 years! I called several places including my OBGYN. Every single appointment I made & went to they always came up with a reason to not take it out. & I am dead serious😭 every clinic, office, urgent care within a 50 mile radius of me turned me down. When I got the IUD in I specifically remember my doctor telling me that it needed to be taken out 6 months prior to the 5 year mark. Well due to COVID every other place that I tried calling could only get me in 2-3 months later and that is why I landed on this side of KZbin😂. I removed it myself about 30 minutes ago & I did feel a slight pinch but definitely was bearable. I was shaking & very scared but I took a deep breath! I’m currently laying down and I’m gonna take it easy the rest of the night. Of course I’ll go to the ER if anything were to occur but honestly I feel 110% times better. It’s almost like I got this huge relief off my shoulders and I feel so much happier. I’ll be 21 in 4 months but my boyfriend and I are ready for another baby! (Of course im gonna wait a week until my body adjusts since I had that thing in for so long!) We already have a 5 year old and we’re emotionally/financially ready. Although I don’t recommend doing it yourself, but just wanting to share my experience/situation. Prayers to all the women out there that have that device in place!

WTF? Do they think I am going to be talked out of removing it? I have had that in for 12 years! It is at the end of it's functional life! And I have been taking about it for years! After removing it, it appears to be in one piece and I only have a little cramping. I have just starting my period, I think that made it easier. I’ve removed two IUD’s from myself. No, I did not “reinstall” the same one. All that’s involved is slowly pulling the strings and as long as there’s never any pain you’re good. Be sure to make sure all the “pieces” of the IUD is removed, simply look at photos of the brand you had inserted online and compare.

My insurance doesnt cover voluntary IUD removal. What I mean by that is that if I wanted to get pregnant, I have to pay my OBGYN $135 to remove it because the only times my insurance will cover removal is if it breaks, slips or moves, causes infection, or if the IUD runs its course and I need a new one. Right now on my husband and my Budget Inn, I can't afford $125 to remove my IUD period I would like the option to be able to do so myself.

I just removed my second Mirena IUD on my own yesterday. I had the first IUD for 5 years and removed it within 10 minutes. Felt a few cramps but came out easily. The second IUD I had for one year. I tried to remove it about two weeks ago and it wouldn't budge. I couldn't get a good grip of the strings and they kept slipping out of my fingers. I stopped trying and waited until I started my period when my cervix was more open, soft and low. This time I had more string to grab and gently pulled and it came out with zero pain in just a few minutes. So relieved it is out of me! Will never be on hormonal birth control again after all the symptoms I had with the Mirena IUDs!

I always thought when you paid to have one put in whether your insurance covered it or you pay out of pocket that the price was including insertion/removal meaning that their shouldn't be any additional charge for removal as long as you had it removed by the same practice that inserted it. Actually I quite remember that being a selling point to mine by my medical provider. Regardless of whether you want it out a month or five years later I thought removal was included in the price and that could be done anytime for any reason by the patient

I could feel it coming out tho but that just told me to keep going. it wasn't as painful as it was getting it in, it wasn't painful at all for me just a small cramp. I wonder why I didn't just do it sooner, bc there's so many people telling you not to do it... But I don't have insurance or extra money to have planned parenthood charge me for removing it. A reason some women are removing them themselves is because they're being gaslit by their own doctors. I was in the emergency room with cramping a few months ago and the ER doctor told me having my paraguard IUD in for 8 years is a stretch [even though i was told i could have it for upto 12 years initially] & could be causing my pain, yet she refused to remove it.... just gave me pain medication. So I just removed it myself in the end and I regret ever having one put in, I'd had abdomainal and period type cramps with heavy bleeding for years since having it but every doctor talked me into not removing it. Im about to squat in the shower and pull mine out. I have had it for a month and 2 weeks now and I’ve had my period everyday day since. My period has still not stopped along with painful cramps and migraines. So painful I would lay in a fetal position most days even after taking 200 mg of Tylenol. I also noticed I’ve become very lethargic, I wouldn’t say I’m full blown depressed but since insertion im very down and I don’t feel like myself. Before I would jog 4 days a week and exercise for 5 days. I’ve worked out about 3 times last month. My acne got worse and is purging across my forehead and cheeks - I had just got my acne under control before insertion and the IUD completely eliminated all the progress I made with my skin. I know that the adjustment period is between 1-6 months but I can’t imagine doing this for another 4 months. I also would get painful cramps after having sex which was very strange. Sometimes I would get cramps from standing up too quickly or lifting heavyweights. It’s just been too difficult for me. If I wasn’t in a relationship I would wait it out but then again what’s the point of getting an IUD if you’re not having sex? 😂 I’ve tried being positive about this whole situation and if I could name one positive thing during my time with Mirena is that I felt nothing during insertion which is very rare. I even asked my gyno if she was sure she put that sucker in and she was very puzzled and surprised I didn’t feel anything. TMI: I lost my virginity a month before getting my IUD soooo I went in prepared to feel labor pains lol but nothing. That’s the only positive thing I can think of other than that-wish me luck!

Basically my body tried to expel it. Very traumatizing! I only lasted a month with the IUD. I’m sticking to the calendar method these days.

@@alanisc9439 omg that sounds scary! I actually tugged very lightly on my strings and it hurt so I stopped there. But getting an appointment to get it out has become so complicated when I just want it out now! I’m gonna go back to my Tempdrop + condoms.

@@alanisc9439 Did you have any lasting repercussions from the IUD? Mine is the copper Mona Lisa…

I have to go through a surgery to remove it bc my doctor couldn’t see it. Never get IUD again. Is a painful experience like having a child birth.
