Every Irish person I met as a Cape Town tour guide told me I " must see Ireland before I die". That kept me alive in 2017 in ICU with a pulmonary embolism. It makes you think about life. I realized I can't die Yet I said to my doctor as I haven't seen Ireland. 2018 I had a fantastic 3 week holiday in Ireland and a whole new group of friends from the friendliest county in the world.

@@rowanexplores5255: Great video, great info, however, just some friendly info from you Irish-American brother, Christopher Columbus never discovered North America, he landed in the Bahamas, Cuba and Central America, then made his way slowly back to Spain. The Native Americans here in the states are always telling their stories that they've been here 1000's of years before the whites, but scientists are starting to discover ancient skeletons from whites that date back further than the Native's claims. One resource I found VERY interesting was; 'Expedition Unknown' (with Josh Gates) and he travels the world like a modern day 'Indiana Jones' looking for the truth about our history. He has a great show you can purchase on KZbin with many many seasons and episodes. Very informing. My wife, daughter, our mother's and I traveled to Ireland in 2008 to research my Mom's family history (Ballyferriter), traveled the Ring Of Kerry, small communities and towns and we LOVED it. Our Mom's were on top of the world when we took them there. They have since sadly passed away, but my wife and I hope to one day travel back and spend more time around Dingle again. 🙂👍

Dingle is magical. My daughter, an Irish step dancer had the opportunity to dance at a concert at St. James in the Summer of 2016. Eoin Duignan was kind enough to welcome audience participation. Wonderful concert!

I remember Ryan’s Daughter very well. A wonderful must watch movie at the time. I was hoping to see the church that Amy Winehouse did a concert in a magnificently beautiful candle filled scenario. It was very small and whitewashed so probably very humble. It was a wonderful documentary of the concert but why THAT church & why Dingle I asked myself. @@glenturney4750 With all due respect, there is no such thing as 100% Irish, for the most part. The Irish have a rich & long standing history & with that also came other ethnic groups that came & went, as applies to most of our world & with that happening, meant that Irish DNA could not be 100% pure. The English, the Gaels/Celts (Germanic groups who btw, are the "true" Celts) the Normans (Northern French), the Spanish, the Romans (Italians), the Scandinavians & numerous other ethnic groups had historic connections to Ireland & with the Irish. Over much time, they all intermingled genetically, albeit, some more so than others & they all left behind, their genetic legacies. This "is" so often "verified" via countless Irish DNA results, which I would kindly suggest you check out. You may find it all very interesting, as I certainly did. Fun fact......Almost ALL humans globally, are much more ethnically diverse than they'd ever believe or even know & countless global DNA tests (including countless Irish) are so well verifying this. Once again, If you google "Irish DNA results" you'll come to see that all of the Irish, but a very few, are actually 100% Irish. Even those who are 100% Irish, may well "only" be 100% Irish, because both of their parent must have been well over 50% Irish, hence their child inheriting all of their Irish DNA from their 50% handed down to their offspring) but who knows what their "other" 50% that their child didn't inherit say? Only very rarely, are both parents ever 100% Irish, as we're all mixed ethnically to some degree. We all receive "only 50%" of our DNA from both of our parents & what this means is, that it's possible to inherit DNA from numerous European or global regions, as DNA inheritance is completely "random". We must also consider 2 other important factors here & they are..... Genetic recombination & genetic methylation. The only way to verify that a parent is 100% of anything, is to have their DNA tested, otherwise one cannot simply "assume" that they're 100% Irish or anything else. What we may "think" we are, may not @ all be true, but a DNA test will surely verify much more regarding our true ancestry, but even then, a DNA test isn't 100% accurate. This is because it's a continually evolving science, but so far as "current" science is concerned, it's much more accurate than simply believing old family narratives or simply believing in something that may not even be 100% accurate. Prior to global man made borders being created, humans across all continents came & went, they crossed paths & they often had children together & where we've been told our ancestors came from, may not always be conclusively 100% correct. I'm part Irish/Scottish/Germanic/Scandinavian myself & I used to think that my Great-Grandparents were all 100% Irish, until we had their DNA test taken before they passed & we know very well, that we were very fortunate to retrieve DNA from them, as they're of the earlier generation & got to live lengthy lives, right up, until DNA testing became available to the general public. What I found out was truly astonishing, as both of my G-Grandparents were a combination of numerous ethnic groups & not only Irish. This is just something for you to keep in mind.

My wife and I just returned from Ireland on a pilgrimage of visiting old friends and tracking down some family along the way. We spent 2 weeks visiting many places along the way starting in Dublin and visiting fantastic locations like Aherlow to visit some friends. Then on to Abbyfeale for another visit with another old friend. We then moved on to Dingle (Loved it) and we explored many of the places you showed in this video. From there we went up to Doolin with a stop for lunch in Listowel with our friend from Abbeyfeale. We were hoping for the Cliffs of Moher but it was wet and stormy but had a great time with a great dinner at Fiddle & Bow and some great Irish music at the local pubs. From Doolin we traveled up to Gallway to again see some more old friends of ours and again had a really great visit and spent some time walking this fantastic city. We then traveled into Clifden where we stayed at a B&B and really enjoyed our host at the Shanakeever Farm - Bed & breakfast. From Clifden our goal was to find my wifes 2nd cousin in Cloghbrack. On the way we stopped in and walked the amazing Kylemore Abby and then onto Leenaun and veered off onto the R336. From there my wife had me turn at the L1301 into the highlands towards Loch Na Fooey. I literally asked her "What have you got me into this time", it was so off the beaten path but I'm so glad we did. What a beautiful drive that was with vistas at every turn and a truly amazing drive. Our destination was Clonbur where my wife last met her 2nd cousin from Cloghbrack some 38 years earlier on a trip with her parents. She showed me the hotel they stayed at and the pub across the street from all those years ago. Now my wife had no contact information for her cousin but from a tip from a local we went into the pub and asked the woman behind the bar if they knew her cousin or if any of the family were still in the area and amazingly she did know of them. My wife asked for directions to their house but she said "have a seat and I'll call him". She came back 5 minutes later said "John will be here in 10 minutes". Can you believe that!? I was speechless. Well in 10 minutes John walked in and we had an amazing visit with him and my wife was ecstatic and so happy. We went onto Gong and stayed the night there. On a tip from our host in Cong he said the only way to see Ashford Castle was to either book a room, book dinner or walk in after hours as the castle is now a privet hotel and not open to the general public. We walked in that night (Amazing!) and the next day had tea at the tea house and walked the outside areas. If anyone goes just tell the guard at the gate that your going in for tea. He actually was quite nice and said...several times before I got the point - "Your going in for tea right?" and he let us pass. After some tea and a walk we drove all the way back across the country to Maynooth just outside Dublin and spent our last night in Ireland at the Glenroyal Hotel (we highly recommend this hotel and absolutely book a dinner reservation in their restaurant). We flew off to London the next day and spent the next 3 days in Wales with our good friend from home and her family. I can't say enough about this great country and next time I will be visiting my ancestral home up in Donegal.

Oh fantastic, just fantastic!!! This is really interesting, educational & beautiful viewing all around. I'm so very excited & really looking forward to seeing Ireland for the first time, end of this year (Irish Winter). I've longed to see Ireland in person for many years now, so finally, my dream will come to fruition. This video has really helped me to know where to go & to know what to do, while I'm in Dingle. Dingle is very beautiful & incredibly picturesque. So much so, that it appears storybook/fairytale beautiful, looking from varying angles. I'll miss not seeing Fungie the dolphin, but I believe he swims near the coast in spirit & I'll imagine seeing him there. There's so much to see & do in Dingle, that I plan to spend approx 3 to 4 nights there, just to take it all in, specifically the incredible coastal & mountain scenery. It will be very verdant & most likely cloudy/misty on/off when I'm there, so that will really "add" to the regional beauty. Thanks for sharing with your viewers.

Damn, I went on a full tour of the Penninsula with my family when I was around 12. This video brings back so many memories it feels surreal. Such an increadible region that fully encapsulates the immense beauty of this country. We stayed up at John Benny's and would walk to the aquarium every evening. We're going back this year and I couldn't be more excited now that I have a better eye for the historical contexts of these places

fantastic video really informative and you capture the essence of the locations beautifully...I came to Dingle with my 11 year old son in 2011 and we went out on a short 2 hour fishing trip and saw Fungie...he came to every single boat and delighted everyone...he wasn't even after food we tried to give him some mackeral and he wasn't interested he just seemed to enjoy meeting humans...I was so sad when I heard he'd disappeared coz I knew what that meant.

Hey Rowan, Paul from Tampa Florida here. Enjoyed your video, and the history of the surrounding towns. My fathers mother was born in Dingle, 1878, and sailed the boat across the big pond when she was just one year old with her mom and dad. Great video. Have enjoyed Dingle peninsula on 3 trips to Ireland. My favorite places are Inch Beach and its dunes along with Mt. Brandon. The view from the summit is spectacular. As an American driving on the left side of the road going up Conner Pass gave me great pause but everyone cooperates and it can be done quite safely.

We skipoed the Temple Bar, even though we stayed in the TB District; we were staying at the Harding Hotel, so I got my pint at Darkey Kelly's, in Fishamble Street. We had intended to go to the Gravity Bar atop the Storehouse but found out the hard way that it CLOSES at 6 p.m., The Book of Kells, itself, was open to a very mundane page: none of the illumination it's famous for. Still, we got to see the Long Room, whichbwe would have regretted, had we not seen it. The other touristy thingbwe did, was the Cliffs of Mohr, and I was able to find the approximate location of the camera that filmed Fezzik and company, scalingbtge Cliffs of Insanity, in "The Princess Bride". I wore my new Inigo Montoya t-shirt, for that one!
