Another one from PBRUD - THANK YOU! Dan explains to the audience how he strings a guitar for certain songs including this cover of George Harrison's I Need You performed Live September 8, 1997 at Sokol Blosser Winery in Portland Oregon. He also talks about George's contributions to The Beatles. Don't you know that Dan and George are creating beautiful music together now? Yes, they are.

George Harrison was such a great UNDER APPRECIATED songwriter in his own right. Fogelberg was and is highly UNDER rated in every regard! How fitting then, that he does a cover of Harrison's "I need you". Beautifully done, Dan could reach into your soul and grab your heart like few musicians could. You are sorely missed.

You posted this 14 years back, and I found it tonight...10/24/22 But as a native American there really isn't such a thing as "time" Not in my people's Way. I lived across from Dan in Colorado. A beautiful person. I also believe that when a "thing"appears it's when it's supposed to. So thank you for sharing this beautiful bit of Dan with us.✌️💖 Post script... George Harrison was my favorite. His writing and soul is beautiful.

Dan could make any guitar sound magical! I love listening to him just messing around with a melody while talking with the crowd.Could sit for hours just watching him play the guitar.God,he was awesome!A lovely tune, one hell of a gut wrenching song! The tears are swelling inside of me. Thanks for the post, Donna. Means the world to me.I saw him in concert in 2002, and this brings back such special memories of that night. Thank you PBRUD, for your generous contribution for making this possible.

My friend Jamye walked in, it was 1979. "Nancy I've got tickets to see Dan Fogelberg in Austin, 2nd ROW! Come with me!" I said, "Oh I've got studying to do and..." She stopped me and said: "BUT NANCY YOU SAY SPONTANEOUS TRAVEL SUGGESTIONS ARE GIFTS FROM GOD!" My eyes grew wide, I put away my college books and replied: "Who AM I to reject a GIFT from GOD?" We went to OzTown where I heard him sing, and harmonized with him when he cut the house lights and had 1000 of us sing with him "A Place In The World For A Gambler"--and we met after the concert. He came over to me and told me that in the darkness, he saw me. He said, "Lady--whoever you are you must be some kinda Saint or something--for in the darkness I saw you--YOU SHINE A LIGHT." Truth of the matter is? I was glowing in the dark because I was singing with Dan Fogelberg!

This one made me cry and I keep playing it over and over. What a giant gap he left in our hearts; even though listening to the music seems to fill it somewhat, I wish I could just see him perform one more time...

I needed to stop by and visit Beggarsgame. I needed some sparkle in my life and knew this would fix the situation.I love the way he plays!! Why did this man's music affect me so much? Noone else's music, came close to the feelings that I have, except for the Beatles songs.I felt I had found a kindred spirit within Dan, and not so much with the Beatles as individuals.I am the moth to Dan's flame, and what a flame it is!! Thank god,he was in our lives!

Just a quick note on this one: I've been keeping a guitar Nashville strung for a many years now, something I'd picked up off Ellis Paul. When I first heard Dan's version of this, I ran downstairs, tuned up to pitch and learned it note for note. It was a magic moment, like stepping back into the '70's when I'd play a cut off Homefree or Souvenirs over and over to learn it... So this song was an exceptional gift from above for me. I hope it will inspire other players out there, too.

It's called Nashville tuning. If you listen to The Rolling Stones' Wild Horses it is a great example of that tuning used most prominently.

Maybe he has a muse that came to him in his dreams who inspired much of his music? He was such a spiritual man that it was likely his inspiration was diivnely inspired. What better way to reach him than through a woman who consistently was in his dreams.

So if you have a 12 string guitar and remove 6 strings (one from each of the 6 pairs) then it would sound like a Nashville tuned guitar?
