Thanks for this video! I made this basket from your pattern as a complete beginner last year and this video has inspired me to make some more in different colours.

Lovely video and very helpful. I am bilingual British/ American, and I’ve been a crochet-beginner for YEARS. I have lots of baskets now, none very well done, and find that your instructions are clear and wonderful. My monomania with going in circles is improving along with the baskets now. I may even try something other than baskets...Thank you!

I'm a crochet beginner & it's great to see someone else using the same technique to "grab" the yarn - it's how I knit. I can't get to grips with holding & using the yarn any other way.
@cottonpodcrochet Жыл бұрын
I always tell folk in my Learn to Crochet workshops not to worry too much much about how you hold your yarn - everyone finds their way in the end. I use more traditional crochet holding techniques when I'm crocheting with finer yarn, but it changes depending on the stitch too. Happy hooking! 🙂

Great explanation! I just bout big t shirt yarn. Hopefully it will go well
@cottonpodcrochet10 ай бұрын
Brilliant! I'm glad you found it useful. Good luck with the T-shirt yarn. Be careful not to work too tightly with the T-shirt yarn, it can be tough on the hands. Be sure to pull your 2 loops up nice and high before you yarn over and take them off - this will help keep your tension loose. which is essential with the T shirt yarn.

Thanks for your video.If you want to make a bigger basket, do you just increase the bottom?
@cottonpodcrochet4 ай бұрын
@@helenbolen8194 hi Helen. Yes that’s correct, if you want to make a bigger basket you continue to work increase rounds until the base is the size you want the basket to be.
@elsadiabate21982 ай бұрын
@@cottonpodcrochet Hello, do I increase with a single crochet each round? so next round would be one double and four single? I am a complete beginner 🙂
@cottonpodcrochet2 ай бұрын
@@elsadiabate2198 hello, just to clarify all stitches are UK double crochet (US single crochet) we have to be careful using the terms single and double when we are talking about the stitches. The next round would be 2dc in the same stitch, then 1dc into each of the next 4sts. Then 2dc in the same stitch, then 1dc into each of the next 5sts and so on. So yes you increase by 1 dc in between the increases each round. Hope that makes sense 😊🧶

Is the yarn nova vita 12. I’m having real difficulty stopping my work from curling up
@cottonpodcrochet Жыл бұрын
Hi Adele, yes I'm using Nova Vita in the video. You may need to relax your tension a little bit? Another tip is to make sure that when you do your first yarn over pull through, you bring the loop up and above your work so it is level with the loop on the hook. This way you elongate the stitch so it sits neatly and isn't too tight. I hope this makes sense. Also there is a tendency for the basket to curl itself in to a bowl that is inside out. So after a couple of the side rows turn your work out so that you are you are working on the outside of the basket. Hope this helps, if not let me know and maybe I can help further in some way. Happy hooking! Sharon

Thanks, I am using a bigger hook and I was also using American terminology, it’s ok now.

Do you have any videos on joining yarn on a basket?
@cottonpodcrochet Жыл бұрын
I’m glad it’s working out now. I’m sorry I don’t have a video showing how to join yarn on a basket.
@dianadee8595 Жыл бұрын
In USA that would be a single crochet stitch not a double crochet. Just so that you know, maybe in England they called it a dc.
@cottonpodcrochet Жыл бұрын
Hi Diana, yes you are correct! Here in the UK we do use dc where you use sc, tr where you use dc and htr where you would use hdc, and so on. Mindful of this, I placed a note at the top right hand side of the screen that reminds viewers that I'm using UK terminology (about 3 minutes into the video). All my patterns and crochet kits use UK crochet terminology.
