My previous video explored how to tie a streamer or wet fly that has the ability to get down fast and stay down when swung in current. This video demonstrates the actual tying of the fly shown in that video, the Black Nose Dace Weamer.
The name "Weamer" is a portmanteau of "Wet Fly" and "Streamer" as the fly incorporates the body and hackle of a wet fly with the wing, head and eyes of a streamer. The fly can be swung like a wet fly or stripped back like a streamer.
The Weamer series of flies have been very effective patterns for me accounting for over 14 different species in both freshwater and the salt.

This has become my go-to streamer for French Alps big rivers for wild brown trout.

Peter. I would be interested in seeing your version of the grey ghost and the grey hornberg. New to tying and find your versions much easier for a beginner

I'm a big fan of the Grey Ghost, but I've shied away from doing feather wing streamer videos as they aren't really beginner's material. I have kicked around the idea of a Matuka video as a beginner's intro to feather wings - still mulling it over. Easy traditional steelhead wet flies is next on the agenda.

Peter This is a fun fly to ttie. Reminds me of tying winged wet flies. Went to Lake Erie today and got into 3 smallmouth bass while fishing for carp and sheepshead on the Blacknose dace weamer. Lost all three on the fight. Sharpened thd hook each time but same result with next fish. Due to length of ths wing are they striking short and only lightly hooked? Love to read your view.

What is probably happening is this -- the smallies often make a stun strike on a larger prey item by biting the head. They then leisurely swallow it afterward. If you're striking when you feel the hit, you're probably hooking them on the outside of the jaw, so then they get off more easily. Two ways to deal with this: tie a smaller version that they'll swallow on the first hit or drop tension when you feel a strike, wait a moment, then put in a couple of strips. They'll whack it when they think it is getting away.

In lieu of the grey/olive deer hair, which I couldn’t find, I found Hareline Craft Fur in grey/olive that seems to match the colour that was shown; not sure if this would impact the action?

Shouldn't make much difference. Craft fur lacks the taper of natural hair, so I'd go sparse with it.
