Hello! This video is meant for those who are learning aerial hoop, it is not an instructional video, it is more to help people remember the names we use and more of a reminder. I have put in the notes that it is best to attend lessons with a professional and not try this on your own as it is dangerous. I uploaded this video as I couldn't find anything like this when I was learning and it would have helped me so thought why not try and help others :o)

Ran out of space... The course is put together for professional fitness instructors. Mainly pole dancers as most have the strength to start with, they attend a weekend course then have up to a year to complete the exam which is to teach an aerial hoop lesson and they are marked on it. They also need to be able to demonstrate each move to show they are able to safely excute each move to a high standard. I really enjoyed the courses and they were a couple of the best courses I have attended xx

Thanks for this! Very thorough. Just a tip for those watching: make sure your hands (while holding the lyra) are brought directly under the point before mounting. This will prevent it from swinging. The further from the point, the more you will get the unwanted swinging.

HI- I started taking aerial classes at the age of 39. I have no dance or gymnastics background, its definitely more difficult for me and takes longer to learn new moves than those who have that background, having said that if I can learn it- you can too! BTW I'm doing it because it so much fun and have no intention of performing!

Never fails to amaze me that people accept aerial instructors who have attended a weekend workshop in hoop, and then begin to teach. Thats not a dig at you Emily, just a general comment. I'm actually more amazed that someone would run that workshop in the first place. Unless of course they are an renowned expert.....and I very much doubt an expert would be flogging 'aerial hoop instructor courses' to pole dance studios.

Hi. Do you think its possible for an adult who doesnt have a background in gymnastics or anything involving flexibility, to learn this? I know that most people who do this stuff started when they were small children. I know it would definitely be very hard and take lots of practice, but do you know of adults who have learned from scratch? (I'm 20 if it matters) I dont want to be a professional, just for fun and good exercise.

itscat92 I started at 47 with no previous gymnastic experience, except tumbling as a kid, though I have always been very active, do yoga, hiking, rollerblading and Irish dance, which is rather athletic. I also do flying trapeze, which I started at 46. Flexibility and core and arm strength can be worked on.

Hey Abby! It does seem a bit nuts but I think the idea around it is to educate people safe practice, not to become an aerialist over night. I really admire what aerialists can do and I know I still have a lot to learn, I teach what I know in a safe environment. I'd rather teach my students safely then them go somewhere else who doesn't (there is still a lot of un-safe practice going on in the pole world as you can imagine!). xx
