After the battery is turned on, you can safely turn on the inverter. • Connect the solar panel wires at night. This will ensure that you are never handling high voltage. • The 24V battery can only output 2400W! And the 48V battery can output 4800W. I should have mentioned this. If you need more output capacity, you need to add more batteries in parallel. • If you wish to add another battery, connect it in parallel with a second set of battery cables (google search "parallel battery connection"). You simply connect the positive of one battery to the positive of the other. And negative to negative. • If you have more than 3 batteries, you should add a T-Class Fuse. This is a special type of fuse that will disconnect power regardless of how many batteries you have connected. Connect all of your batteries in parallel, then connect the positive wire to a t class fuse. Then connect the other end of the t class fuse to the all in one system. • If you have to put your solar panels in parallel groups (to keep the voltage down), you can avoid the use of a combiner box by using inline MC4 fuses. They take seconds to install and will protect your array from problems. Furthermore, use a MC4 branch adapter (any will do) to connect the parallel strings together. • Be sure to use the solar panel calculator (listed in video description as well) to calculate what voltage your solar panels will produce. This is the only difficult part of this system. Every solar panel has a different voltage, and how you wire them up will change their voltage. Hi Will, wanted to say thanks for all the very informative solar set up system videos you are doing. By watching and doing some wiring research I was able to put together a small system in my 4x4 for a very remote overland trip. I gota 360 watts 24 V solar panel with a MPPT 50/25, to charge a Lithium 12v battery, overall I was able to source the right cables and set it up myself. I have this exact same system with 5200ah battery bank. I been running most of my house loads with it. Installed it back in March as it's been running flawlessly. I addad a subpanel and it's powering all of my second floor bedrom light and outlets, my bonus room lights and outlets including my main TV and DTV, Main bedroom and bath, kitchen lights, fridge and chest freezer. If the batteries go low it will then connect to the grid to power my load while charging the battery bank just enough until the sun come out. Electric bill cutted in half.

@@TK-123 Hey TK. I would not call grid tie system since I am not sending any power excess to the grid. The Growatt is connected to a grid powered outlet to recharge batteries and power the loads in case the batteries go low. Once the sun is out or the batteries get to a specific SOC it disconnects from the grid and starts powering my loads from the batteries and/or sun. And yes all of my second floor is powered by the inverter and then some more rooms as I mentioned in my first posts. Like I said, I only have a few months and I love it. It also give you a peace of mind that I am going to have power in case the grid goes down and my neighbor won't. And cheap as Will said.

Solar technology has changed so fast, the simplicty and cost are amazing for what you are getting vs just 1 Year ago. PVT panels with a heat pump and a heat storage tank is the more promising technology for every 700 watts of electricity on top of that you can get up to 2 kilowatts of heat

I know there are air to water heat pumps where you can connect second source of heat from a water well or pvt panels and the heat pump automatically would choose the most efficient way to heat a house . They claim their product 40 percent more efficient than just an air source heat pump. But you can not buy them in the US in Europe they are too expensive so ....I am not an engineer and just throw some stuff on the back of my mind so my brain eventually would produce some useful decisions

I have tried to "figure out" the spiderweb of cables and blinking lights and multiple panels, etc for SO LONG and had (until NOW, THANK YOU,) given up on ever wanting to try solar. The Growatt 3000w version is amazing. Such a great deal for RV power systems since it includes a 60A+ battery charger. The only 2 downsides is not a very clear state of charge meter and buying a dc to dc converter for 12v appliances.

This is the perfect setup for what I wanted to do with solar. I don't want to deal with the limitations and regulations my local power provider has in place for grid tie systems, so I was going to do something similar to this with my system and just move some of my devices over from mains power outlets. It may not mean a paycheck from the power company, but it's a way to use solar without having to jump through a million regulatory hoops and limitations for what little I want to power with it. I would just want to have at least 3 times the capacity of the battery for continuous overnight power in the winter in Minnesota.

What I'd personally be really interested in is a low cost, beginner friendly system, that is easily scalable. I think that's where most people get hung up starting out (at least from a residential standpoint); not wanting to make a relatively large investment that they know they're just going to replace not to far in the future. Having some kind of beginner option that's like 2Kw but could be easily scaled up via "plug & play" options to something like 10Kw would get a LOT more people on board (in my opinion at least).

I was seriously considering the new bluetti ac 300 set up but you have me now building my own system. This is a great set up, I am wanting to build an emergency back up system capable of running my refrigerator/freezer, furnace and some lighting. I think I got caught up in the portable set ups for ease of being able to move it. But for the bang for your buck this looks like the way to go plus you can buy components as you go making it easier to afford. Build as you go! Thanks, Great video!

@@johnfoster8226 well,I ended up going with the Ecoflow Delta Max portable unit and 2, 200 watt solar panels. As fate would have it, my permanent place of residence became not so permanent and had to go back with the portable plan. I still think either can be good it just depends on your situation. If you plan on being in one place I still wouldn't hesitate on building a system from scratch, it also depends on your budget and how much you willing to put into it. Batteries are expensive no way around it! Like I said I ended up going with a portable unit and I don't regret it, its still expandable and it just fit my particular situation best!

I had been under the impression that panels are directly connectable for parallel use. Anyway, this is what a lot of people can be doing instead of the expensive grid connected systems. It isn't as powerful, but it costs relatively little.

I think that this this is an inverter. The white box. Or at least that is part of its function. So it may be hard and/or silly to override the main function of the white box. Why do you think it’d be more efficient? Is it because yoh don’t have to convert? These are my thoughts. I am learning and exploring. Hope to hear more of yo thoughts

I have the same basic unit as this. Setting it up is a pain. I would recommend writing down all the values you want to change on the manual, so you don't waste time looking for it, because it is super irritating having to go back into the menu and tapping to get down to the item you want to change. Standby power consumption on mine is about 48w, which is a lot higher than I had anticipated.

A level 2 charger for an EV or a mini split (I live in the desert like Will). Either one might be in the future, since the battery will last a LONG time. But no need now, you can add if you do need in the future.

For beginners to try, there is an even simpler and cheaper way - an unused older UPS 300AV, a car battery 60-100Ah and a cheap photovoltaic polycrystalline panel around 1m2 with a charge controller. You can try it directly on the existing light circuit in the house or apartment - there is no need to run new electrical wires. Do not forget to switch off the light circuit breaker, or best to disconnect the light circuit phase !!! All LED lighting in the apartment can be lit at the same time (more than 300W it certainly will not be if you have LEDs everywhere) and only from the energy of the sun and a small investment. When the beginner realizes it and will be happy that it works, he will already have knowledge of capacity, V and A relationship, power consumption, consumption ... and all the data from the video will make sense to him and he will definitely start thinking about the same video device for socket circuit. I would be very careful with those washing machines and refrigerators, as well as with dishwashers and microwaves. But even so, the energy provider will be paid less money, and that's what it's all about.

Video suggestion: I have heard you mention that calendar aging should typically kill packs before they reach their cycle life limits. But I don't think I have heard you talk specifically about LiFePo4 calendar aging. I think it would be really interesting to go in depth on that aspect of the battery technology, what the manufacturer specifications are and contrast other battery chemistries.

Well that technology is really moving right now there are two new types of batteries types coming and one have a over 50 years of service life with little to no degradation and almost no cycle limits and can drain down to under 12% and some bosting about how smaller than current batteries are. Be keeping tabs on your favorite electric car company to move on this. There are video leaking out on these for the last 3years. So then the bottle neck will again be back on panels.

Many times the tech is real, but is impractical for mass production and can only be reproduced in a lab setting. Other times it's just dishonest people trying to steal investors money. In any case, speculating about future tech is not useful to me. I need to understand the tech that is available now.

I have put down any more money yet. But if your looking for the big deal fine a small support company that supply a nich product to that industry that has invested in construction of it production plants in the last year there stocks will be down and cheap under $10 and is doubling their plant with no seen increased demand. That is the next great buy. It would be something like the emf shielding film that keeps induction current incheck. Maybe an inert gas used inside the batteries. They also will be hiring at a very competitive wage or offing set stock options for signing bounes. We don't have the capital now but in a year or two you will be handsomely compensated. Been there done that and cashed the check.

I am 61 years old and because of you and these videos I am going to build my solar system starting small and adding to it as I go! I didn’t know what was available at my low budget that I have. I am starting with two Growatt 48V SPF 3000TL LVM - 3kW 120Vac Stackable Inverter 4.5kW MPPT Charge Controller Split Phase 120V/240V capable with two or more units! I am going to build my batteries to feed them on one side and I have these Lot of 2 Valence U-Charge RT Series U1-12RT LifePo4 Battery 12V 40Ah hooked up in series to get them to the 48 volt level. I would have loved to seen this hooked up on one of your videos. I am also using a JBD Smart BMS Lifepo4 16S 48V 30A with Programmable Bluetooth Module, and I am going to attempt to put these together 16PCS 3.2V 280Ah lifepo4 battery DIY 12V 280AH Rechargeable battery for Electric car RV Solar Energy Golf Cart TAX FREE from AliExpress. Question for Will or anyone else interested: If I were to get a 5120Wh Batt with a Growatt SPF 5000 Inverter, instead of the SPF 3000, would this be a bad combination? While using the SPF 5000, I plan to be careful and ensure that I do not pull more power than 3kW (as if I were running the SPF 3000), but figured that I could get a good bang for my buck (getting the SPF 5000 instead of the SPF 3000) and later add a second 48V batt for more capacity. I believe that the Batt input of the SPF 5000 is 48V only capable, so the second batt would have to be in parallel. Is this a good approach? I love the high-voltage input of the Growatts (450V). This is very conducive to low IR losses in the cabling!

Hi Will, interesting battery, I’ve been looking for a battery like this for a while. The 24v 200ah appears however to only be capable of 100amps discharge (0.5C), this would only give you 2400watts, So to be clear, to those not familiar, you would need 2 of these 200aH in parallel to deliver around 4.5k,Watts @ 0.5C with this 5k inverter. Adding batteries will increase running time but it will also increase charging time, so if you do not enough solar you may not be able to charge the batteries back up in one day.

Careful here. Depending on battery type you choose, you can't charge a battery that's below zero. You will destroy it in minutes. Some are protected with circuits to prevent you from charging while others are not.

As a Canadian it's frustrating seeing you review all these components for solar systems because we can't get many of them here. Even though we have free trade and ship regularly across the border, both ways, a lot of American companies consider Canada International shipping which they will not do. If they do ship or sell to Canada the prices are usually close to double (landed) from what you paid. Silly really and extremely frustrating. Enjoy your reviews. 👍

I'm still doing my research but I've found Nature's Generator has several systems available, and some come with a breaker box connection to tie in to your own house. When the power goes out you flip the switch and you're feeding the battery power into your house. Pretty simple solution really. The panels are on wheels. Seems like a good solution for emergency situations. I'm still researching but I'm looking for a simple solution. No mounting on my roof. The only additional cost would be hiring an electrician to hook up the transfer box.

Im pretty sure this has AC in and a UPS setting, it will switch over to battery power. In the meantime it will only consume AC power when there is not enough sun and keep the batteries ready for outages. A hybrid off grid inverter is what you want.
