Goalkeeping is a really fun position that requires a lot of practice and studying. I've trained many goalkeepers from children to adults. All beginner keepers need to work on the foundations of goalkeeping.
The keeper ready position is the most important step for a novice keeper. Getting in your keeper ready position will put you in an alert position and makes reacting to a shot easy.
KEEPERS MUST LEARN TO ALWAYS DIVE FORWARD ALWAYS GO FORWARD EVERYTHING IS FORWARD. The only thing behind us is the goal! We can never willfully fall on our backs when we dive it's bad technique and will end up in a goal.
Catching is instrumental! Make sure you learn how to properly hold a ball this means practicing you W or Diamond catch daily! Bobbling a ball is not acceptable new keepers need to make sure they have "safe" hands.
Enjoy the game and practice every day! The greatest goalkeepers are the ones who practice and leave everything on the field. If you want to be great practice like a great!
Hope this helps you starter keepers and coaches dealing with young or new goalkeepers. It's never late to start goalkeeping! I started at 16 and wasn't good until I was 18.

I'm a goalkeeper, and we have lost countless times, 4 games above 10-0!. One game we lost 23-0. If we lose, I am always the go to person, and they always say, oh you suck, we keep losing because of you. But they don't get it, they don't realise how many shots the other team has taken against me! I looked at my own stats, and realised that one game we lost 12-0! but I saw how many shots they had, and the amount of shots they had was 27!! No one realises that they could've got so m more goals if it wasn't for me saving most of them, and yeah they keep saying I'm crap!! Friends who just look at the results and not see me play in real life believe I'm bad, but they don't look at how many shots they have taken. I wish people would realise how hard I try, and not to be cocky I am really good. I practice my forward dives, catching etc. and people think I don't try at all, because they only look at the result of the game, not the proper in game stats to be precise.

This is exactly me, I'm only 11 but we lose games about 11-0 or more. And yeah, they take about 200 shots! And yet my defenders aren't there, but I still get the blame.. Like if I'm coming out off my line because someone's running too me my coach goes 'GET OFF YOUR LINE' and I'm like 'IM LIKE 10 METRES AWAY FROM IT' and yet he doesn't listen.... I feel you bro

First off, where is the rest of your team? If the rest of them were doing their job, you wouldn't have to make so many saves. There are 10 other players on that team tell them to step up.

I had the same situation for my first year as a goalkeeper it was just a few times at the park and the dad of one of the people there threw me in goal and after I left I'd say practising solo or even having a second goalkeeper is the best thing to do until your comfortable in ever basic area to goalkeeping such as catching,diving ex

Great video! I am getting my 7 yr old son started on GK. He started playing at 6, but we quickly identified his strentghs and what he liked after a season. He started as an attacking mid, then moved on to defense, and on day he had to play as a GK because there was no GK. He seems to be a natural at it and has quickly become a strentgh in the team. This helps me guide him in the right direction. Thanks man.

Thanks for inspiration to goalkeeper training. Because soon I start as goalkeeper trainer, and it's perfect to get the basic foundations. I've been goalkeeper in some time and also on high level, but chosen to stop and play at the field. I've just forgot some of those basic moves like standardposition that you also have to tell new goalkeepers about it. So thanks for inspiration, maybe I'll watch more of your videos, they seem pretty good:)

Hey Alberto. My name's Aidan and I'm 16, now entering my second year of goalkeeping. Never had any technical training, so thank you for posting this video. I'm wondering if there are any more tips you can give to a beginner like me. I plan to take this as seriously as possible and try to make myself a future around soccer and goalkeeping. I'd love a reply. Thank you so much for helping me achieve my dream.

BruinsChampions2011 Maybe, practice shots are going to be much more difficult because the keeper has no defense to protect him which lets the striker have a really good easy clean strike but the mentality changes it for everyone.
@BruinsChampions2011
@BruinsChampions2011 9 жыл бұрын
True, but in a game you have chaos in the box. Some shots you can't see. Part of why on free kicks, I don't want a wall of more than 2. Because in my opinion, if it is hit well enough to score, a wall wouldn't do anything. And I would rather have a clean look at the ball instead of have an ineffective wall.
@Jweeks95
@Jweeks95 9 жыл бұрын
BruinsChampions2011 I always pick a side of the net where i feel the striker is going to aim towards and i focus on that side of the net and i have a defender cover the other side right on the corner post so if it goes there he can head it out
@BruinsChampions2011
@BruinsChampions2011 9 жыл бұрын
Josh Weeks Yeah, I always put defenders on the posts on corner kicks. I don't on free kicks, because I want to hold the offense away a little, not have them crowd in the box before the kick is taken. What I do is really based on situational and the team I am playing.

Awesome! Don't let anyone tell you any different. Goalkeepers are a different breed of soccer players and at times (especially when we're younger) we have to deal with a lot of in field players that don't understand your position. I'm glad I could help you realize your own potential and I hope you continue beating those guys in pick up games. I've seen some very big/heavy keepers make some amazing saves and have great dives, actually bigger keepers are a lot scarier than a keeper like me!

this is a great point and an amazing comment to move into my next video. Keeper mentality, as a human and as a goalkeeper we will make mistakes. Coaches look for the player that can roll with the punches and even his own mistakes best. We all will have a mistake at any time in a game what a world class keeper can do is forget the goal for the duration of the game and make sure that you don't make another mistake. I'll be uploading a video on the keeper mentality soon

I am the goalkeeper too, supposedly I can play in academy teams in my region doesn’t matter that I became a GK by myself and learnt the GK basis without the help of instructors.For that all players and friends know me as a good GK and I have no PRO or even academy goalkeeper training in my town for my age by the way...I am good but I realise that my experience is as for the beginner not the academy yet... With the already learnt GK basis I am going to improve myself and to stay the PRO in the future (16 y.o) :) Thanks for the vid! It’s gonna help me more!

Pens Suck et all...Some good points were raised in your comments as well as were presented in this video. As for the basic stance that was first demonstrated. In my humble opinion as a goalie coach this, in fact is an ideal position to be in when the ball is getting close. I refer to this as the "sit position." The premise behind this position and that the keeper (put your elbows where you want) is on his toes or balls of the feet, legs are bent and in the ready position for a upward jump, but more importantly, ready to get to the ground quickly. When I played I had many stances based upon when the play was at, so Pens makes a good point. But this "sit" position most certainly has its place and is the foundation of my training. I say, good job on the video. And Penn, lighten up brother :) Jesus loves you.
