Thank you, I'm 45 next month and still longboarding to this day. My daily transport, even. I've been wanting to learn how to slide like the kids, thank you for sharing. I think I can get this, and it's inspiring to see somebody still skating at 60 years old! Glad to know I still got plenty of years of skating left in me, because I absolutely love it. Keep on riding my brother from another mother.

q p I’m thinking if you just keep having fun, and progress by taking your time without over stepping your skills, then I’m sure you’ll surpass your expectations of what you want to accomplish... I always roll with a saying we had when I raced motocross for over 20 years, which was your as fast as your last crash. So the goal was always to not pass the boundary your capable of, otherwise your gonna pay with recovery time, and a loss of confidence. Thanks for noticing the clip Bro!

Besides having a better grasp at set ups, I’m making huge progress with rolling switch stance and I hope to share what has been helping me. Thanks again for your words as it helps keep the fire burning for future releases... Keep on rolling good times having fun Bro... and the sky’s the limit on your progression!

Rob Good to hear about your purchase! Have fun and let the progression come naturally! Most injuries I’ve seen is from people trying to imitate others before their ready, and if you roll consistently your goals will be achieved, which I can say from my own personal journey! I Have not made videos in a while but I’ve still been rolling a lot with lots of different set ups and modifications, and look forward to sharing some more clips this summer, especially from my new environment in the mountains, including a nice ares for my mod longboard shop with a huge 3+ garage with extended space in every direction! Thanks for your comment and stay smart!

Adrian Frisby Thanks for your comment, and glad the clip helped some. When I first started rolling Longboards most the videos I found were too advanced for me, so after progressing thru the years I thought showing some basics might be more useful that trying to glorify my progress. Hahaha. Anyway so that’s what motivated me to reveal what helps me be in control of my ride! I’ve been doing a lot of testing to develop a Longboard for Pump and kicking for distance, but still stable to hit most hills. I have a friend with a drone who volunteered to capture footage and a youngster down the street is also helping me with footage off a GoPro. Thinking we’re getting close to revealing some new tutorials for instruction and how to make conversations for a super fun set up to surf pump with stability and versatility for hills. Thanks again for comment.

Glad to hear you are still longboarding! Mountain biking is something I have also been into for years. I am just a couple of years younger than you. I only recently found your channel, and have watched and enjoyed several of your LDP videos. I was very much into skateboarding in the late 70's and most of the 80's, and just last year at age 58, decided to get back into skateboarding and to also give longboarding a try! I bought a Landyachtz Evo Spectum 36 and a Rayne Demonseed, and was using them for moderate downhill runs and LDP. I was really enjoying longboarding up until 5 weeks ago, when I was doing some LDP, and hit a stone that blended in with the asphalt. I was pushing very fast, and hit the stone while balanced on my front foot, as I was bringing my back foot back onto the board. The board stopped dead, and I was catapulted a good distance before slamming into the asphalt taking the entire impact of my 190lbs. directly on my right shoulder. My shoulder is separated and fractured in 6 places with one of those fractures being a very long fracture, and I also suffered a rotator cuff tear! I had intentionally bought 75mm orangatang durians in hopes of lessening the likelihood of this happening! Have you had any problem with this over your years of LDP, and if not, then how have you avoided it? I would appreciate any advice!

Heh Bro, Sorry about you getting smashed…. I had a similar smack down at Snow Valley last year-when I landed in the dirt powder and broke my ribs. I wish I could tell you this or that, but sometimes ya gotta pay to play. Even with the best equipment, things happen. Obviously a low deck like a double drop helps, and your wheel selection seems good. Pads help, but no guarantees. I will say that putting in the time rolling is key, at a pace of progression that isn’t to far above your skills. On a personal note, prayer is my fuel and by Gods grace I’ve been able to recover… At the time it seems like a huge drag, but there’s always a silver lining to get something else accomplished. For me with my Ribs, it was the time I needed to sell my home, and leave the State of Cali. I’m rolling again, building jumps on my property, and live minutes from some of the best trails in America! So I’ll finish by saying I’ll be praying for you, and hope for a speedy recovery. Gods blessings to ya Bro!

JamEDodger Awesome to hear about you rolling again! Congratulations on restarting some more good times on wheels! Rolling keeps me loose and more importantly happy! I’ve been developing a slalom pump board capable of rolling most hills but has exceptional ability to accelerate speed with Pump (surf style/ sorta like giant slalom on a snowboard) Longboard is a drop thru set up stable but carves like a speedboat with the ability to easily pump. Deck s low enough for easy kick/ Push for distance. Been working on this for years and doing some final testing after getting more Support from Riptide Sports Bushings. Videos will be forthcoming, and do it yourself tutorials on the how to for DIY. Thanks for your comment!

Al Bie Thanks for the comment, and going to celebrate my 60th B-day in a couple months... Getting older means I get lazy bones at times, and would rather play outside the home than go travel, which helped me to develop my latest blast of a board which is totally a street surfer Longboard. I've been working on it for a few years and just recently all the dots connected for the performance I was trying to create.A drop thru Longboard which I could push for distance with a great deck height but also doubled as an awesome pump board where I could gyrate some energy into deck without lifting feet to accelerate. Board carves like a speedboat, it's stable, also fast, and I can throw out brake checks on big hills to control speed. I'm going to do some tutorials n how to build it soon and I'm also building a few for friends. Coming soon.

Appreciate the comment Bro! I like the word proficient since I've put in 1000's upon 1000's of hours to feel comfortable on a deck, even though in this clip I was a little rusty from a previous smack down at the skate park a few days earlier. Putting in the time with some fundamentals can really improve a skater's skill set. My friend has upped my Skate Park game as well, and in the coming months I hope to share what I've learned to help those interested in Park skateboarding. Thanks again for your comment. M.

Ricky Burke Thanks for your words Bro! It just takes some practice with a decent set-up and wheels that match your ability. Like some Pallisade 65mm sliders at 78a offer a good resistance and brake loose at slower speeds. If your wheel base is too short, its gonna make you not want to move around the deck and you'll stand tall rather than relaxed. I'm 5'10" so a 28-29" wheelbase on a top mount deck for me. If its a drop thru then go with 30" wheelbase (measurement between inside truck mount holes). The clip is solid for edge control on the back foot, so just practice but be sure your set-up is solid. Keep on rolling Brah and you'll get it for sure!

So coincidentally I was also skating hills wearing ASICs shoes & I just switched to some basic vans, & it's all preference I'm not One to Think you need to have specifically skate shoes. But i will say it is a much better board feel a flat shoe. but when having to jump off & run to save you ass asics do that best so I'm still experimenting. Also I inspect my hill route & Color chart my route with color chalk indicating turn point & speed changing. I really liked your video and will be watching thanks a lot

Corey Forman Right on... Thanks for your comment! I will add that a shoe with a solid sole (not stiff though) gives a good feel on the edges and makes for comfortable control. What I do hate are shoes with big gaps on the underside, since that messes with the constant feel (sometimes the inside gap of shoe tread sticks onto the edge of deck for a second. But what I needed most for myself was the gel in the heals of the shoes. Walking up all them hills with my battered heels from racing motorcycles, really like the comfort of the gel (No more heal pain). And of course you nailed it on shoe stability when those times arise that your quick stepping it off the board for whatever goes wrong.

Definitely want to keep rolling and hope to do some wheel testing this summer of varied brands. Maybe worth mentioning is that I like 78a duro since they offer some resistance for a more controllable slide, but that's just my opinion because I like to be in control of my roll sled when sliding on the streets! Cesar Aiden Thanks for congrats on the blessing of a great wife and she has my back with some new videos coming out soon. Been rolling days on end developing a longboard that pumps speed with very little slope transition, carves like a speedboat, low to the ground for easy kick when doing some distance LDP and stable for speed also able to negotiate hills. I’m in the process of finally starting clinics for youth groups and was looking to have a format that wasn’t boring in the parking lot. So it’s evolved into a longboard that rips on the road surf style. Sorta like slalom meets surfing and I can lay out a course for head to head competition with many course variations and or do time trials. Tutorials on how to convert boards and or what you need to build a street surfing Longboard are ripper!

So do you use your back foot more to turn then? I just started and have had issues with toe turns ugh
@michellandegent5957
@michellandegent5957 3 жыл бұрын
On a toe side slide you definitely push with the back foot. Start with mini brake checks as it will progress you to feel way more comfortable when you progress further to start doing some mini slides... Don’t get discouraged, just have fun practicing pushing out the back of the board.... Don’t stand to tall on your deck, be loose with knees bent/ and arms out can all help... Good luck.

I'm new to longboarding and I'm trying to figure out how to place my foot on the board so it goes straight. I tried all positions and places on the board possible but I'm still not going straight. Maybe there's something wrong with my feet or my board? lol can someone help me?
@michellandegent5957
@michellandegent5957 4 жыл бұрын
Cleonara Thomas Thinking about your question, And hearing that your a beginner, I’m thinking that your deck might have too much concave which means the edges are considerably higher than the middle of the deck going from side to side.of the board. So finding a deck with more of a top flat surface might be what you need? If the board is too short ( space between the trucks inside bolt measurement) then you might be stand too rigid with your legs straight which will also make you roll squirrelly. So get a more of a flat deck with a wheelbase of 30” to 31” and 9.50” wide is good for about an 11”” shoe size. I prefer 10” wide because I like the solid feel under my feet and have the experience to hang my feet over the edge when necessary. Another thought is that your bushings in the trucks are wrong, with them either being cranked down too much or they are too hard to offer any give. So addressing the bushings would probably be the first thing I would examine. Hope that helps some.

Nice video dude. I have to ask tho. Was that mongo pushing I saw? Also why? Jw not trying to come off like I'm shitting on you for it. I personally just see a bunch of disadvantages of doing so. Also safety issues.
@michellandegent5957
@michellandegent5957 5 жыл бұрын
Reaver Haha. First off thanks for your comment and I’m not easily offended being that I’m 60 and feel good about what I’ve accomplished with my life... from climbing mountains to racing Motocross for 20 years and even some National titles with BMX, blah, blah blah., so no worries on your comment Bro. But my kick was from the front foot on a regular stance as it gave me more clearance from the camera on the back end of the pole. And to be honest with you I have 4 kicks that I interchange when doing distance. 2 regular, and 2 goofy, and I can seamlessly combine all kicks with Skogger flow which allows you to swap regular stance with goofy/ mongo while rolling. You need to kick from both sides to race distance which I’ve done, and on whatever stance I’m rolling I can kick with either front or back foot. It also helps me when I roll skate parks, as I can change directions when going back down a transition. Anyway it’s still gonna be a while before I want to haul hills goofy foot, but the progress I’ve made is beyond what I thought I could learn, so I just keep switching it up to get better. Thanks again for noticing the clip, and I hope it had some value... like if that old dude can do it....

My board is super curved, so maybe I don't have to move the foot from edge to edge to get the same result because of the shape of my board, My board is probably 2/5 of circle how curved it is from edge to edge. Does anyone else finds this the case. Different the boards being used in this video that are flat therefore they need more pressure on the edges by moving the foot.
@michellandegent5957
@michellandegent5957 4 жыл бұрын
Free Life Yes your correct! When you say “curved” I’m thinking you are referring g to the deck’s Concave. Which is a huge factor when your beginning to carve. And if the deck is narrow like 9” your toes and heels will hang over slightly which will also help a beginner with carving a board. But after you progress with controlling your carve, it’s helpful to begin some foot movement to set up better for brake checks because your actually pushing the board out when doing brake checks to control speed. However with a deck that has some deep concave it will feel awkward until you get more experience, and that’s why a deck with less concave can be easier to learn brake checks with. In the big picture you can probably progress on your deck with consistent practice! Good luck and thanks for your comment.
@michellandegent5957
@michellandegent5957 4 жыл бұрын
Free Life When I say push the board out with brake checks, I’m referring to your foot on the decks edge to initiate the slide for a brake check, which is more focused on sliding just the rear wheels to slow your speed down to help stay in control of how fast you want to go down the hill.

Hope to make some videos soon sharing some set ups for street surfing at speed. I’ve been working on a pump set up that only requires a few kicks now and then to keep going, that carves and turns like a speedboat, also stable, with the ability to negotiate most hills. Design starts with a drop thru deck, then customized to accommodate 76mm wheels that don’t flare out from the outside edges... Anyway hope you see the clips and most everyday I start out by ripping a few runs down the street; longboarding surf style feeling the vibe without having to wait for a wave!

Nurik Arzada No worries man... I could care less what people think about my skate style, and my choice for kick was due to the location of the camera on the pole. I can actually kick/ push 4 different ways ( 2 switch/ front or back foot push and regular using either front or back foot for push. However thanks for your comment which might help others trying to fit into their skate crowd. But when you hit 60 years old and can still roll numerous sports like Motocross MX/ BMX/ Mountain Bike DH single track/ and multiple skate disciplines with an attic stuffed with awards of racing, then whatever anyone thinks about how you roll means Nothing. Have fun Bro and let the good times keep rolling...
