Just a thought about those home made bobbins. Why not slightly melt the end so the thread doesn't make the noise that is heard on the video of the thread as it leaves the bobbin. Just a suggestion. Great idea, and love this fly. All the best, Sean

Hi Sean I thought about that I just haven't tried it yet.

Sean, Generally, the reason you wouldn't melt the end is because it could create burrs/imperfections that could cause the fine thread to break when it catches. They now make ceramic lined or all-ceramic bobbins, which are not only smoother, but which I've never heard make this noise. They are more expensive. Or, you can just deal with the noise its really not that big of a deal :)

Sean I did take your suggestion and melt the tip. It worked out great, Thanks. As for the ceramic bobbins, I was recently given one and I haven't had as many thread breaks as when using it. I have two and they both break the line. There must be a bur in the tube.Is there anything small enough to sand the inside. You being the clock maker might know.

Yes Jim, either take a piece of fine steel wool and try that, Make a noodle around your finest wire. If that doesn't work slide a sliver of emery cloth down it with the help of another piece of wire. Heavier, and crimp the end of the wire over the end of the emery cloth. If there is a burr that these won't take care of let me know and I may be able to come up with something else. I used the fine steel wool on one of mine and it worked. All the best, Sean

One question remains for me: Why? What is the goal of doing this stripping?

Striped peacock is used for bodies on both nymphs' and dry flies. Quill Gordon , Red Quill , Any Euro nymphs. Thanks for the comment.
