3:29 BE CAREFUL not to have proportional editing enabled! If you do, moving the group of two objects will have an interesting effect as the icing will... fly further than the donut itself!

NOTE: I couldn't get the Material colors to appear on my gray donut as shown in the video. I finally figured out that when the video starts, Andrew's Viewport mode (icon row below "Scenes" in upper right of window) was set to "Solid", and this was the same Viewport mode my file was in at the start of this tutorial. When he went to show the flashing red "Subscribe" button in the middle, Andrew first switched the Viewport mode to the next icon over, "Material Preview" without mentioning it, and then left it there when he removed the button. When I switched my Viewport mode to Material Preview, the material colors started showing.

Click on "Tool" then in the "Brush" section click on the "X" to DELETE your current malfunctioning brush. You should then see a "New" button, click on it to get a new functioning brush.

For those having problems when texture painting, such as the brush strokes painting on the back of the selected face, be sure that your normals are on the correct side, to recalculate them select the model (in this case, the base of the donut), go into edit mode (with Tab), select all vertices (with A), then select the voice "Mesh" under the workspaces bar, then from the menu that opens after clicking it, search and find the voice "Normals" (also opened with the shortcut Alt+N), from the menu that further opens after clicking the Normal voice select "Recalculate Outside" (also done with Shift+N). After doing all of this you can resume with the texture painting, if you still have the problem, try flipping the Normals (also done in the same menu that you went to recalculate the outside normals - Alt + N), another tip that I discovered while fixing my normals, is that they are on the correct side when, while painting on the image texture, a grid appears just like in the video of Andrew. Keep going brothers and sisters, for this is just a pebble in your path. P.s. Sorry for eventual grammar errors, english isn't my first language.
@jimmyjakes1823
@jimmyjakes1823 4 ай бұрын
Just to add to that, under the overlay options you can check the 'overlay orientation' box and it will tell you which way the mesh face is pointed. If it's blue that means it's facing outside, and if it's red that means it's facing inside.

solution for invisible texture paint strokes copied from blender 3.0 donut video: If anyone is having issues with no strokes being visible when attempting to paint, check under the Tex Draw properties tab on the far right. Under texture, there should be a checkerboard pattern. If a black square is there instead, delete that texture. The checkerboard should now be visible, as should your strokes when you begin to paint.

I suppose you 'r not only a professional designer, but you are also a sculpture. Overview objects, colors detailly and I like the way you lead to the reason why we have to use this and this,.. humorous and attracted. Thank you so much for your useful videos, please do not stop, my creator.

For beginners, this part is mostly the reason why guys leave learning blender cause of the complexity of nodes and all that stuff going around. Last year too I tried to learn blender, but due to personal work and reasons I couldn't make past this section due to the more complex elements in this part. I hope this year I will overcome this part and successfully make a donut in Blender.

Yeah nodes are also the hardest part for me too. What makes nodes less scary to me is thinking of the nodes as solutions to problems. Like for example if I want to rotate an object then the solution would be to find a node that can do rotation. Then keep building the nodes by finding the solution to the next problem you have. The tricky part is to learn which node does what. Ehh might be a bit confusing but this is how I think of it.

This is what taught me that my laptop was not made for this. It can make models and stuff easily enough, but as soon as i started adding textures and nodes it started chugging and going insanely slow trying to keep up. I'm not giving up but yeah i think it might be time for a new laptop

Using this as a refresher. A thought for version five of the tutorial... go with something like wood next time, because the surface of marble is too uniform and subtle to see what you're talking about, especially if watching on a small screen. It looks like the normal map did nothing so beginners will wonder why it's necessary.

If you are on mac and have multiple keyboard languages, the shortcut for toggling fullscreen may trigger the language toggle instead and never reach blender. Go to edit > preferences > keymap and type "maximise" in the tool bar and just change anyone of those to a hotkey combo of your choosing. I found that shift + option + spacebar was empty on my system so I went with that.

If your donut is moving strangely when you're trying to put it on the table, you still have snapping turned on.

You can also recover autosaves. File>Recover>Autosaves Check the times/dates the save is from, and open it. Also, if blender keeps crashing, try cleaning your computer, or closing programs. My computer is quite archaic, but it managed to get through this tutorial. Don't give up just yet, it might seem annoying or hard, but you'll see the results are worth it.

I came from C4D looking for a nice fast tutorial which lets me transfer my knowledge to blender, I started with an older series but this one speed it x2 (Thanks KZbin) is so great. Obviously, it needs a little practice to get in this layout but it is easier, thanks to the chapters, to go back and rewatch some key moves in the videos.
