Wow, you may be a beginner but your tutorial skills are ADVANCED. I've been crocheting only for a few months and what you've done is so smart and better than what most YT tutorials do in that you offer three different notations (the video of you crocheting, the symbols and the abbreviations) but you also make note of things that easily trip up beginners like which hole to stitch into. So smart and so proud of you for dreaming this up and leveling up the crochet video tutorial game.

@abarbienamedken33343 ай бұрын
So I think what happened was you need to mark your first double crochet stitch. You're probably counting the chain 3 and it looks like a 17th stitch. If you let out one stitch you may be accidentally letting out your increase and that's how you got 14. I ALWAYS mark first and last stitch in circles and then count between the two stitch markers. That number should be the correct number of stitches. Plus it helps me find where I need to slip stitch it together. It can get kinda clunky to work around, but having to push aside some markers every once in a while beats frogging and redo it a million times over coz you lost count. Ps: (I put stitch markers on every first stitch of every row in square/row based projects and I sometimes even keep a counter app up. It slows you down a bit but so does redoing 3 rows coz you miscounted lol)

My mom taught me to crochet when I was a teenager. I made lots of granny squares for a throw then lost interest, so my mom ended up sewing them all together to finish it. I never crocheted again until about 5 years ago, and I did the same as you. I jumped headfirst into a project, never having read a pattern or anything. Lots of learning since then. I've watched tons of video tutorials, and yours was truly refreshing. You explained the process and the stitch sequence in small "chunks", and included the reason for certain stitches, like the increase. The organization of the info was perfect. The instructions were included at the top of the screen, the preview told us what was next, there was a visual showing what it was supposed to look like, and the corresponding symbols were easy to identify. Your pacing was just right, and your background music was very relaxing. You gave a lot of information, but it wasn't overwhelming at all. It's hard to believe it's your first tutorial or that you haven't been crocheting for years. You're a natural!

In the round before we have 19 stitches (included the 4 tr - see 35:19 ), so how can we have 18 (22 in total per side and 88 in total as in 42:54 ?) in the last round? I think it shoud be 23 st. per side (corners included, chain not included) so 92 in total, right? I am bad at math but... Can you tell me? Thank you again for this great tutorial.

I did not know how to read a pattern or that the stitch I was doing was a “double crochet”. You have rocked my world from the first time I ever found you. Thank you so very much for just being you and showing us all that it is okay to not look like we have it all together! And thank you for teaching me something new today. I am so excited to make a granny square blanket. Probably not a sweater but give it time. May God bless you for being the amazing person that you are!

The day this video came out I made 4 daisy squares, this tutorial is amazing! Over 6 weeks I have made a blanket with them and I adore it so much!

Simply the BEST tutorial on how to crochet the Retro Flower Power granny square (and I've been crocheting since 1971, so I know a thing or two about the look!) My first square came out misshapen on the final background rounds, thank you for cleaning up this section. So nice I barely need to block it, I'm going to make a blanket for my new granddaughter with this pattern. Thanks again, Elyse.

Watched a lot of tutorials for this square. Yours is, by far, the easiest to follow.

Hi, I've been crocheting for years, but this is a great pattern and you did a wonderful job of teaching it! I love that you showed the chart and written patters both for each step. A fun trick that I learned a long time ago for working with two colors is to feed a drinking straw onto each yarn before I start. It helps to keep the different yarns from tangling with each other.

All of it, all at once, all the time. Sign me up. I'm actually watching this because I need something to listen to while I crochet. I'm not sure I'm motivated to make a granny square yet. I'm super excited to learn to read patterns. I too jump in head first on projects. I am currently making my first piece of adult sized clothing. A flowwy tank top. Yeah that's not a word.

I've been crocheting for 15 years, but I struggle with diagrams and reading patterns. It's just too much effort. I'm so glad I found your page!

My first reaction, I LOVE how big these granny squares are, so many I find as a beginner are tiny! Much more satisfying to have a big square!

I’ve only made super basic granny squares and a very easy double crochet 8 pointed start blanket. I followed your tutorial and now I’ve made five of these!!! Thank you for taking the time to share this tutorial. It was so easy to understand :-) and it also made me feel cool 🤣❤️

I’ve tried 3 other versions of this and was about to give up when I came across your tutorial. IT WORKED PERFECTLY!! Honestly one of the best tutorials out there 🎉 Only have to make another bazillion of them to get a blanket!! 😅 ❤

What a fabulous tutorial. I’ve made a few from other tutorials and I’ve gone and changed the last few rounds on all of them as your idea to get a better square is just great. 👍👍

I really love this pattern and tutorial! I think personally im going to crochet over the boarder rounds, because i want the back to be smoother. Thank you so much for this lovely tutuorial! One of the best, well explained tutorials I've seen. You did an excellent job, and I'd love to see what other crafty projects inspire you.

So proud of you Elyse! You don’t know me but I have a daughter with ADHD and I remembered your short on how and why crochetting granny squares was good for people with ADHD from A WHILE ago with your lovely sweater you made… I am only just realizing how ADHD works and seeing the need for this type of project to busy her hands… so I went looking for patterns and this video and was delighted to find you in long form. Blessings to you and your sweet family

I’ve been crocheting for 30 years in and off and I’ve never tried a granny square. Can’t wait to follow this!

THANK YOU!! Even the simple verbal explanations of where to actually put your hook like "not into the first stich but into the second" were so helpful, I was crying tears of frustration trying to follow other tutorials that just pointed to the stitch like "that one"... and covered it with their finger. My daisies are looking so much better 🩷🩷🩷 thank you thank you thank you!

I am an intermediate crocher. This was the tutorial I needed when I started. Mikey from the Crochet Crowd (he is a flaming gay Canadian and our national treasure) taught me everything else I needed. Thank you so much for teaching the future generations. I will send this tutorial to my kids. They will love it.

I KZbin taught myself to crochet just before covid. I just have to say that this is a great tutorial! It has literally everything that a newbie or pro would need to make this square exactly as it should be!! I hope you continue making crocheting tutorials because I will keep watching them and following along! 🥰

i’m two minutes in and you just described exactly how i learned to crochet like a decade ago 😂 i would have LOVED a video like this back then, i tricked myself into learning it by just googling every new abbreviation and then finding a tutorial for how to do that stitch 😅

I'm always surprised by how many people don't read charts. I'm glad you included them! They are such an important part of how we pass patterns around the world.

Not me randomly buying stuff to learn how to crochet last week and just letting it sit there praying I'd miraculously wake up a master at it. Thank you! I'm a knitter and I'm afraid crocheting is going to confuse the heck out of me, but this is amazing. You're the Internet's BFF.

As a nerudodirgent crafting content creator, I also learn by just diving in and learning as I go. I am already a HUGE Elyse Myers fan so when you shared on TIKTOK that you did a video for your current crochet obsession, I had to come check it out and I was not disappointed! I actually watched from beginning to end and just wanted to tell you how well you did with explaining the concepts in a way that so many types of learners can understand! I've been obsessed with granny squares forever but this daisy is on my to do list. Thank you for just showing up as your authentic self!

Just want to say your instructions, with the detail, the clarity, large text, are the best I've ever seen. I'm a retired teacher, so from a teaching/learning perspective, you nailed it.
