A short walk from Elizabeth Fort is The Red Abbey, the central bell tower of an Augustinian Friary (founded in the 13th century) that is the oldest surviving structure in Cork. Nano Nagle Place has a lovely cafe and is well worth a visit. The namesake matriarch founded a school to educate the poor, mostly Catholic children of Cork in the 1700s and went on to found the Preservation Sisters, who now have schools worldwide. The grounds of University College Cork are worth a visit. The art gallery has a nice cafe and an interesting collection. The main quad is very Hogwarts-esque. Make time to visit Fota House (about halfway between Cork and Cobh). It is truly spectacular. The Crawford Gallery in Cork is home to the Canova Casts, plaster casts of marble statues from the Vatican's collection. The rest of the collection is outstanding. If visiting Blarney Castle, be sure to visit the Poison Garden on the grounds and the woolen mill nearby.

Is there an easy way to get to the City Gaol from the train station? We'll be in Cobh on a cruise port stop so we will be walking or doing transit
