This is exactly what I did to my bolt to smooth it out. I took it a step further and did a 3 step jewelers polish to it, creating a mirror finish on the ramp and firing pin. It's really helped a ton with the movement introduced to the rifle when cycling the bolt.

I did the same and after a few thousand rounds thru my b14r, I saw wear marks on the bolt body and polished those areas and the washer between the bolt body and bolt head. Super buttery smooth now.

Just picked a b14r. Action is smooth as silk. Going to let it naturally break in as far as the closing of the bolt tightness goes.

This Begerra B14r looks just like the Bergara B14r.

Thanks for the info!! I really need to do this to mine.

Be very careful that you don’t remove to much metal material or it could fire off a round when you close the bolt . It’s definitely a job for a Gunsmith . Best to send to Kenny so he can do it for you .

Great video series on the B14r. Can't wait to see your finished results! I love my B14r, and this particular step is very interesting to smooth that bolt some (though over time, it seems better and better on its own). What steps did you take wit h a Dremel? I hesitate attempting to take away any metal, but maybe just a polishing wheel and some Flitz or JB Bore Paste to smooth it out?

So i have 2 bergara rifles. One is 6.5cm and the other is 7 rem mag. The magnum bolt comes apart easily using a 1.5mm allen but the short wont. The allen is too big when ive seen other people use it and it worked. Oh well i just thought it was strange my shot always seems to be a little off😂 ill use a paperclip

I would imagine the intent of the sharp transition is to make it less likely that the bolt handle is accidentally opened slightly after chambering a round.

No..... its just easier to machine rather than using a 5 axis or second operation setup

What are your thoughts on polishing the area that bears on the part you polished? Are there safety concerns with that?

Maybe radiusing the cocking piece instead?

I would not do that

Kinda sucks that you have to do that, but great info.

Can anyone explain to me, why Bergara has this two step bolt lift? I don't get it - neither do I like it.... Can it be modified?

Yes, you don't want accidental discharge

You said the newer B14R felt better out of the box over the older one, so does that indicate that Bergara has addressed the issue on the newer guns and this is no longer really needed to obtain a smooth bolt lift/close?
@EagleEyeShooting2 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately no, thiers still a significant amount of unnecessary bolt feel when locking down the handle. What I'm able to do is move the bolt lug engagement of the handle more at 2:30 position vs 1 o'clock to give you more mechanical force as well as polish up the surfaces. This makes it feel more smoother under normal bolt manipulation.

My bergara w/ tenex won’t extract unfired cartridge from chamber. Does yours extract unfired round?

Would be even smoother if you would put a little grease on the ramp.
@EagleEyeShooting2 жыл бұрын
I would assume so. Since I live in a dusty desert, I personally cannot run grease in my rifles
